Oliver vividly tells the story of a 16 year-old with such exceptional talent that he was held in the same esteem as Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes in the Manchester United youth setup in the early 1990s. Remembered as an eccentric character whose interest lay in music, books and poetry, Doherty’s burgeoning career was cut short by a horrific cruciate injury - and his life tragically ended at just 26 after an accident in Den Haag. Oliver and Luke discuss his fascinating story, wondering whether football clubs should have a responsibility to cater for different personality types, and ponder what might have been...
