Hello Rank Squad! This international break gave us what we've been waiting for - the final names locked in for this summer's World Cup field. 48 nations have locked and loaded their spots in the biggest tournament in world football. Perhaps the biggest one missing though, once again, is Italy - with the Azzurri beaten on penalties by Bosnia & Herzegovina to make it three World Cups in a row that they have now missed out on qualification for. We break down that game, as well as Czechia's penalty shootout win over Denmark; Sweden's dramatic late show against Poland; and Türkiye's ground out 1-0 win over Kosovo; as the final European nations booked their places, before heading onwards to take a look at some of our favourite things from the now-set group stages. We take a peek at where the biggest upsets could come, the Group of Death, the Group of Life, where the goals will come, where the chaos will come and who has the most to lose, within the 12 groups of four; before rounding things off with the games you cannot miss in that first round of fixtures. It's Ranks! And remember, if you’d like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon? Jumping for joy or cautiously optimistic? Either way, it could’ve been much worse. Jimmy Conrad, Charlie Davies, and Tony Meola break down the USMNT’s 2026 World Cup draw: Paraguay, Australia, and one of Kosovo/Romania/Slovakia/Türkiye. The crew sizes up how co-hosts Mexico and Canada fared, debates whether a 48-team tournament can even have a true “group of death,” and revisits the Stars and Stripes’ recent clashes with Paraguay and Australia. Charlie talks about the mood in D.C. and shares Mauricio Pochettino’s reaction, and the guys lament the glaring absence of U.S. Soccer during the draw ceremony and take some questions. Lisa Carlin, Sandra Herrera, and Darian Jenkins analyze the US women's 2-1 win over Australia to cap off a near perfect group stage for the program. The crew discuss how Emma Hayes’ players have become more adept at playing against a low block and how the USWNT’s second half subs impacted the game. Then, a roundup of the action elsewhere in the as Germany, Spain and Japan also marched onto the knockout rounds, a tearful Marta might have made her Brazil bow, and Nigeria and Zambia crashed out. Matt Davies Adams, Daniel Storey and Adam Crafton are here on the day of goals and destiny in the Euros. In Group F, F stood for fun as each team at some stage were bottom of the table or facing England in the next round. In Group E, we weren't expecting too much but Spain came to have a fiesta, with a hand from Martin Dubravka, whilst Sweden and Poland put on a five goal thriller. So have Spain finally arrived? And now all eyes turn to the Round of 16 which kicks off on Saturday with Wales v Denmark with the former left asking "are we the badies?" And we try to work out if there's any way past Italy for Austria. All that plus a dive into UEFA's "politics", some Euro 2004 action, and our updated predictions. Matt Davies Adams, Tom Williams, and Daniel Storey are here as England top Group D and as Scotland bid farewell to their first tournament in 23 years. So Scotland are out but what does it mean? We ask The Athletic's Jordan Campbell who's live at Hampden for his reflections on a heartbreaking night for the Tartan Army. More positive scenes over at Wembley though, well for 12 minutes anyway, as Sterling netted again and England top the group and look at facing, erm, France/Germany/Portugal/Hungary! Speaking of which tomorrow is today and today is the last day of the group stages, and there are still two groups to sort out. Namely Group E and F where it's looking concerning for Spain and rather brighter for Germany. All that plus we hit a few bum notes. RUNNING ORDER PART 1: Heroes to Villains (01m 30s) PART 2a: Scotland 1-3 Croatia with Jordan Campbell (03m 30s) PART 2b: England 1-0 Czech Republic (12m 30s) PART 3a: Wembley capacity (24m 30s) PART 3b: Spain v Slovakia preview with Alvaro Romeo (28m 00s) PART 3c: Sweden v Poland preview (35m 30s) PART 4a: Hungary v Germany preview (39m 00s) PART 4b: France v Poland preview (42m 30s) PART 5: The Odds with Paddy Power (46m 30s) PART 6: Big bums big help (50m 00s) SIGN UP TO THE ATHLETIC FOR £1 A MONTH FOR YOUR FIRST 6 MONTHS: • theathletic.com/totally GET IN TOUCH: • follow us on Instagram • find us on Facebook • send us a tweet: @TheTotallyShow PARISH NOTICES: • we’re sponsored by Paddy Power - home of the Money Back Special READ STUFF ON OUR WEBSITE: • check out thetotallyfootballshow.com. So, apparently Crew want to keep playing soccer. Cool. It's another MLS Is Back, Coronavirus Is Still Here edition of ACES Radio! Drabby, Bront, and SPECIAL GUEST HOST CHARLES CANPENISNO discuss the results against NYRB, ATLUTDWTF, and their overall impressions of the group stage. They talk injuries (many), stadium virtual events (one), and Nordecke efforts with Voycenow (maybe more than one? GASP). Finally, Charles talks about his kink (hint, it's very hairy) and the lads preview Crew vs. The Fightin' Ethan Finlays of Minnesota, eh?
