Nish Kumar - Premier Passions : S01E08

This week comedian Nish Kumar joins us in the ‘Quickly Kevin…’ studio to discuss ‘Premier Passions’, the documentary series following Sunderland and then manager Peter Reid’s retrospectively harrowing attempt to establish the club as a Premier League force in the late 90’s. A fly on the wall look at how precisely NOT to run a football club, where boardroom level concerns about bathroom fixtures and Terence Conran designed stadium interiors took precedent over signing a striker capable of competing in the highest division. There are, unsurprisingly, more lows than highs, as the aspirations of club, manager and fans slowly turn to dread with the same traumatically inevitable sense of doom one gets from watching Denis Irwin and Brian McClair double teaming David Busst circa 1996. You can find the episodes we watched here…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbPKFiKE4-Ahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XRiu_z9f10It was so brilliantly bleak we only managed to watch two of the five episodes, and given the choice of watching the remaining three or being forced to drown a sack of kittens at gunpoint whilst footage of all England’s penalty misses in the 90’s played on loop in the background, we’d obviously choose to watch the remaining episodes. But only just…. There is also an unbelievable story about 90’s legend and Dube maestro Dion Dublin crossing paths with perennial landfill-indie whipping boys, Toploader. Efan Ekoku makes an obligatory (blink and you’ll miss it) cameo mention, plus all the usual correspondence, features, and items you’ve come to endure like the squad player nobody is ever excited to see warming up on the side-lines. Yes, that means you, Darren Caskey. As always, to get in touch with the show and keep up to date on all the latest news….Email: [email protected]: @QuicklyKevinFacebook: Quickly KevinAnd don't forget: instagram.com/quicklykevinAND LASTLY! Go on iTunes. Think of the most niche 90s footballer you can. Leave a review which mentions them. We'll read our favourites and the best will make an appearance in the following weeks show. (We’re contractually obliged to say the review doesn’t need to be 5 stars, but you’ve got as much chance getting picked as Steve Bruce did getting a senior cap for England if you don’t leave a five star review. As much chance getting picked as Kevin Keegan did at holding onto a 12 point lead at the top of the table if…..you get the idea) Enjoy the show and we are back next week for episode nine.Chris, Josh and Michael Hosted on Acast. John Terry & Defending

Joe is joined by umaxit.com content editor Seb Stafford-Bloor to discuss John Terry's announcement, and defending; in the England team and beyond. The episode also includes a reading of uMAXit writer Stephen Tudor's article on the waving of imaginary cards. Tom Craine discusses 'The Impossible Job': S01E05

The Impossible Job is simply the greatest ever documentary about football (excluding Danny Baker’s Own Goals and Gaffs 2). A behind the scenes look at England’s failure to qualify for the 1994 World Cup it is heartbreaking, poignant and packed to the brim with Carlton Palmer. This week we sat down with comedian Tom Craine (writer of Josh and the excellent new BBC3 series Climaxed) to discuss what it was like to rewatch it 23 years on. Hosted on Acast. Jim Rosenthal: S01E06

ITV in the 90s were famous for three things; Deirdre Barlow, adverts and our guest this week, Jim Rosenthal. He's covered 8 World Cups, even getting embedded with the England team for Italia 90. He was pitchside reporter the night Gareth Southgate missed in the shootout against Germany in Euro 96. And, the greatest honour of them all, once did an FA Cup draw with Graham Kelly. Plus we finally start a bespoke section that literally no-one demanded: 90s footballers spotted on water slides. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Episode 184 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Laba Land with guests Sam Adekugbe and Erik Hurtado)

Has the doom and gloom been lifted in Whitecapsland? Well, just as one swallow doesn't make a summer, one victory doesn't mean Vancouver Whitecaps have turned their season around. But it's a promising sign. We look back on the 'Caps 4-2 win over LA Galaxy. The highs, the lows, and all the main talking points, blown calls, and questions the match posed. Have the 'Caps finally found their clinical finisher in Fredy Montero? Did the Kekuta Manneh trade finally give the rest of the squad the wake up call they needed? What does the addition of Tony Tchani mean to this team? And who was that in Mati Laba's shirt and what have you done with the real Mati? We'll hear from the LA losers too, from grumpy head coach Curt Onalfo, Jermaine Jones, and Ashley Cole, as LA were (mostly) brutally honest about their shortcomings. One player who never made it past half time was Erik Hurtado. We chat with the striker about his season so far and what it meant to him personally to lose his best friend in the team in Manneh. Our main player interview this week is with Residency alumni Sam Adekugbe, back in Vancouver rehabbing the injury he picked up while on loan with Brighton and Hove Albion. We chat with Sam about his time with English Championship side so far, his current injury, his frustrations, and what the future may hold in store for him. Will it be in Canada or England? And there's still time for I, Ludicrous to feature again in this week's Wavelength section and to look ahead to the CONCACAF Champions League semi-final at home to Tigres on Wednesday. Have a listen!

THE MERSEYSIDE DERBY SPECIAL! | THE REDMEN TV | LIVERPOOL FC PODCAST

This week the lads focus on the Merseyside Derby, obviously. What do they want the starting 11 to be? Jordan Henderson or Emre Can? Everton haven’t won at Anfield since ’99! Get In The Bin is also back as they throw a much hated topic away. They also answer your questions, of course, including what their best ‘Home end of an Away ground’ experience was and ’Should we bring back Sakho’. Hosted on Acast.
