Jimbo’s got Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford-Bloor, Rory Smith and Pol Ballús alongside him for all the latest continental chatter. Friday afternoon’s Champions League draw presented some fascinating match-ups including Real v Atleti, Bayern v Bayer and PSG v Liverpool. We’ve got a closer look at all those ties with the round of 16 looming… In La Liga, it was a rare weekend where all three title challengers registered three fairly comfortable wins! It leaves Barca and Real locked on 54 points at the top, with Atleti just a point behind. Over in France there was plenty of drama on and off the pitch - with cowboy hats, calls of corruption and meltdowns caught on CCTV. But away from all that, the table shows that PSG have extended their lead at the top to 13 points after their 3-2 victory at Lyon. Speaking of corruption - Slovenian ref Slavko Vincic was parachuted in to referee the Istanbul derby after a season marred by controversial officiating and allegations of foulplay. It was a rather eventful evening as Galatasaray said they would "initiate criminal proceedings" against Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho after claiming he made "racist statements" following the teams' 0-0 draw. For a closer look at Serie A we’re joined by Sky Italia’s Filippo Benincampi - as Cesc’s Como got the better of Conte’s Napoli to cost them top spot, Inter taking full advantage with their 1-0 win over Genoa. And in the Bundesliga, there were finally signs of life for Dortmund as Niko Kovac picked up his first league win courtesy of a four-goal haul from Serhou Guirassy, aided by super sub and Chelsea loanee Carney Chukwuemeka. Produced by Lucy Oliva. On a night Man City had no margin for error, Kylian Mbappe took away any hope scoring his first hat-trick at the Bernabeu for Real Madrid. With his treble, the Frenchman became just the fourth player to score a Champions League knockout hat-trick for Madrid following in the footsteps of the likes of Ronaldo Nazario, Karim Benzema and of course Cristiano Ronaldo. So can Mbappe reach Cristano Ronaldo's levels at Real Madrid? Ayo Akinwolere is joined by The Athletic's Real Madrid writer Guillermo Rai and Tomas Hill Lopez-Menchero to analyse the win over Man City and how fair Carlo Ancelotti's side can go in this season's Champions League. Plus, French football writer Tom Williams drops by to discuss Mbappe's evolution and his use of speed through his career. Liverpool draw 2-2 on a Wednesday night again, this time at Villa Park. James Pearce reviews that game and looks ahead to a game with previously the Reds’ fiercest rivals for silverware. Elsewhere in the Champions League, it was a disastrous week for Serie A with four Italian clubs in the competition becoming just one and some generational head losses. Plus a defence of Brendan Rodgers, the first goal at Bramley-Moore Dock and what Tottenham want everyone to call them. Produced by Charlie Jones. Jimbo’s joined by Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford-Bloor, Pol Ballús and Michael Cox for your weekly dose of European action. We begin with the big F-bomb controversy which has taken La Liga by storm, Nabil Bentaleb’s dream return to action for Lille - and a look ahead to the all-important Champions League Knockout Round Play-off second legs, with Real v Man City topping the midweek billing. Elsewhere in Spain, the costly red cards for Bellingham and Barrios meant Real and Atleti left the door wide open for Barcelona who faced Rayo Vallecano on Monday night (after we’d recorded) - and it turns out that Antony fella is actually quite good - after making in three goals in three games at new home Betis… Over in Germany, it looks like Bayern Munich have one hand on the Bundesliga title after their goalless draw with closest rivals Bayer Leverkusen means the gap at the top of the table stays at eight points. Elsewhere the domestic misery continues to pile on Borussia Dortmund, beaten 2-0 by Bochum and sitting 11th in the league. In Italy, Juventus continued their surge up the Serie A table with a 1-0 win over Inter in the Derby d'Italia. It means Simone Inzaghi’s side missed the chance to go top after leaders Napoli had fallen to their third consecutive draw, held 2-2 by Lazio. And in Ligue 1, Fabian Ruiz bagged the only goal against Toulouse as PSG maintained their 10-point lead at the top of the table while Mika Biereth continued his remarkable start to life in Monaco with his second hat-trick in as many home games in their 7-1 thrashing of Nantes. Produced by Lucy Oliva. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Moments of the weekend, profanity & Champions League teases (00.45) • PART 2: La Liga review - Real and Atleti drop points to open door for Barca (16.00) • PART 3: Bundesliga review - Top two stalemate hands title advantage to Kompany’s side (26.52) • PART 4: Serie A review - Juve mounting top four charge as Napoli draw three in a row (41.45) • PART 5: Ligue 1 review - Bentaleb’s fairytale goal as Strasbourg fly high (50.45) Hosted on Acast. Jimbo’s got Pol Ballús, Seb Stafford-Bloor, Julien Laurens and Rory Smith alongside him as the Champions League Knockout Round Play-offs get underway. We start with a look at some of the big ties across Tuesday and Wednesday including the small matter of Manchester City v Real Madrid - for the fourth season in a row in Europe! Elsewhere, there’s the all-French affair between Brest and PSG, Celtic host Bayern Munich and Feyenoord v Milan just got a bit more interesting following the dismissal of Brian Priske… Domestically, in Spain the La Liga title race is the gift that keeps on giving with just two points separating Real, Atleti and Barcelona at the top of the table. That’s after Carlo Ancelotti’s side were held in a 1-1 draw by their Madrid rivals, allowing Barca to close the gap with a 4-1 victory over Sevilla. Over in Italy, it was a big Monday night in Milan as the Champions closed the gap to leaders Napoli to just one point after a 2-1 win over Fiorentina… just four nights after they’d played in Bergamot and la Viola had won 3-0 in a match that was rescheduled after the collapse of midfielder Edoardo Bove back in December. Napoli’s lead at the top stands at one point as they were held by Udinese. In France, PSG continued their imperious Ligue 1 form with a 4-1 victory over Monaco, which included a first goal for the club for a certain Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Distant chasers Marseille and Nice both registered wins of their own to keep up their Champions League charge in what’s a very competitive chase for a top three spot. And in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich prepared for their trip to Glasgow with a 3-0 win over Werder Bremen, stretching their lead at the top of the table to eight points. That’s because closest rivals Leverkusen let complacency creep in again as they were held to a goalless draw by Wolfsburg. Meanwhile, Dortmund have gone five home games without a win in the league - their worst run since 2006 - after their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Stuttgart. Produced by Lucy Oliva. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Moments of the weekend (00.45) • PART 2: Champions League teases (06.15) • PART 3: La Liga review - Title race gets even tighter, plus is Antony actually good in Spain?! (10.35) • PART 4: Serie A review - Miixed fortunes in Inter v Fiorentina double-header as Napoli slip up again (21.20) • PART 5: Ligue 1 review - Kvara bags his first PSG goal as chasing pack bunches up (41.35) • PART 6: Bundesliga review - Bayern extend their lead while Dortmund’s troubles continue (49.25) Hosted on Acast.
