The Leagues Cup returns with a new format, but is it better than before? And should the tournament be held every year? Jimmy Conrad, Charlie Davies, and Tony Meola dive into the tournament’s latest tweaks, including a heavier focus on MLS vs. Liga MX clashes. Plus, with Thomas Müller linked to Vancouver, the guys unpack MLS’ often-confusing discovery rights system and Cincinnati's dubious claim to the German star. Charlie backs a bold move for Son Heung-min to LAFC, and Inter Miami found a roster loophole to land Rodrigo De Paul. Are the Herons making a mockery of the league's rules? And Tony shares his thoughts on AC Milan's preseason with the spotlight on USMNT duo Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah. Suj and James Pod on the rebranding of UEFA's club competitions that begins next season which includes the removal of the traditional 4 team, 8 Group format. In its place will be a 36 team 'Swiss-system' league table. The promise is that the competition remains based on sporting merit and that there will be more top matches from the start of the competition. But is that really the case? There's discussion on qualification for the competition, how the tournament will work both during the League stage and then during the knockout phase, the alterations to the calendar that will affect domestic football in England, the complexities UEFA may find with the 36 team league draw and there's coverage of the changes to the Europa League and Europa Conference League too. Plus, why it's possible for England to have as many as seven representatives in the Champions League and as many as eleven qualifiers for European competitions in future seasons, and ultimately thoughts on if the new format will be successful or not. Has the FA Cup lost some of its sparkle? What are the big teams’ attitudes towards the tournament? These are a few of the questions we’re trying to answer on today’s brand new episode of Jules & Andy! After a mixed set of results from the third round this weekend, we debate how significant a place the Cup still holds in football’s television-dominated environment. We suggest some ways to help recapture the magic of past FA Cups, including moving the semi-finals away from Wembley and incentivising teams to take it more seriously, while Jules recounts some of her favourite memories of watching it as a fan. Elsewhere, we discuss some of the potential movers and shakers in this January’s transfer window, as Arsenal need some new personnel in defence and Manchester United could do with some creativity. It’s coming home again as England prepare for the inaugural UEFA Nations League campaign, and what a confusing campaign it’ll be if the format is anything to go by. Full disclosure, we’re all for it. If anything it isn’t complicated enough. We talk about England’s renewed spirit, double agents in the Bundesliga and the need for legs, while we also enjoy the musings of Robert Earnshaw and flood the show with Pompey mentions.
