Igor Tudor has gone but Tottenham are still hollow, confused and in deep trouble | Barney Ronay

Relegation battle has exposed Spurs’ institutional flaws with the stupidity of the interim hire still startling Probably Tim Sherwood put it best, speaking on Sky Sports about the through-the-looking-glass world of Tottenham Hotspur and magic bean relegation remedies. “They need an arm round the shoulder,” Sherwood said. “I’d tell Xavi Simons he’s the new Luka Modric. Obviously he’s not but I’d tell him he was. I’d tell him: ‘Save us from relegation and you can go to Real Madrid next season.’ Obviously he won’t but I’d tell him that.” Sherwood has had a good Tottenham crisis period. “The Premier League has smacked him in the mouth,” was his verdict on Igor Tudor, pre-sacking. While every proper football man will like the sound of this, of the Premier League being large and unassailable, Tudor deserves a little sympathy.

What do Tottenham Hotspur do now?

Spurs and Igor Tudor parted ways this weekend, by mutual consent, so Musa and Ryan discuss the position the club now finds itself in. With the threat of relegation now very real for Spurs, while also being set to hire their third manager of the season, they chat about what they do next and whether this is fixable in the short term. There’s also a quick round-up of some weekend results, where Union Berlin secured a place in next season’s Frauen Bundesliga, while Manchester City and Arsenal won their derbies in the WSL, the NWSL attendance record was broken on the first time of asking in Denver and more. Tottenham Hotspur are making moves — and this time, it’s not about surviving the drop. Despite being embroiled in a genuine Premier League relegation battle, Spurs have reportedly agreed a fee with Forest Green Rovers to sign 14-year-old striker sensation Darim Tchadjobo. Spurs Win Race for Teenage Sensation According to Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke, Tottenham have agreed a fee with Forest Green for the teenage sensation, with Spurs keen to win the race for his signature. That’s no small feat — the 14-year-old’s potential has alerted several clubs higher up the football pyramid, and it appears Spurs have beaten them all to the punch. Tchadjobo has garnered significant attention for his impressive performances in the youth ranks, consistently showcasing his goalscoring prowess as he rises through the ranks. Champions League Takeaway: Barça’s 7th Heaven, 50 Up for Harry and Mo, Spurs’ New Grit & Liverpoo...

Hello Rank Squad! It's the second Champions League Takeaway of the week, looking back at Wednesday's action from the Second Legs of the Round of 16 - where the final four teams booked their spots in the Quarter Finals - Barcelona, Liverpool, Bayern Munich & Atletico Madrid. We start at the refurbished Camp Nou, where Barcelona survived a first half basketball game with Newcastle United, and then absolutely flattened the Magpies in the second, playing some scintillating football that showcased just how breathtaking their attack can be in full flight. It was also an interesting night in North London, where Spurs actually won their first game under Igor Tudor, only for it not to be enough to qualify for the next round, given the collapse in the first half of the first leg. We take a look at whether this actually might be the best-case scenario for Tottenham Hotspur, with morale and momentum maintained, whilst taking Europe out of the equation in order to focus minds on the absolute necessity of survival in the Premier League. It was a strange performance from the visitors too - caught a little bit between killing the tie and defending their lead, but whilst they looked disjointed after 9 changes from the weekend, they did more than enough. In Part Two we discuss two individual record breaking legends. First off, we head to Anfield, where Mo Salah hit a pearler for his 50th Champions League goal; as Liverpool stepped on Galatasaray's neck, smashing the Istanbul side 4-0 in front of a completely partizan crowd to both revive the mood of the season, and give manager Arne Slot a stay of execution after serious pressure in recent weeks. Then, it's over to Munich, where Harry Kane matched Salah's achievement with a brace; as Bayern finished the job against Atalanta in what felt like a formality. Both missed penalties tonight. Both are amongst the best of a generation. Two icons of the modern era, reaching their milestones on a special night. It's Ranks! And remember, if you’d like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon? UCL Debrief: Liverpool through, Spurs & Newcastle out

On another goal-filled Champions League night, the quarter-finalists were set with Liverpool joining Arsenal in the final eight as England’s representatives. Newcastle suffered a 7-2 thrashing in Barcelona, while Tottenham Hotspur battled to a first win over Igor Tudor, but it wasn’t enough to get past Atletico Madrid on aggregate. So, has Arne Slot settled on a successful shape and system at Liverpool? Or was this just a bad Galatasaray side? Can Igor Tudor’s Spurs replicate this kind of performance when the pressure is back on in the Premier League? Did Eddie Howe’s brave tactics lead to a humiliating scoreline for Newcastle, or is there a wider problem with English teams playing in Europe? Former players Paul Robinson, Andros Townsend, Stephen Warnock, Andy Reid and Chris Sutton join Mark Chapman, Ian Dennis, Chris Coles and John Murray for all the reaction to the Champions League round of 16, and you’ll hear from Liverpool boss Arne Slot. Timecodes: 01:00 Has Arne Slot landed upon the right strategy at Liverpool? 08:35 Reaction from Liverpool boss Arne Slot 09:15 Did Spurs find positives in a first win for Igor Tudor? 15:12 Bigger picture — English teams conceding 22:00 Is Barcelona 8-3 Newcastle a false scoreline? 25:48 Looking ahead to the quarter-finals 27:25 Harry Kane reaches 50 Champions League goals — how long can he go on?
