Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp knows three of his first signings at Real Madrid as one player could make way, according to reports.

According to reports, Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp wants Manchester City star Rodri to be his ‘first signing’ as Real Madrid boss.

Fernandinho was a City captain far earlier than when the armband was eventually given to him. His was a selflessness, a dedication to the cause and an insistence others around him would flourish.

It may sound counterintuitive, but Mikel Arteta might, before what is arguably the biggest Arsenal match in 20 years, need to adopt some things from a team that just lost 4-0 to our opponents. Manchester City can brush off Rodri’s comments but Chelsea’s existential angst helps explain suspension of midfielder Enzo Fernández and Rodri would quite like to move to Madrid; many people would. They both said as much in the international break, those special parts of the season when players join up with their national teams and give interviews while apparently unaware that media are global these days: a whisper on Luzo TV can soon become a hurricane in London. But Rodri will line up for Manchester City at Chelsea on Sunday, while Fernández will not, suspended by the club for “crossing a line”. It’s worth, perhaps, looking at exactly what was said. Fernández expressed disappointment at Enzo Maresca’s departure on New Year’s Day. “It … hurt a lot,” he told Luzo, “because we had a lot of identity, he gave us order, but it’s the way that football is, sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. But we always had a clear identity when it came to training, playing and obviously his departure hurt us especially in the middle of the season – it cuts everything short.” Sadness that a manager has gone surely isn’t a crime; it could even be supportive of Liam Rosenior and the difficulty of taking over a club mid-season.

Man City are stepping up their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon captain Morten Hjulmand, according to reports in Portugal. Rodri’s contract expires at the end of next season and he has been linked with Real Madrid

JACK GAUGHAN: Rodri had claimed on international duty that Real would be tough to turn down and insisted that his previous allegiance with city rivals Atletico would prove no barrier.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says unhappy players can leave the club, but he hopes midfielder Rodri will stay.

Manchester City midfielder can leave if ‘not happy’ ‘My wish is that Rodri could stay as long as possible’ Pep Guardiola will not stand in Rodri’s way if the midfielder wishes to leave Manchester City for Real Madrid, though the manager believes he will stay at the club beyond this summer. The Carabao Cup trophy is back at the Etihad, its rightful home, and David Mooney is joined by City fan KC and, from Sporting News, Dom Farrell to discuss the final against Arsenal. City have now won the League Cup under the Carabao banner more than any other team combined and Pep Guardiola has become the first manager ever to win the trophy on five different occasions. With the international break to come, there's plenty of room in today's show to discuss the key performances from the victory at Wembley, which means giving due praise to the likes of Matheus Nunes, Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo... and not forgetting the Mancunian City fan from the academy who scored both goals, Nico O'Reilly. Plus, there was also an interesting tactical approach from Guardiola to starve Arsenal of opportunities to get out of their own defensive third. The Athletic's Jon Mackenzie joins the show to break that down and look at how City strangled their opposition to get on top of the game. On top of that, there's been more chatter around Guardiola's future... but, perhaps more of an immediate concern are the quotes from Rodri about the next steps in his career. Could that be away from the Etihad and back in Madrid? Also, who would be the best City player in the circus? ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Mark Ogden, Jason Burt and debutant Charlie Eccleshare to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We begin with crisis-hit Liverpool. Their defeat to Forest at Anfield marked a sixth loss in seven matches, but is it too harsh for Mark to suggest that Arne Slot’s side is on track to become the worst defending champions in Premier League history? Attention then shifts to the Ashes, where we’re joined by Martin Samuel, reporting on an extraordinary opening two days in Perth. Following a chaotic and crushing defeat for England in the first Test — driven by a blistering century from Travis Head — Martin raises serious questions about England’s preparation and their batting order. We then turn to Manchester City, who suffered a 2–1 defeat at Newcastle, undone by a Harvey Barnes double. With a fourth league loss already this season, is Pep Guardiola’s side showing signs of vulnerability? And to what extent has Rodri’s absence contributed to their struggles? Next, we turn to F1 news, and the Las Vegas Grand Prix, where both McLaren cars were disqualified, costing Lando Norris his second-place finish and the 18 points that came with it. With only two events remaining, how will this reshape the picture? We then turn to Chelsea, who moved into second place with a 2–0 win at Burnley’s Turf Moor. Mark is surprised to see them so high in the table — but is he right to argue that they still don’t look like genuine title contenders? Finally, Adam Collins returns — in good spirits — to analyse England’s predictability in the Ashes first Test and their total collapse in the second innings. Will the challenge only intensify in ten days’ time as we head to Brisbane for a pink-ball Test? Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. 🚨 Blue Moon Botcast – Transfer Special! 🚨 Pep Guardiola has dropped a bombshell – reports from Spain claim he’s personally asked the Manchester City board to sign PSG’s Joao Neves as the long-term heir to Rodri. City are even preparing a massive £105m offer for the 20-year-old Portuguese wonderkid. But here’s the twist: Rodri is finally getting back to his brilliant best after his ACL injury. Against Napoli in the Champions League, he completely ran the show with 109 touches, 92% pass completion, 6 duels won, 3 key passes, and 6 defensive actions. He looked like the Rodri we all know and love. 💙 So the big question is: should City really go all in for Neves — who’s already being called “special” and “destined for the very top” — or should we stick with Rodri as our midfield king? In this episode of the Blue Moon Botcast, we dive into: ⚽ Rodri’s brilliant performance vs Napoli ⚽ Why Pep is already planning for a successor ⚽ The HUGE £105m bid for Joao Neves ⚽ How Neves stacks up statistically against Rodri ⚽ Whether PSG would even let him go 👉 Comment below, Blues: Would you want Joao Neves at City, or is Rodri still untouchable? We’ll chat about: ⚽ City’s sluggish start – Spurs and Brighton causing us headaches. ⚽ Injuries piling up again (seriously, are we cursed?!). ⚽ Pep’s “still pre-season” excuse – fair point or just cover-up? ⚽ Why Rodri looked knackered, Foden’s in-and-out role, and new signings still finding their feet. ⚽ Whether £175m in transfers has really fixed anything at all. There’s banter, there’s frustration, and of course, there’s hope (because we’re City fans—we can’t help ourselves). Is it déjà vu all over again, or will Pep and the lads turn it around once the squad’s fit? 👉 Hit play and join the conversation, Blues! Jonny Pringle joins James for the opening Podcast on Day 4 of Correspondent Week to discuss all things Manchester City, including whether we should consider them as capable of getting back to their best. Erling Haaland is of course discussed, will Jonny start with him and take on Liverpool's Mo Salah? There's several head to heads within the City squad discussed including Eayan Ait-Nouri v Josko Gvardiol and Phil Foden v Omar Marmoush. The case is also made for consideration to the likes of Matheus Nunes, Tijani Reijnders and a hopefully, fully fit Rodri. But the opening fixtures aren't (in Jonny's words) a slam dunk, and unlikely many previous seasons, the squad has too many bodies. Meaning rotation is likely to be as big a headache as ever.
