The first four Round of 16 matches delivered excitement, if not many surprises. The Soccer Sharps got clobbered on their plays for the Netherlands v USA match, but from then on, it was pretty smooth sailing. Of course, there was the miserable bad beat at the end of the France v Poland match, which blew the bets of many gamblers on Sunday, but the less said about that, the better. Devin and Jordan are back to preview the remaining four Round of 16 matchups, sharing their best bets for each. Jimbo welcomes Carl Anka, Lynsey Hooper, Julien Laurens and Jack Pitt-Brooke into the pod after a bumper day of last 16 World Cup action. England, inspired by Jude Bellingham, ease past Senegal in convincing fashion. Maybe Gareth Southgate is good at this managing at major tournaments malarkey. That said, the Three Lions face the French in the quarter-finals, after the holders pick off Poland. Olivier Giroud completes his remarkable career story by becoming his nation’s all time top scorer. And Kylian Mbappe looks like the best player on the planet. Monday sees Brazil play South Korea while Japan take on Croatia. Tas Okawa tells us what the best week in Japanese football history has meant to the people back home. Produced by Charlie Jones. It’s Jimbo, Tom Williams and Sasha Goryunov on the pod after Day 13 of the World Cup. South Korea score an unbelievably late winner to progress from Group H leaving Uruguay to do some Seoul searching. Korean journalist Sungmo Lee gives us his reaction. Uruguay’s win over Ghana wasn’t enough for them and the Black Stars were awarded another penalty against the South Americans...which the they missed. Just a little bit of history repeating… In Group G, Serbia succumbed to Switzerland 3-2 despite two goals from their superb centre forwards Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic. The Athletic’s Charlotte Harpur gives us on-the -whistle reaction from the 974 stadium. Finally, we look ahead to the knockouts! The first last 16 tie sees the US play the Netherlands. The Athletic's Jeff Rueter and our old Dutch pal Michiel Jongsma give us the respective perspective from the Amerikee and Holland. Produced by Steve Hankey Hosted on Acast. Matchday 13 of the Qatar 2022 world cup! The last day of the group stages Morayo, Elijah and Reemz get together to digest an exciting ending to groups G and H! Today was a day of rematches. Brazil entered match day three already through to the knockout stages, so fielded a weakened side. They were beaten 1-0 by Cameroon. Serbia and Switzerland had a rematch of their 2018 game which served up another dramatic 3-2 tie. Ghana and Uruguay meet after the 2010 World Cup and history repeats itself with Uruguay winning the game but not making the knockout rounds with Korea Republic pulling off a dramatic late win over Portugal. We also put together our best and worst group stage teams and had a brief look at the knockout ties. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
