Like a wise old panther used to a heist or two, Roy the Boy comes away from the Amex with all three points. Vish and Pete have the unenviable task of trying to restrain Jules on today’s Ramble! We look back at the smouldering wreckage last night but also look ahead to better times: being together in the summer, sharing in England’s latest catastrophe and listening to Zlatan Ibrahimović’s concert while our eardrums bleed. Lovely. Elsewhere, we check in with Sunderland’s new infant owner and some concerning developments in Bristol where Barton is mobilising an army… Search ‘Football Ramble’ on social media to find us, and email us here: [email protected]. ***Please take the time to rate and review us on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your pods. - SUBSCRIBE TO OUR PODCAST: http://cornerofthegalaxy.com/subscribe/ - COG LA GALAXY DISCORD: https://discord.gg/drr9HFZY2P - COG MERCHANDISE (SCARVES, T-SHIRTS, BUTTONS, COASTERS): http://www.cornerofthegalaxy.com/SHOP COG STUDIOS, Calif. -- Well, it looks like the LA Galaxy and the rest of Major League Soccer are going to have a 2021 season. And with news of a ratified Collective Bargaining Agreement, we'll tell you why no one except the owners seems to be celebrating. Hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter are going to walk through some of the big sticking points of the CBA and get into the details of why the players seemed to give nearly everything and got relatively little. And trust us, there are some hard feelings! The players agreed to extend the CBA through the 2027 season, but this contract still has one big loophole, and it's one that the owners have already exploited multiple times. So does this mean anything past the current year? And what about the gains and salary budgets for the next seven seasons? We have all the numbers! Plus, did you miss the US Open Cup? Well, the good news is that they plan on bringing it back this season. The bad news is that it's not much of an "open" cup. We'll tell you why there are limited teams, and so far, no criteria for how they're going to be selected. But it's unlikely the Galaxy will even be in it. So let's not get ahead of ourselves. And did you see a leaked away kit? Did it look like the 1997 home kit? We'll talk about the details and why it seems like you haven't been shown the authentic version of it yet. But it's definitely going to sell out, so start ordering it right now. Seriously. Don't wait. Finally, Josh and Kevin do a bit of a roundup at the end that talks about Cristian Pavon, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Husein Balic. It's a mix of current and past players that should have the Galaxy focusing on getting some signings across the line... quickly.

Musa and Ryan feast on the midweek action and begin with a feisty Derby della Madonnina, which saw some extremely personal beef resurface between Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic that resulted in an existential red card for the latter (7:15). They wrap up the rest of the midweek Coppa Italia games (15:48) as well as those in the Copa del Rey (18:03). It’s then on to the Premier League, with Sheffield United upsetting Manchester United (23:26), Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge at Chelsea (31:28), Manchester City’s demolition of West Brom (38:42), and a roundup of the rest of the Premier League (41:48). They wrap up with props for Emma Hayes, as Chelsea beat Aston Villa 4-0 to set a new FAWSL unbeaten record (49:17). Learn more about your ad choices. Alexi and Mosse open the show with all things CONCACAF Champions thriller between LAFC and America (6:20), including the final. Then, the guys shift focus to Europe (25:30), and discuss whether Manchester United is a contender or pretender, Jose Mourinho antics and struggles at Spurs, Arsenal’s skid, and debate if the proposed EURO Super League is a good idea. The guys also touch on the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s Best 11 among other awards. Looked at in #AskAlexi (1:00:18). Finally, Alexi caps the show with a fond farewell (1:15:34) in another remote edition of the State of the Union Podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Marcus, Jim and Andy are here after a paisley-draped Man City saw off a spirited fight from Wolves last night, while Aston Villa got a much-needed result over Sheffield United. Will Kevin De Bruyne establish himself as the best in the world post-Messi and Ronaldo, we wonder? We also look over some of football’s everlasting constants, as Zlatan Ibrahimović scored yet again and alpacas invade lower league matches. Meanwhile, Diego Simeone’s evil empire continues to grow: Luis Suárez and Diego Costa may soon be their strike partnership. My word. Musa and Ryan take another stroll through alternate soccer universes, beginning with what if Roman Abramovich had decided to buy Portsmouth, instead of Chelsea (03:30) in 2003. They then discuss what would have happened had Arsenal hired Johan Cruyff, not Arsène Wenger in 1996 (18:30), the Barcelona board hadn’t sanctioned a deal for Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2009 (34:26), and Neymar had joined Pep Guardiola’s Bayern instead of Barcelona in 2014 (46:20). Jules, Pete and Jim are here to discuss football. All the football. SO much football, and so much GOOD football! There’s also big news from IFAB, with a possible extension of the five substitutes malarkey, the indefatigable Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Neil Warnock riding his bike around Middlesbrough in training gear. We're packing up our metaphorical bags and jetting off with Andy Brassell for another episode of At The Match Revisited, as we take a look back at a time when we could get out and enjoy world football's best atmospheres. Today, Andy heads to Los Angeles to watch LAFC in their inaugural MLS season. He meets up with Jose Salcedo of the District 9 Ultras, plus 3252 members Karla Villaseñor and Sam Ko, to discuss why being in downtown Los Angeles is crucial, and why - even though their local rivals had Zlatan Ibrahimović at the time - they don’t envy the Galaxy. Then, join Andy out on the terraces as Will Ferrell leads the chanting and he basks in the amazing and authentic terrace atmosphere that this young club has managed to create. Tyler Miller was unfortunately on the negative end of Zlatan Ibrahimovic's miraculous debut goal in MLS, but he used that experience to grow as a goalkeeper. Tyler's now at Minnesota United and is dealing with the quarantine by training at home, and playing in eMLS tournaments, and kicking it with The Cooligans. We’re back in the studio with some more continental content, as Luke Moore and Andy Brassell are joined by The Guardian’s Nicky Bandini! We begin, as the man himself would expect, with Zlatan Ibrahimović’s largely uneventful debut for Milan. Nicky discusses how his leadership off the pitch might be more valuable than his contribution on it, as well as assessing Stefano Pioli’s struggles in the dugout. We also mention some struggles down south, as Gennaro Gattuso hasn’t had the best start at Napoli and club legend Dries Mertens now find himself resigned to the subs bench. Elsewhere, Andy runs us through Porto’s impressive win over Sporting and their impressive boss Sérgio Conceição. There’s also some chat on perhaps Europe’s best cup competition, the Coupe de France, and a preview of some cracking Games of the Week. Table-toppers Inter against free-scoring Atalanta, anyone?
