The Euro crew are back as Jimbo, Pol Ballús, James Horncastle, Julien Laurens and Seb Stafford-Bloor (in person!) assemble for a bumper look ahead to Matchday 1 in the Champions League. Barcelona proved it’s a case of no Yamal, no stadium, no problem - routing Valencia 6-0 in front of less than 6,000 fans at the Johan Cruyff Stadium. But it’s Real who continue to set the early pace - reduced to 10-men but still able to get the better of Sociedad to maintain their perfect start to the season. The game of the weekend came in Serie A, where the Derby d'Italia certainly didn’t disappoint as the Thuram brothers took centre stage in a 4-3 thriller in Turin. Plus - Antonio Conte 2.0 shows he’s not as inflexible as everyone thinks - with his Napoli side coasting to a 3-1 win at Fiorentina to also make it three wins from three at the start of the campaign. Bayern warmed up for the visit of Chelsea with an emphatic 5-0 Bundesliga victory over Hamburg on Saturday, while Leverkusen got the post-ten Hag era off to a winning start in their 3-1 beating of Frankfurt - despite being reduced to nine men! PSG suffered injury blows aplenty in their 2-0 win over Lens which featured an emotional goodbye to one of their own - Presnel Kimpembe - after more than 20 years at the club. Plus, how equipped are Marseille to come away from the Bernabéu with a result in one of the most intriguing ties of the round? All that plus training ground cats, Charli xcx’s wedding, nights out in Monaco and a whole lot of innuendo (we can only apologise). Produced by Lucy Oliva. Jimbo's joined by Duncan Alexander, Tom Williams and Colin Millar to take stock after a night of pure drama at Blundell Park as Manchester United suffered the indignity of being dumped out of the League Cup by League Two Grimsby Town. We dial up a Mariners fan - actor, presenter and comedian Lloyd Griffith - and The Athletic's Manchester United reporter Laurie Whitwell to discuss the extraordinary scenes in Cleethorpes as Ruben Amorim's side plumbed new depths. Then we turn out attention to the weekend's Premier League action - headlined by the small matter of Liverpool v Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. How will Liverpool's defensive chaos match up with Arsenal's more measured approach to these big games? Elsewhere, can Tottenham continue their eye-catching start to the season under Thomas Frank when they host Bournemouth? Which Man City will we see at Brighton? And just how bad are West Ham ahead of their trip to the City ground on Sunday? All that plus - age gap passes, minimal touches, cubic roots and chicken dinners. Jimbo’s joined by his continental crew - James Horncastle, Julien Laurens, Pol Ballús and Seb Stafford-Bloor - to look back on the latest week of action from across Europe AND look ahead to the decisive Champions League matchday 8 ties. Nine teams have already been eliminated from the competition with three more to go, but can Manchester City avoid being one of them? Belgian football expert Kristof Terreur joins us to preview their must-win game against Club Brugge. Elsewhere, it’s also finely poised between Stuttgart and PSG who sit 24th and 22nd in the table… Back to domestic matters, and in Serie A Napoli continued their fine form and made it 7 wins on the bounce as they fought back from a goal to win 2-1 over Juventus and end their unbeaten record. Plus, drama at the San Siro as Conceição and Calabria almost came to blows… In La Liga Kylian Mbappé bagged his first hat-trick for Real Madrid as they went four points clear at the top of the table after a 3-0 victory over Real Valladolid. That’s after Atléti were held to a 1-1 draw with Villarreal, while Barcelona put just the seven past Valencia as they got back to winning ways in the league. Over in Germany, Bayern moved six points clear at the top after their 2-1 win at Freiburg, while closest rivals Leverkusen saw a two-goal lead evaporate as they were held by Leipzig. And in Ligue 1, PSG dropped points for the fifth time this season in a 1-1 draw with Reims at the Parc de Princes. But they’ve actually extended their lead at the top to 10 points after Marseille were beaten 2-0 by Nice in the Derby de la Mediterranée. Produced by Lucy Oliva. Julien Laurens, Pol Ballús, Seb Stafford Bloor and James Horncastle join Jimbo for a look ahead to matchday five in the Champions League - and a look back on the return to domestic action across Europe. All eyes on Anfield on Wednesday night as Real Madrid take on old friends Liverpool - having got right back into things in the La Liga title race with their commanding 3-0 win over Leganes which leaves them just four points behind leaders Barcelona with a game in hand. That’s after Hansi Flick’s side saw a two-goal lead slip away in their draw at Celta Vigo ahead of Tuesday night’s meeting with Brest. It’s still incredibly tight at the top in Serie A, with Napoli beating Roma 1-0 to spoil Claudio Ranieri’s first match back in charge - thanks to a goal from a certain Romelu Lukaku. The less said about Milan 0-0 Juventus the better as Thiago Motta’s side continue to uninspire with a trip to Villa Park looming on Wednesday… Bayern Munich and Harry Kane continue to lead the charge in the Bundesliga after their 3-0 win over Augsburg - but do they need a statement win against PSG to show their credentials? Plus, a big win for Dortmund on the pitch against Freiburg - but drama at their AGM off it. And in Ligue 1, PSG warmed up for that trip to the Allianz Arena with a 3-0 win over Toulouse - so can they finally translate their domestic dominance into a much-needed victory in the Champions League? Pol Ballús, Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford Bloor and James Horncastle are alongside Jimbo for your weekly dose of action from across the continent. We’ve reached the halfway stage of the Champions League league phase, with some tasty matchday four ties to preview including Inter v Arsenal, Liverpool v Leverkusen and PSG v Atléti. Domestically, it was a reduced schedule in Spain following the devastating flash floods in Valencia. We discuss the reaction to any football at all being played following the natural disaster - which included Barcelona's derby win over Espanyol. Napoli were stunned in their own backyard, handed a 3-0 defeat by Atalanta in Antonio Conte’s first defeat since his first game in charge. It means Inter are just a point off top spot in Serie A as they closed the gap thanks to a 1-0 victory over strugglers Venezia. In Ligue 1, PSG extended their lead to six points thanks to a narrow 1-0 win over Lens to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign. After being unbeaten since April, it’s now back-to-back defeats for Monaco as Adi Hütter’s men slipped to third following their 1-0 defeat by Angers. And in the Bundesliga, Dortmund picked up a precious three points for beleaguered manager Nuri Şahin as they inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Leipzig. Bayern took full advantage, scoring goals for fun to move three points clear at the summit - while Leverkusen find themselves seven points off the pace after their goalless draw with Stuttgart. Plus, are Ajax finally back?! Michiel Jongsma joins us to reflect on Saturday’s 3-2 win over PSV - which moves Francesco Farioli’s side five points behind Eredivisie leaders Eindhoven with a game in hand. *** We’ve been nominated for Podcast of the Year at the 2024 Football Supporters’ Association Awards! Jimbo’s joined by James Horncastle, Pol Ballús, Julien Laurens and Seb Stafford Bloor to round up the welcome return to domestic action across the continent. Barcelona extended their perfect start in La Liga under Hansi Flick with a 4-1 victory at Girona, while Real Madrid and Atleti both won to keep up the pressure - including first goals for Conor Gallagher and Julián Alvarez. Harry Kane’s been doing Harry Kane things - scoring his fifth Bayern hat-trick as they hammered Holstein Kiel 6-1 to make it three wins from three under Vincent Kompany in the Bundesliga. Dortmund kept up the early pressure with their own 4-2 triumph over Heidenheim. AC Milan finally showed up to the party with their first three points under Paulo Fonseca in Serie A - plus Napoli are flying after their 4-0 win at Cagliari. Jimbo's joined by Duncan Alexander and Sasha Goryunov to reflect on the dramatic climax to Group B at Euro 2024. We begin in Leipzig - where Mattia Zaccagni scored in the final minute of stoppage time as Italy broke Croatian hearts with a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw that ensures the defending champions progress to the last 16 - and leaves Luka Modrić and co all but eliminated. A beer-soaked Tim Spiers dials in on the final whistle before James Horncastle reports back from a rather spiky Luciano Spalletti press conference... No such drama for Spain, who cruised into the next round with their third victory and third clean sheet of the tournament in their 1-0 win over Albania (which happened to assure the Three Lions of a spot in the next round...). Michael Cox is on hand to tell us more from the Düsseldorf Arena. Then, it's all eyes on Group C and D who face their final outings on matchday three. We get the Slovenian perspective from journalist Miran Zore ahead of their meeting with England - and preview the fortunes of the other sides in action on a bumper day 12 out in Germany. The Euro crew of Jimbo, James Horncastle, Julien Laurens, Alvaro Romeo and Raphael Honigstein convene to assess another dramatic weekend. Napoli make it 13 wins in a row while Inter also turn on the style. But the ultras at San Siro enforce a walk-out among the fans whether they like it or not, a reminder of their power. There’s more 99th minute misery for Atletico in La Liga as we ask just how much of this decline is on Diego Simeone? There’s a 97th minute winner from Union Berlin to stay top of the Bundesliga and another stellar display from Lionel Messi in Ligue 1 with Phil Neville sniffing around. Plus Felix, Focaccina and a final in France for Spurs. Produced by Charlie Jones.
