Former Germany international Gerald Asamoah has called for a radical shift in the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) recruitment strategy, urging officials to leverage digital tools to identify diaspora talent long before they reach elite status.Speaking to 3Sports, the Ghanaian-born striker argued that the current practice of waiting until players reach the U21 level to initiate contact is fundamentally flawed and often results in losing top-tier talent to European nations.Asamoah emphasized that the modern era of scouting has moved beyond the necessity of constant physical travel.“You don't need to go out. You have Internet. You have Wyscout. You can check all the players. You can check the Ghanaians. We need to do these things.“Don't sit down and wait when they get to U21 level, and you go: ‘Do you want to play for Ghana?’ It is too late.”This call for an overhaul comes as newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz begins preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.There’s an ongoing conversation as to whether to pursue players like Hudson Odoi ahead of the tournament after they previously turned down approaches.
