Matt Davies-Adams is in the hot seat in the company of Carl Anka and Daniel Storey after a dazzling Day 3 at Euro 2020. England exercise real control and relaxation in their opening game as they defeat Croatia at Wembley. A great day for Phillips and Mings as Southgate’s team selection is completely vindicated. Dan Bardell welcomes Florence Lloyd-Hughes and David Preece to the show for reaction to England's last warm-up fixture before the belated 2020 European Championships. It was another 1-0 win and it had plenty more in common with the Austria game as Gareth Southgate selected a side featuring mostly fringe squad players, some who won't make the final 26, but at least one who will. James Ward-Prowse will hope to take the spot vacated by Trent Alexander Arnold but Ben White could be a dark horse with Harry Maguire's fitness still a doubt. Jack Grealish has started the last two friendlies, providing dynamism and a cutting edge, and he is fancied by some to make the starting XI against Croatia. Sam Johnstone almost certainly won't feature, but he will be a reassuringly solid third choice between the sticks. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

England began their first of eight consecutive victories last night, with all the electrifying dynamism you'd expect from a pre-tournament friendly half-full of squad players. Marcus, Pete and Jim are here to dial up that Euros fever a bit further. Jules, Andy and Jim are down at the Wembley docks, waving off Gareth and his brave barge of 33 England warriors. We wonder who's a certainty for the starting XI and whose injuries or inexperience might drag them off the barge and into the chilly waters below. We also look back on Sergio Agüero's unbelievable legacy and what he'll mean to Premier League fans in years to come, while Jules insists that Spain's Euros squad proves that Brighton are indeed superior to Real Madrid. Host Dan Bardell is joined by The Athletic's Jack Pitt-Brooke, Carl Anka & Oliver Kay to decide which players should make Gareth Southgate's final England squad for Euro 2020 from the provisional selection of 33. Will Trent Alexander-Arnold make the cut? Which players are unfortunate to miss out altogether? Also if Harry Maguire is not fit should England change tactics and play with a back three? Seb and JJ are holding the fort again; under discussion: the final games of the season across Europe. Why are Everton so thoroughly quite good?! Lille are crowned French champions, Atleti seal victory in La Liga, and Callum Davidson is everyone's hero as St Johnstone win the cup... twice! The last UCL places are decided in England and Italy with Leicester suffering disappointment again and, much to Seb's dismay, Juventus scraping home without Cristiano Ronaldo. Hosted on Acast. Far be it from us to hype up an England prospect now the Premier League has finished, but... Joe Willock? Marcus, Pete and Vish race through the big stories from the final weekend of the season, with Leicester missing out on the top four and West Ham whipping their passports out for the lads. Elsewhere, the chickens came home to roost for Barcelona and Chelsea, as Luis Suárez and a 99 Flake with raspberry sauce wreaked revenge respectively. Jimbo is joined by Adam Crafton, Duncan Alexander and David Preece ahead of the final weekend of the Premier League season. Three teams are battling it out for the one remaining place in the Champions League. Will losing out on the top 4 mean Leicester lose players? Will Harry Kane actually be allowed to leave Tottenham? We've got seasons ending with a lot on the line in England, Spain and Italy, and the podcast takes you around the big games and asks the important questions like, will Atalanta's players feel happy or sad on Sunday, what the hell is wrong with the La Liga table and why won't anyone put some respect on Ronald Koeman's name? It’s a shift in focus in this episode as Nessun Dorma takes a look at the bottom half of the Premier League table, and the extraordinary denouement of the 1993-94 season.Gary, Mike and special guest Scott Murray pick over the bones of a dramatic final day scrap, with five teams fighting to avoid the two remaining passes through the trap door and into Division 1.Gary reflects on a remarkable comeback by Everton and his memories from the Gwladys Street End that day, as one of England’s grand old clubs sailed perilously close to the wind. Elsewhere we’ll lament the demise of Oldham, celebrate the most significant patch of Matt Le Tissier’s storied career and look at the shocking fall of Sheffield United, who were safe all day until the very last seconds at Stamford Bridge. There’s a lovely montage of the goals and changes in the table from that day here, with doors sliding all over the place: Premier League 1994 Last Day - Sheffield United relegatedOur Player of the Pod is Eric Gates, Ipswich Town’s man-in-the-hole before we really knew what the hole was.
