Can Barca stage a remontada and will Bayern finish off Real?

Jimbo is once again alongside Seb Stafford-Bloor, Pol Ballus, James Horncastle and Tom Williams to discuss all things European football. Barcelona beat local rivals Espanyol 4-1 to go nine points clear at the top of La Liga after Real Madrid stumble to a 1-1 draw with Girona. How might all this affect this week’s Champions League Quarter Final second legs? There’s no game to impact PSG, as they’re given the weekend off in France to focus on beating Liverpool. No such let-off for Monaco, who are hammered 4-1 by PSG’s neighbours Paris FC. In Germany, Bayern set a single-season scoring record with an emphatic 5-0 win at St Pauli, and Union Berlin's Marie-Louise Eta becomes the first woman to manage a Bundesliga side. And in Italy, it’s goals galore between Como and Inter, with the league leaders winning 4-3 to stretch their lead over second placed Napoli to nine points. Plus, there’s a public clash between Claudio Ranieri and Gian Piero Gasperini. Produced by Charlie Jones and Xavi Bird. RUNNING ORDER: PART 1: Moments of the week (2:45) PART 2: La Liga review – Barca go nine clear (14:45) PART 3: Ligue 1 review – Will PSG be too good for Liverpool? How disastrous could it be for the Los Blancos boss if they were to be beaten by Pep’s City on Wednesday night? In Italy, it was an unhappy return to Naples for Luciano Spalletti as his Juve side were beaten 2-1 by Napoli. Elsewhere, Inter put four past a Como side which had been unbeaten in 11 Serie A games. Next up for Cristian Chivu’s side? Liverpool in an even deeper Mo Salah induced crisis. Bellingham shines in dramatic Clasico as Juve show Tudor the door

Jimbo’s got James Horncastle with him in the studio and Seb Stafford-Bloor, Pol Ballús and Julien Laurens in far flung corners of Germany and Spain for your weekly round up of European footballing fun. There’s only one place to start - and that’s with events at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday afternoon as Real put an end to Barca’s recent Clásico dominance in typically tempestuous and dramatic fashion. Over in Italy, it was eight games without a win too many for Igor Tudor - dismissed by Juventus after their 1-0 defeat at Lazio. Meanwhile, Napoli went back top but lost KDB in bizarre circumstances - and back-flipping Jamie Vardy opened his Cremonese account! In a shock twist of fate Harry Kane *didn’t* score for Bayern Munich this weekend, but it didn’t matter as they made it 13 wins from 13 games in all competitions in their 3-0 victory at Gladbach. Closest challengers Leipzig continued their sensational form as they put six past Augsburg. And in Ligue 1, PSG are back on top thanks to their 3-0 win at Brest - taking full advantage of the defeat handed out to Marseille by high-flying Lens who are now up to second in the table! All that plus - cancelled holidays in Miami, unsightly gestures and plenty of ill-tempered confrontations. Produced by Lucy Oliva. Leverkusen call time on ten Hag as Vardy arrives in Serie A

Jimbo’s got James Horncastle, Seb Stafford-Bloor, Pol Ballús and Julien Laurens alongside him for a whole lot of European football chit-chat after an eventful transfer deadline day. We begin over in Italy, where Jamie Vardy’s now having a party in Cremona after his late move to newly-promoted Cremonense. Speaking of strikers - will the arrival of Rasmus Hojlund cement Napoli’s status as favourites for the Serie A title? Next stop - Ligue 1 - where it was goals galore on Saturday, as Lille put seven past Lorient in an extraordinary second half showing and Toulouse v PSG finished 3-6 with a Joao Neves masterclass… where he scored a hat-trick featuring two overhead kicks! Over in the Bundesliga, Erik ten Hag’s short and fraught spell as Bayer Leverkusen manager was brought to a swift end following their collapse against 10 men in Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Bremen. So where did it all go so wrong? And where do they turn next? And in La Liga, Barcelona felt the benefit of VAR going awry - but they could only draw with Rayo Vallecano as Real Madrid took advantage as they continued their perfect start to the campaign under Xavi Alonso. All that - plus the curse of being a former Manchester United manager, unsavoury scenes at the Leagues Cup final in Seattle - and the Sound of Music! Produced by Lucy Oliva. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: A deep dive into Salzburg - and some moments of the week! (00.45) • PART 2: Serie A review: Vardy's latest party and are we sleeping on Juve? Serie A title race goes to the final day as Ajax suffer extraordinary collapse

Jimbo’s got the whole gang together as Julien Laurens, James Horncastle, Seb Stafford-Bloor and Pol Ballús indulge in some European chit-chat as the season reaches its climax. The Serie A chaos continued with the title set to be decided on Friday night… unless a play-off is required! That’s after Inter were held 2-2 by Lazio while Napoli were goalless at Parma, but it’s Antonio Conte’s side who still sit a point clear at the top of the table. The Eredivisie set a high bar for mayhem as PSV retained their title on the final day - despite trailing Ajax by 9 points with just 5 games to go! Michiel Jongsma’s back to tell us how - and why Ajax’s next boss should probably be bald… Over in Ligue 1, Alexandre Lacazette signed off in style with goals 200 and 201 for his hometown club Lyon - while there was extraordinary late drama in Strasbourg as Abdoulaye Touré’s 99th minute panenka kept Le Havre in the top flight. Barcelona were still on the beers as they were beaten 3-2 by Villarreal, but it didn’t matter after more Lamine Yamal magic had sealed the La Liga title against Espanyol in midweek. Meanwhile, the rebuild’s already started at Real Madrid with Dean Huijsen signed and the announcement of new manager Xavi Alonso seemingly imminent… And in the Bundesliga, Dortmund completed their remarkable turnaround under Niko Kovac to seal a Champions League spot - while champions Bayern Munich finished the season 13 points clear of Leverkusen as Harry Kane made it back-to-back Golden Boots. Plus - what’s the mood across Europe as the Premier League’s 16th and 17th-placed banter clubs do battle in Bilbao in Wednesday night’s Europa League final? Produced by Lucy Oliva. Ohhh, Villa! Marcus, Luke, Jim and Vish recap one of the craziest European games you’ll ever see, as Unai Emery almost Europa League’d his way past PSG and into the Champions League semi-finals. But, the biggest shock of the night? Barcelona’s shorts. No wonder they lost comprehensively at Dortmund (still went through, tho). Elsewhere, FIFA’s latest Ponzi scheme crumbles at the slightest inspection and we check on Jim ahead of one of the biggest games in Arsenal’s history. We’re going on tour! Can Real overcome a 3-0 deficit and produce another special European night at the Bernabéu to stun Arsenal? Will Raphinha continue his extraordinary goalscoring form? Is there any way back for Aston Villa against the French champions? And can the meanest defense in Europe stop Thomas Müller signing off in style? In GERMANY?!

Marcus, Luke, Jim and Pete catch their breath after a chaotic night of European football which saw Bayern get past a spirited Celtic without even using Eric Dier or Vincent Kompany’s studded cowboy boots. We also recap head loss deluxe across the rest of Europe, with awful diving and embarrassing tantrums aplenty. Elsewhere, a Liverpool fan opens the scoring at Everton’s new home - classic Everton - and we join Neymar’s campaign to ban artificial pitches. Plus, in disgraceful news, the FA has agreed to let Thomas Tuchel work from home. IN GERMANY. The game has definitively gone. We’re going on tour! PSG v Man City tops the UCL bill, plus is ten Hag the answer to Dortmund's problems?

Jimbo’s got his European gang alongside him as James Horncastle, Seb Stafford-Bloor and Julien Laurens look back on the latest action across the continent - and look ahead to matchday seven in the Champions League. We begin with a look ahead to some of those key UCL ties, including Wednesday night’s heavyweight 25th v 22nd battle between PSG and Manchester City. Plus, Liverpool look to make it seven wins from seven when they host high-flying Lille and Villa make the trip to Monaco. There was late drama in Serie A as Romelu Lukaku scored the winner in a 3-2 victory in Bergamo to further derail Atalanta’s hopes of a first Scudetto. It means Antonio Conte’s side are three points clear at the top of the table, but have played a game more than chasers Inter Milan who picked up their own 3-1 win over Empoli to keep up the pressure. Over in La Liga, promoted Leganes pulled off yet another shock as they ended Atlético Madrid’s club-record 15-game winning run. It’s a result that handed the advantage over to Real - with Mbappé and co fighting back from conceding after just 28 seconds to beat Las Palmas 4-1. In Germany, Bayern Munich’s lead at the top stays at four points after forgotten man Leon Goretzka bagged a brace in their 3-2 win over Wolfsburg. Chasers Leverkusen made it 11 wins in a row, with lateness no problem this week for Florian Wirtz who got an assist and brace of his own in their victory over Monchengladbach - an 11th win in a row in all competitions for the reigning champions. Plus, could a certain former Manchester United manager be parachuted in to save Dortmund as their season continues to implode? And in France, you guessed it… PSG’s unbeaten run continues - this time coming from behind to beat Lens 2-1 and extend their lead at the top of the table to nine points. That’s after closest challengers Marseille were held to a 1-1 draw by Strasbourg. Produced by Lucy Oliva. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Moments of the weekend (00.45) • PART 2: Champions League previews (12.30) • PART 3: Serie A review - Napoli beat Atalanta to strengthen title hopes (23.25) • PART 4: La Liga review - Atleti’s 15-match winning run over as Real go top (36.25) • PART 5: Bundesliga review - Big trouble for Dortmund as Leverkusen keep winning (41.10) • PART 6: Ligue 1 review - PSG’s lead stretched to nine points (51.25) Hosted on Acast. Inter hit Lazio for six as Barca lose again in La Liga

Jimbo’s joined by his continental crew - James Horncastle, Julien Laurens, Pol Ballús and Seb Stafford-Bloor - to look back on the latest week of action from across Europe. Atletico Madrid took advantage of their faltering rivals Barcelona and Real with a 1-0 win over Getafe to move level on points with Hansi Flick’s side at the top of the table - and with a game in hand. That’s after Barca’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Leganes, while Carlo Ancelotti’s men were held 3-3 by Rayo Vallecano. It’s just as exciting over in Italy, with Atalanta flying high after their historic 10th consecutive league win. Napoli got back to winning ways to sit two points behind, while Inter also kept up the pressure with a statement 6-0 win over Lazio on Monday night. In the Bundesliga Bayern tasted defeat for the first time courtesy of a lacklustre 2-1 loss at bogey side Mainz, meaning Leverkusen closed the gap to four points courtesy of a 2-0 win at Augsburg. Plus, are Leipzig in the process of getting their season back on track? And in Ligue 1, PSG remain unbeaten and sit seven points ahead of the rest of the pack after their 3-1 win over Lyon. Elsewhere Lille extended their unbeaten run to 16 games in all competitions courtesy of a late 1-1 draw with Marseille, their longest unbeaten run for 51 years. Produced by Lucy Oliva. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Moments of the weekend (00.45) • PART 2: Serie A review - Six of the best from Inter while Atalanta make history (06.45) • PART 3: La Liga review - Barca lose again as Atleti close the gap (23.15) • PART 4: Ligue 1 review - PSG still unbeaten and seven points clear (34.15) • PART 5: Bundesliga review - Bayern taste defeat for the first time as Leverkusen slash their lead (47.55) Hosted on Acast. Defining week for PSG & Real in Europe while Atleti are on the charge

Jimbo’s joined by Julien Laurens, Pol Ballús, Seb Stafford Bloor and James Horncastle for a deep-dive into matchday six of the Champions League - plus a look back at all the weekend’s domestic action from around Europe. PSG are on their worst run of the season - three games without a win in all competitions and just one goal scored. They gear up for a crucial Champions League meeting with Salzburg, while in Ligue 1 Marseille and Monaco closed the gap at the top to five points. Serie A has a new leader - with Atalanta taking advantage of Napoli’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Lazio to move two points clear at the summit courtesy of their own 2-1 win over Milan. So, could Gasperini’s men get the better of Real Madrid in their European showdown on Tuesday night in Bergamo? In the Bundesliga Dortmund warmed up for their midweek meeting with Barcelona by drawing 1-1 with Gladbach, while Bayern Munich’s lead at the top of the table stands at six points following their 4-2 win over Heidenheim. And in La Liga Barcelona’s slump in form continued with a 2-2 draw at Betis - meaning Real and Atleti are breathing down their necks, both with games in hand over Hansi Flick’s men. It was Diego Simeone’s side who picked up the most dramatic result of the weekend, coming back from 3-1 down with an hour played to win 4-3 against Sevilla. Produced by Lucy Oliva. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Moment of the weekend and Champions League previews - (00.45) • PART 2: Ligue 1 review - Goal-shy PSG flatter to deceive - (13.00) • PART 3: Serie A review - Atalanta take top spot as Lazio get the better of Napoli (twice) - (23.25) • PART 4: Bundesliga review - Marco Rose spared as Bayern go six points clear - (37.55) • PART 5: La Liga review - Atleti win nine in a row as Barca slip up again - (50.00) Hosted on Acast. Men in Blazers 04/09/24: European Nights with Rory Smith

THE GAME THAT CHANGED THE WORLD. Like Seal or Beyonce, it needs only one name: "La Remontada" or "The Comeback" in English. Ahead of Barcelona's clash with PSG in this week's Champions League slate, Rog and New York Times chief soccer correspondent Rory Smith revisit that glorious night in the spring of 2017 when Barca fought back from down 4-0 on aggregate in their Champions League Round of 16 matchup against PSG, going on to score six (yes, six!) goals in the second leg, including three from the 87th minute beyond. Rog and Rory breakdown how that game would forever alter the landscape of world football, prompting PSG to sign Neymar for unthinkable amounts of money, sending Barcelona into a financial tailspin, and wreaking havoc on the global transfer market. Then, Rog and Rory head to Athens to deep dive on Greece's domestic powerhouse Olypmiacos, including their hot headed, shipping magnate, songwriting, potentially match-fixing, multi-hyphenate owner Evangelos Marinakis (who just so happens to also own Nottingham Forest). Plus, Rory gives him recommendation on where to find (and, more importantly, how to pronounce) the best gyros in Athens. All this and more on the latest European Nights....
