Totally Extra: How special were Mourinho’s Porto?

Jimbo welcomes Duncan Alexander, Michael Cox and Pedro Pinto to reminisce on Jose Mourinho's trailblazing Porto side. The panel look back on a time when this young, refreshing coach from Portugal turned Porto into world beaters, winning the UEFA Cup, 2 Primeira Liga's, 2 Portuguese cups and eventually the Champions League, with a talented side more attacking than you remember. His European success, his way with words and his iconic touchline celebration at Old Trafford were most people in the UK's introduction to Mou, in what would become a long and unforgettable career. It could have all been so different too; it was 25 years ago this month that Mourinho got that first managerial role at Benfica but they let him go and the rest is history. Produced by Jesse Howard and Charlie Jones. S4 Ep9: Aston Villa’s Glory Years, 1980-82 - Part 2

Having looked at the Villa players individually, Lee, Gary and Mike return to discuss what they achieved collectively. The hors d’oeuvre is Villa’s first league title in 71 years, achieved after a Homeric tussle through the 1980-81 season with Bobby Robson’s Ipswich and using just 14(!) players.Follow that, as they say, and oh boy, did they. Villa then won the European Cup at the first time of asking in 1981-82, despite Tony Barton taking over from Ron Saunders halfway through the campaign, and then topped it off by beating Barcelona to win a comically violent European Super Cup final. We reflect on the legacy of these achievements and ask why this team seems to be so underappreciated in English football.
