Could we see a free agent or a third DP added before the roster freeze? We chat about all of that and more.Turning our attention to the international stage, we delve into Canada's less than stellar start to the Octagon after they dropped two points to Honduras on Thursday night and what that might mean for the rest of their World Cup qualifying campaign. All this and more, plus we hear the postgame thoughts of head coach John Herdman.Plus Werd (SOS) features as our new Artist of the Month for September and Vanilla Muffins are back in Wavelength as Football Violence Awareness Month returns! Here's the rundown for the main segments from the episode:02.35: Axel Schuster interview31.42: Unpacking Axel54.32: Artist of the Month - Werd (SOS) - Echo58.11: Canada v Honduras World Cup qualifying chat86.08: Wavelength - Vanilla Muffins - Modern Football Sucks (Death of a Hooligan)

The US faced the Asian champs in the semifinals of the Gold Cup. A well-organized opponent with ways to score goals. We came out with the same lineup that battled its way to a 1-0 win over Jamaica. Full breakdown, takeaways, timeline.

Italy are European champions. Jimbo, Carl Anka, James Horncastle, Raphael Honigstein, David Preece and Daniel Storey review a wonderful night for the Azzurri but a heart-breaking night for England who lose on penalties at Wembley. Gareth Southgate’s side take a very early lead but are pegged back and worn down by their opponent. Like the 2018 World Cup semi-final but worse. It’s an inspirational group of players but in hindsight, did England throw this Euros away? And did they play that much football in the tournament? As for Italy, we salute a team that every other team made changes to their system for. And of course, they had the amazing Chiellini. The star of this Italy team and finally a European champion. Welcome to Episode 49 of Glory Days of Gold. The fourth, and what is now sadly our final, of our Euro 2020 specials. The dream is over. Scotland returned to a major tournament for the first time in 23 years and it was like we had never left, as they failed to make it out of the group stages again and all the hopes were left lying in tatters following a 3-1 loss to a much better Croatia side, all made even worse by not doing it on home soil at Hampden. So while there's pride at the performance against England, and some fighting spirit shown in all three games, ultimately we struggled from not having a deadly finisher that could take the chances that were being created. Was that the main difference between qualifying or not or was it Scotland's shape, tactics, and team selections that let them down? How big a loss was Billy Gilmour? And were we just all swept up in the emotional rollercoaster of just being there and simply outplayed?Kenny Deuchar joins Lee, Doug, and Gordon to look at all of that and more, and ponder what's next for the Scotland national team and who should be the players to try and get us to Qatar next year?

We had a little international / Easter break of our own, so Kris, Jez and Phil have a lot to round up this week. France drew with Ukraine and beat Kazakhstan and Bosnia-Herzogovina in World Cup qualifying, and the U21s lost to Denmark and beat Russia and Iceland to progress to the quarter-finals of the Euros. Then we had a key set of games on Saturday in Ligue 1 as Lille beat PSG, Monaco beat Metz and Lyon drew at Lens to throw the top of the table into a spin, and elsewhere there were concussions, penalties, red cards and much more besides.

Joe returns to talk England with Alex and Seb. Can they actually win the Euros? Which of Gareth Southgate's brilliant attacking players is going to miss out? Also: Qatar. With Norway's players protesting over the weekend, what's expected of international players in this situation. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
