So much football! Musa and Ryan begin in France, with Lille coming from two goals down to beat Lyon and return to the top of Ligue 1 after PSG’s win had pushed them ahead just 24 hours before (05:36). While the title is pretty much wrapped up in the Bundesliga, Mainz made Bayern wait a bit longer to confirm it (11:24), winning 2-1, and there’s a heap of praise for the job Bo Svensson is doing, plus chat about the Champions League spots with Dortmund closing the gap. In Spain, it’s chaos in Sevilla as they and Granada finish the game before returning to play one more minute, and Atleti are doing their best not to win the title (24:07). There’s also a very quick roundup of Serie A and the Premier League (36:45), plus chat about Man City’s fourth League Cup in a row (41:00) and the first legs of the Women’s Champions League semifinals (46:34). Suj & James discuss the current situation at Barcelona following the news that their debts are now in excess of €1billion. Is it possible that one of the biggest football clubs in the World will go bankrupt? And if so what would actually happen? Lionel Messi's extraordinary contract is discussed, what will happen with the Argentinian in the summer? Can Barcelona justify trying to keep their icon superstar? How turnover, transfer spending and expenditure on wages has got them into this financial state, could the Spanish giants be expelled from the Champions League or relegated from La Liga? Or could it be even worse than that...? ____________________________________________ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/planetfpl Web: www.planetfpl.com Twitter: @PlanetFPLPod (James) / @sujanshah (Suj) Facebook: www.facebook.com/PlanetFPL Instagram: @planetfpl You Tube: www.youtube.com/planetfpl Learn more about your ad choices. Mark Chapman and The Athletic's Matt Slater assess the current state of football's financial landscape as the effects of the pandemic start to take a greater hold on the game. We speak to Deloitte's Tim Bridge after the firm published their annual money league this week with Barcelona sitting at the top on revenues of £627 million, but in the very same week we've seen headlines in Spain suggesting Barca are on the bring of bankruptcy. So how can a club that makes so much money be in so much debt? How badly have clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool and Spurs felt the pinch as we approach a year without fans in stadiums? We're also joined by Roger Bell and John Purcell from football finance analysts Vysble to look at the bigger picture for football's uncertain financial future. What do the creeping levels of American investment in English football mean for the future of our game? Does it all just lead us back to the eternally looming prospect of a European super league?
