Arsenal beat Sporting in their Champions League quarter-final, but the Portuguese club's captain, Morten Hjulmand, found their goalless second leg 'a bit boring'

Real Madrid have been pegged back for the third time in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich, which means they are heading for the exit door with only minutes to go at the Allianz Arena. Alvaro Arbeloa’s side made a golden start to proceedings in Bavaria when Arda Guler […] The post WATCH: Real Madrid heading for Champions League exit as Luis Diaz and Michael Olise strike late for Bayern Munich appeared first on Football España.

Sign up now! Sign up now! Sign up now? Sign up now! While Barcelona’s night at the Metropolitano was pretty well summed up by the accompanying image of poor Fermín López shipping six studs in the mush, Lamine Yamal’s cross in the buildup should be framed and hung in the Louvre. Using a minimum of backlift, the preposterously precocious 18-year-old had arced the ball directly into the path of the midfielder with the outside of his left boot, only for López to be denied by a splendid Juan Musso save that left the already bandaged Barça midfielder drenched in claret. Had López scored, Barcelona would have gone 3-0 up on the night and ahead in the tie, having already restored parity courtesy of goals scored by Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres in a blistering and blood-drenched opening 30 minutes. Moments later, Charlton Athletic academy graduate Ademola Lookman scored the decisive goal that sent Atlético Madrid into Bigger Cup semi-finals, much to the not entirely surprising delight of their head coach Diego Simeone. “Playing in a [Bigger Cup] semi-final, how wonderful,” he honked before an appointment with Arsenal or Sporting. “We’ll go there with all our enthusiasm and faith. We know our strengths and weaknesses. We’re ready.”

The U.S. women’s national team’s current unbeaten run was ended at 10. Japan edged Emma Hayes’ squad by a 1-0 scoreline at Lumen Field in Seattle on Tuesday night, rebounding in this three-match April series. Maika Hamano’s first-half goal was all the visitors needed to hand the USWNT their first defeat since October 2025. It ... Read more

Hello Rank Squad! It's the first Champions League Takeaway of the week, looking back at Tuesday's action from the First Legs of the Round of 16 - where there were a glut of goals, some games put to bed already, a couple of shocks, and another nadir from perhaps the saddest club in world football right now in Tottenham Hotspur. We start with Spurs' visit to the Metropolitano to play Atletico Madrid, where in the first 15 minutes a catastrophic collapse plumbed new depths in what has already been a disastrous season for the Lilywhites. This time Antonin Kinsky was the man in the firing line, with the young keeper substituted just 15 minutes into his Champions League debut. Atleti hit five, and whilst Spurs managed two in reply to nominally keep them in the tie, this was another brutal night for interim manager Igor Tudor, who has now conceded 14 goals in the four games he has been in charge of - all four of them losses. Surely, this can't go on. We then head to Tyneside, where Newcastle United put in a very impressive performance against a lacklustre Barcelona, and were rewarded with Harvey Barnes' late opener to give them the lead...only to see that wiped out by a Lamine Yamal penalty in injury time after Dani Olmo was felled in the box. Scant reward for a good showing for the Toon, but Barça escaping with a draw despite being nowhere near their best at St. James' Park. In Part Two we look to Istanbul - where Galatasaray repeated their league stage scoreline against Liverpool with a 1-0 win over the Reds at Rams Park, in a game that ended up being a microcosm of Liverpool's season - fragile defensively and wasteful up top; before rounding things off with a chat about Bayern's mesmerising 6-1 win over Atalanta in Bergamo, where Michael Olise dazzled on a night where Bayern ran absolute rings around their opposition, and confirmed their status as one of the outright favourites to win this competition this season. Arsenal get back to winning ways with Eberechi Eze returning to haunt Spurs again in the North London derby. Igor Tudor’s new side now sit 4 points above the relegation zone. Liverpool leave it very, very late to win at Forest and subject Vitor Pereira to defeat in his first league match in charge. Which means West Ham’s draw with Bournemouth closes the gap between 17th and 18th to just points. There are currently no points separating 4th, 5th and 6th after Chelsea drop points again at home to Burnley. Matt Woosnam joins us to outline Oliver Glasner’s future at Palace after the toxicity between the fans and the Eagles head coach increases. Jimbo is joined by Charlie Eccleshare, Colin Millar, Tom Wiliams and Seb Stafford-Bloor to discuss an eventful evening in the Champions League play-offs. In Lisbon, Vini Jr scored a wonder goal and shortly afterwards left the pitch, alleging that Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni racially abused him. We discuss the controversial response from Benfica and Jose Mourinho. On the French Riviera, PSG mounted an impressive comeback to win 3-2 at Monaco having gone 2-0 down inside the opening 18 minutes via a Folarin Balogun brace. And it was a bad night for Italian football with Dortmund beating Atalanta 2-0 in the Signal Iduna + Galatasaray thrashing Juve 5-2 in the early kick off in Istanbul.
