Suj & James discuss yesterday's announcement of Gareth Southgate's England World Cup Squad and on the whole it's largely a positive reaction with in-form Ben White, James Maddison and Callum Wilson all getting call ups. There are however areas of concern in the wing-back positions with Luke Shaw the only natural left footed defensive player in the squad, concerns around the fitness of players like Kalvin Phillips and overall concerns with the lack of midfield options. Plus, why the team picked for the opener against Iran shouldn't be definitive of what England's best eleven is going to be and whether a back three or four should be favoured in the opening stages of the tournament. On Clash of the Correspondents this week James is joined by Liverpool fan Dan Lord and Southampton fan Matt Samuel to discuss all the latest at their clubs and preview Saturday's meeting at Anfield. Are Liverpool for sale? FSG are reported to be willing to negotiate on offers for control of the club. There’s discussion on if they’ve been good for Liverpool and whether The Reds can sustain challenging the likes of Manchester City in the longer term without added investment. And what now for Southampton? Ralph Hassenhuttl was dismissed on Monday with news at the time of recording suggesting Luton Town manager Nathan Jones will be next. There’s reflection on Hassenhuttl’s tenure and whether Jones is suitable replacement. Plus, FPL assets discussed with Liverpool players likely to be popular heading into the weekend meeting and both clubs have not only attractive, but also similar, fixtures after the World Cup.
