Back in the summer of 2020, Jimbo and co passed the time reviewing classic Premier League campaigns. For the last time this summer, we bring you the thoughts of Michael Cox, Daniel Storey and Matt Davies-Adams on the 1995/96 season, when Keegan's entertainers nearly went all the way. Newcastle were the neutrals' favourites and Man United were in transition with their kids. But a 12 point lead in January evaporated for the Magpies via Cantona, a legendary Keegan outburst and the greatest game in Premier League history. Elsewhere, English clubs were terrible in Europe, Alan Hansen was embarrassed by the Class of 92 and Man City were relegated due to a lack of technology. Produced by Charlie Jones. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1a: Blackburn stink up the joint (04.00) • PART 1b: Man City relegated (06.30) • PART 1c: Keegan's Newcastle examined (08.00) • PART 1d: Man United usher in the Class of 92 (13.00) • PART 2a: Liverpool 4-3 Newcastle (19.00) • PART 2b: Keegan and Big Ron's outbursts (22.00) • PART 2c: United's grey kit (26.00) • PART 2d: Did Newcastle bottle it? Back in the summer of 2020, Jimbo and co passed the time reviewing classic Premier League and Champions League campaigns. Here from the vault, we bring you the thoughts of Raphael Honigstein, Duncan Alexander and Alvaro Romeo on the 2001/02 Champions League season, and that Zidane goal in Glasgow. Was it that good? Perhaps the greatest goal in Champions League final history saw the Spanish overcome upstart German opposition at Hampden. Little did Real Madrid know that this would be their last Champions League title for 12 years. And little did we know that Leverkusen wouldn't be Neverkusen forever. Elsewhere, it was a maiden Champions League campaign for Celtic and Liverpool, and the dawn of a second group stage. Plus Beckham's metatarsal, Las Ketchup and the Proclaimers. Produced by Charlie Jones. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1a: Leverkusen and Real Madrid taking different paths (02.00) • PART 1b: Celtic 4-3 Juventus (06.00) • PART 1c: Two group stages (08.00) • PART 1d: Another missed opportunity for Arsenal (10.00) • PART 2a: Las Ketchup (14.00) • PART 2b: Leverkusen march past Liverpool and Man United (16.00) • PART 2c: Real Madrid beat Bayern after Kahn clanger (23.00) • PART 2c: McManaman helps Real past Barca (25.00) • PART 2d: The final at Hampden Park (27.00) Hosted on Acast. Back in the summer of 2020, Jimbo and co passed the time reviewing classic Premier League and Champions League campaigns. Here from the vault, we bring you the thoughts of James Horncastle, Raphael Honigstein and Julien Laurens on the 1994/95 Champions League season, when invincible Ajax shocked the world. In perhaps the peak of Louis van Gaal's long managerial career, this young crop of mostly homegrown talent went unbeaten in the Eredivisie and the Champions League to take home the top prize. Time to give Jari Litmanen some much overdue love. Elsewhere, it was a campaign of Weah's PSG reaching the semi-finals, Die Hard henchmen and Gary Walsh being embarrassed by Barcelona. Produced by Charlie Jones. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1a: IFK Gothenburg catch the eye (02.00) • PART 1b: Man United embarrassed by Barcelona (04.00) • PART 1c: PSG reach the semi-finals (06.00) • PART 2a: Van Gaal’s iconic Ajax team (11.00) • PART 2b: Ajax overcome Bayern in the semis (19.00) • PART 2c: Impenetrable Milan await in the final (21.00) Hosted on Acast. We're back with another Classic Combinations episode! Today, Marcus, Vish and Jim discuss the two meetings between the World Cup's greatest sides: Brazil and Germany. After they both hoovered up trophies and records throughout the 20th century, they finally met in the 2002 final, where Ronaldo's redemption wrapped up a Brazilian dream. Then, in 2014, came the horrifying nightmare - perhaps the most infamous game in football's history. This episode is brought to you in partnership with Toshiba TV. For the penultimate pod of the Euros, Jimbo is joined by a bumper crew of James Horncastle, Michael Cox, Tom Williams and Duncan Alexander. Anticipation builds ahead of the final at Wembley on Sunday. Italy the complete team, managed by Mancini the serial winner. Whereas England look to be physically fresher. Are both teams already heroes and in a no-lose situation? We reminisce about a tournament including lots of goals, classic matches and most importantly, fans. And 15 years on from Italy’s last major tournament win, a chat about Zidane’s headbutt on Materazzi, much like the incident itself, gets out of hand. The Totally Football Show brings you a six-part summer series to coincide with the release of Zonal Marking, a book written by Michael Cox. Each week, Michael and Iain Macintosh will be joined by a familiar face from the Totally Football Show, to take a look at a classic side from the last 25 years of European football. For episode 3, we're joined by special guest Julien Laurens to discuss France’s victory at Euro 2000. Where Roger Lemerre somehow managed to fill the void left by Stéphane Guivarc’h up front. And where Zizou had perhaps his greatest tournament.BUY THE BOOK HERE: https://smarturl.it/zonalmarking Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
