We’re back for some North London heartbreak on today’s episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard. BBC Sport’s Gavin Ramjuan joins us to discuss Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in the 2006 Champions League final! After transitioning out of the Invincibles era, this Arsenal side had become incredibly solid defensively – they only conceded two goals on their route to the final, during which they dispatched Real Madrid and Juventus. They met a Barcelona side that, though it had the early shoots of their infamous Pep Guardiola side, was not up to the same standards. Sol Campbell put the Londoners up with a powerful header but, after Jens Lehmann’s red card and fatigue began to set in, a Henrik Larsson-inspired comeback saw the Catalan side win only their second Champions League trophy. We’re back to take a deep dive into the biggest stories from another hectic weekend of football. We begin with a thorough look at Frank Lampard’s Chelsea after a promising but inconsistent draw with Leicester— will we see a return to the unease that plagued much of last season? Then we take a look at some of the players who have come up from the Championship as they look to adapt to the demands of the Premier League. Teemu Pukki has taken the bull by the horns after his hat-trick against Newcastle, while Southampton’s new star Che Adams hasn’t enjoyed as successful a start. We also look at Sol Campbell’s recent exit from Macclesfield after he excelled last season despite the constraints of ‘the worst job in the football league.’ Tell us your thoughts! Pep Guardiola gets his first trophy as Man City manager, inspires another dissection of Arsenal and is accused of harbouring a fugitive all at once, while Jose Mourinho emerges victorious in a rare on-pitch ding dong with Antonio Conte, and down at The Hawthorns Alan Pardew is as bemused as the rest of us. On top of all this there’s a warlock, an earful for Tony Pulis and though there may be bad blood in the correspondence section there’s also a trip to Kevin Keegan’s Soccer Circus and a humble gift from Sol Campbell.
