(Non) Flying Dutchmen | Planet #FPL Do The Euros | Ep. 16

Suj and James review the weekend at The Euros as Denmark thrilled again, Italy overcame a scare against Austria, the Czechs upset The Netherlands and Belgium ended the hopes of reigning Champions Portugal. The defeat for The Netherlands has given Euro Fantasy managers without a wildcard a potentially massive headache for the quarter finals but it may not be all bad news as James discusses his options now he's without at least 5 players. Plus tactical insight into what may impact the Italy v Belgium quarter final and Denmark's cute and early tweak that helped them dominate Wales... ____________________________________________ Want to become a member of our FPL community? I’ll bite my own hand

Jimbo welcomes Michael Cox and Duncan Alexander into the pod after a day of illuminating action at the Euros. Czech Republic hog the headlines by eliminating the Netherlands in the first shock of the last 16. But are they still the weakest team in the competition? And can Frank De Boer be blamed for the crazy mistakes of his players? Number 1 ranked Belgium knock out holders Portugal, in a game signposted by selfishness and stroppiness. And it’s time to bust the myth that Ronaldo is good at free-kicks. It’s another big day of action. Juraj Vrdoljak tells us whether Croatia fear Spain, the team that inflicted their heaviest defeat ever. And Julien Laurens previews France v Switzerland, as Pogba looks to build on his position as perhaps the player of the tournament so far. Plus we appreciate Balotelli, Cassano and Prandelli 9 years on. Rushing to the wrong fire

Jimbo’s back and he’s brought Sasha Goryunov and Tom Williams with him as the knockout stages of Euro 2020 get underway. Denmark dismantle Wales 4-0 in Amsterdam as their fairy-tale continues to the quarter-finals. Niels Harild tells us why the Danes are daring to dream of a repeat of 1992. What will Gareth Bale do next? International football only? Golf? Italy need extra time to eliminate Austria at Wembley, with the beaten side showing just how good they are. Having seen glimpses of Belgium at their best, will we be able to see a classic with Portugal on the worst pitch at the tournament in Seville? And with no side showing themselves to be completely dominant, Michiel Jongsma fancies the Netherlands to go to the semi-finals as pessimism is replaced by arrogance. Plus England 1-2 Iceland – five years on. Something To Cro About | Planet #FPL Do The Euros | Ep. 12

Suj and James discuss the action from Monday at The Euros as Denmark thrilled with a stunning display, The Dutch made it 3 wins from 3 and wins for Austria and Belgium have left Finland and Ukraine's hopes of qualification hanging by a thread. Could a rejuvenated Denmark be a danger to opponents in the knockout stages? There's early thinking towards Euro Fantasy plans for the last 16 and a preview of tonight's game for England against the Czech Republic and both Croatia and Scotland will know victory will guarantee progression to the last 16... An Aldi own brand Pep Guardiola

Matt Davies Adams, Rory Smith, and Sasha Goryunov are here as Denmark make their mark on this tournament and squeeze into the next stage whilst Austria find their fast flowing football. Copenhagen was the place to be on Monday night as Denmark scored four magnificent goals to set up their place in the round of 16. Whilst Finland gave Belgium a run for their money before Lukaku turned the fireworks on. Plus we had one of the most memorable moments of the tournament so far - and VAR was involved in a positive way! In Group C it's Ukraine who are left wondering if they're in or out, and we waved goodbye to tournament cult hero Goran Pandev with an emotional guard of honour. Up next it's England v Czech Republic and Croatia v Scotland where it's "you finish second" "no, you finish second" at Wembley and win at all costs in Hampden. And where Covid 19 is wreaking havoc with protocols as Billy Gilmour is out and it's a bit of a confusion over Mount and Chilwell for England. All that plus there's a rather special 'On This Day' for Matt - and we find out that his dog has a middle name.... RUNNING ORDER PART 1: Drama or no drama? About to do a madness

Jimbo’s back with part 1 of our preview of Euro 2020, in the company of Michael Cox, Tom Williams and Sasha Goryunov. The Three Lions head into essentially a home tournament as favourites. Paul Ince tells us what life inside the camp was like at Euro 96. Are England and Croatia worse than we think they are? And are Scotland and Czech Republic better? Can Wales match their semi-final exploits of 5 years ago, with or without a striker? They’re in the same group as a young Turkey side who we’re very excited about watching. James Horncastle gives us the latest on Roberto Mancini’s Italy, unbeaten in 3 years and finally building the team around their best players. Kristof Terreur explains why Belgium’s golden generation are keen to play down their chances of a first major tournament victory. Plus how Michael incurred the wrath of the Finnish football fans. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1a: Looking forward to the Euros but not the mascots (02m 00s) • PART 1b: Group D – England the favourites, with Paul Ince (05m 45s) • PART 1c: Group D – Scotland, Croatia & Czech Republic (19m 00s) • PART 2a: Group A – Wales, Turkey & Switzerland (25m 00s) • PART 2b: Group A – James Horncastle on Italy’s chances (36m 00s) • PART 3a: Group B – Denmark & Finland (46m 30s) • PART 3b: Group B – Kristof Terreur on Belgium’s golden generation (52m 00s) • PART 3c: Group B – Sasha’s beloved Russia (57m 30s) • PART 4: The odds with Paddy Power (62m 00s) • PART 5: Brief thoughts on the Group of Death (64m 00s) SIGN UP TO THE ATHLETIC FOR £1 A MONTH FOR YOUR FIRST 6 MONTHS: • theathletic.com/totally GET IN TOUCH: • follow us on Instagram • find us on Facebook • send us a tweet: @TheTotallyShow PARISH NOTICES: • we’re sponsored by Paddy Power - home of the Money Back Special READ STUFF ON OUR WEBSITE: • check out thetotallyfootballshow.com. Wales bag a Belgian souvenir, Sepp Blatter's gravy train, and tantalising ham

Wales went down 3-1 to the Belgians and Romelu Lukaku (aka the pawn in The José Mourinho Conspiracy), but at least they came away with one utterly sumptuous goal. Marcus, Andy and Jim are here to welcome the return of the World Cup qualifiers with open arms! Elsewhere, Aleksandar Mitrović put his shooting boots on for the first time since the last international break, while the Czech Republic seem to be hitting a worrying peak ahead of their summer showdown with Gareth's Brave Boys. Plus, Pippo Inzaghi dusts off his Diadoras and André-Pierre Gignac is wooed with a big slab of ham. Join us! Explaining BeNeLiga & High Stakes for Horse Racing

We speak to Alex Muzio chairman of Belgian sleeping giant Royale Union Saint-Gilloise who last week sealed a return to the top flight. And this week sees the return of The Cheltenham Festival, the highlight of the British jump racing calendar, behind closed and under pressure to deliver for an industry hit by lost revenues due and negative publicity - former Jockey Club CEO Simon Bazalgette joins us. England fail to qualify, Wales keep another clean sheet, and the sad passing of Ray Clemence

That’s it, then. It’s all over: England are out of the Nations League. Dry your eyes, mate - Marcus, Andy and Jim are here to conduct the post-mortem. England's tentative performance against Belgium saw Jack Grealish impress yet again, but few else were able to stake a meaningful claim for inclusion. We also look over the rest of the weekend’s Nations League action as Scotland’s unbeaten run ended while Wales’ rolls on. Finally, we take some time to celebrate the wonderful career of former England goalkeeper, Ray Clemence, after his passing on Sunday. High quality conversational value

Belgium beat England 2-0 to end their hopes of winning the Nations League. Is the tide turning on Gareth Southgate or is he just a victim of his own success? They’re still celebrating in Scotland as Steve Clarke’s side qualify for the Euros. And elsewhere, it was a great weekend for San Marino, Malta and Goran Pandev. Plus Sergio Ramos’s penalty predicament, Casey Stoney and overrated goals. England are on top of the world, Steve Clarke smiles again, and Premier League weasels

Best in the world you call yourselves? Come and have a go! Pete and Jim calm down a giddy Marcus to discuss England’s statement win over Belgium. We then chat Jordan Henderson’s dark arts, the absence of Grazza and the virtues of Gary Southgate’s pragmatic tactics. There’s also a lot of love for Andy Considine, who made his Scotland debut at the ripe old age of 33, and the 600 Northern Ireland fans whose ironic cheers were heard loud and clear. And, of course, the boys talk about greed. We gape at the madness of PPV and examine Project Big Picture, which at least isn’t completely insane. And remember, no matter how bad it gets, you can always believe in Carlton Cole. The Blizzard: Wales 3-1 Belgium, 2016

It's time for a truly joyous episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard. Welsh comedian Elis James joins us to discuss perhaps the finest moment in Welsh football history. Wales have endured a notoriously difficult relationship with international qualifying campaigns; their fate was still up in the air with one game to go in eleven different campaigns. But, after some assured performances this time around saw them finish second behind Belgium, they advanced to Euro 2016 full of optimism. Chris Coleman's men powered through their group, then laboured past Northern Ireland – before the big one. You've seen the Hal Robson-Kanu goal. Now relive the moment through Elis' eyes as he watched on delirious in the Stade Pierre Mauroy alongside the jubilant travelling fans – some who made it there via minibus from Aberystwyth. The Blizzard: England 1-0 Belgium, 1990

On today’s episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard, historian Tom Holland joins us to discuss one of the standout moments in English football history: England 1-0 Belgium from Italia '90! With travelling England fans in near-penal exile on the island of Sardinia, Italian authorities were incredibly anxious throughout the entire tournament about the prospect of more of the hooliganism that had plagued previous England away games. After Bobby Robson’s side stuttered through their opener against Ireland, he changed to a back three – which immediately paid dividends. They escaped out of their group and then knocked out a Belgium side who probably deserved to win the game, thanks to that cracking volley from David Platt.
