By: Ben Dixon Yesterday at Milanello, Giorgio Furlani had lunch with Massimiliano Allegri to discuss the future of AC Milan and plan it together. It is clear that Milan does not want to lose Allegri. In the midst of the ongoing rumours linking him to the vacant Italian national team position, Furlani has looked to strengthen the club’s […] The post GdS: ‘The new Milan’ – Furlani and Allegri mastermind Rossoneri’s next steps over lunch appeared first on SempreMilan.

Non league club Ramsgate receives huge backlash on social media for ‘the most bizarre sacking statements ever’. Lee Martin guided them to 10th in the Isthmian League Premier Division side, but his time has come to an end despite achieved his remit of avoiding relegation and also cited his underspending of their budget. Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali has admitted the club didn’t want to sack Enzo Maresca mid-season and that the decision had a negative impact. The Blues dismissed the Italian tactician at the turn of the year, but the fallout continues to define a campaign that is rapidly unravelling. Speaking at a sports business conference in Los […]

Sid Lowe is our Spanish football correspondent and has been covering an increasingly busy beat for years. He answered your questions on everything from the Champions League to La Liga … and lookalikes trollercoaster asks: Why have so many Spanish clubs competing in the Champions League or European Cup been relegated? It happened with Real Betis and with Villarreal. We have seen leading Spanish clubs fall to the second division and even to lower leagues, see Deportivo. Sid: There are lots of elements at play here, and they are not all the same going back over time, as the structure of Spanish football has changed (collective TV deal, etc), while some clubs had their own specific issues (Depor’s success, built on money they didn’t really have, was what brought their fall, for example). The short-term reason for some teams – look at Athletic this season, for example – is that they don’t always have the resources for both competitions. There’s definitely a financial component to it. Villarreal’s relegation in 2012 was baffling but internally they had overspent – which is unlike them, a stable and financially strong club – although they did learn from that. Look at the second division now and it is full of massive clubs (historically). Zaragoza are the really clear example … Sporting, Málaga, Depor, similar with Oviedo until last summer. Often laden with debt, often unready for the sudden fall off of income, etc … I don’t know … I’m not sure that I feel that the people I bigged up (early) have started suffering better fates … have they? It might not have been that bad before. Or maybe it was, ha. There’s a related issue here, actually, which is part of the daily battle … most pieces are on-demand, so to speak, (the desk asks about an issue or I suggest an issue or whatever), but on Mondays, the regular column linked to the weekend games, I more or less write what I want (over a 38-week season there might be three or four weeks when the desk suggests/wants a certain topic and I’m not totally mad: if it’s clásico weekend then very likely that will be the focus). Which is why you get Leganés or Levante.

By: Oliver Fisher In the past few months, less has been seen and heard from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. A report has claimed it is a deliberate step back. FOR us Bournemouth fans, waving superstars goodbye has become an all too familiar feeling. It never gets any easier. In quick succession, AFCB have flogged Dean Huijsen, Illia Zabarnyi, Milos Kerkez, and Antoine Semenyo in mega-bucks deals with football’s world elite. But the loss of kingmaker Andoni Iraola is more devastating than those four combined....

By: Oliver Fisher Antonio Vitiello has asked the AC Milan ownership whether they have the aim of winning, having not been in a Scudetto race for years. By: Ben Dixon This afternoon, a report has given a rather scathing look at AC Milan under the RedBird management, questioning how much longer it can continue. It is no secret that RedBird have not been winning popularity contests around Milan in recent years. In fact, protests against the ownership quietened through the good times this season. However, […] The post MN: Milan ‘held hostage’ by RedBird as questions arise about the longevity of the project appeared first on SempreMilan.

THE FALL OF NAPOLI: It seems like only yesterday that the streets of Naples were ringing out with song and fireworks following the club's first Scudetto in 33 years. Less than a year later, the team sits 7th in the table and is going on their fourth manager in the last 12 months. Rog and New York Times Chief Soccer Correspondent Rory Smith break down how exactly the team fell so fast, what bombastic owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has to do with it, and what the Neapolitans can do to try to save their season. Then, Rog and Rory skip to FC Porto, where drama surrounding an upcoming team presidential election is engulfing the club. This is a story ripped from a soap opera: arrests, fan violence, political infighting, and the return of a departed club legend. We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents, and for this episode across three countries - Scotland, Spain, and Canada!Things are looking bleak down Bayview way. East Fife are languishing down the bottom of Scottish League 2, they're out of all the cups, the players look clueless and out of ideas at times in matches, a growing section of supporters want manager Greig McDonald out, and the Board are being questioned by the fanbase about how the club is being run in all aspects off the pitch. Was the weekend win over Clyde going to be a false dawn that just papered over the cracks or that much awaited turning point to the season? A midweek loss at Bonnyrigg Rose maybe gave us that answer. Things are dire, enthusiasm is waning, and there are major concerns about the direction the club is heading. Things need to change and they need to change fast.Is a new manager the answer? New players, new tactics, new blood in the boardroom? Is the attempted fan over by the East Fife Supporters Society going to help or hamper any turnaround? Where is the development pathway for our young talent to come through?Michael, Doug, Gordon, and Aaron are back to chat about all of that and more in the latest episode, and there's a LOT to talk about and get off our chests.
On Friday The Premier League's independent commission ruled that Everton would face an immediate 10 point deduction due to a breach of the League's Profit and Sustainability Report. There's discussion on how the verdict was reached, Everton's mitigation reasons for their losses, the impact on previous seasons, the current season and what this may mean for Manchester City (and possibly Chelsea) in coming years. The conversation about announcers and what MLS teams are required to produce for the League Pass "verticals" might seem trivial.
