Vancouver Whitecaps are in a mess. Or are a mess. Or maybe both. Forget Friday the 13th, Saturday the 13th was a day to avoid for them, with no luck to be found at BC Place. We look at where the Whitecaps go from here, the defensive deficiencies, and the lack of attack, plus hear Marc Dos Santos' thoughts on it all ahead of two tough games this week. We also hear SKC head coach Peter Vermes' thoughts on the match and the Whitecaps, look around the happenings in MLS, and get a chat with the man, KC's Scottish forward Johnny Russell about life in the league, whether Sporting can launch a late push for the playoffs, and his thoughts on the new Scotland boss Steve Clarke. We have a point! From small acorns do big playoff pushes grow. Hopefully. Vancouver Whitecaps finished March with a draw against Seattle Sounders. Vancouver Whitecaps must be wishing that the World Cup "break" was still going on. I know we do! Two defeats in two matches against two lowly teams has derailed all the good work done before the break and put the Whitecaps playoff hopes very much in trouble as they slip further behind in the points per game standings. We look back at Vancouver's Canada Day defeat at home to Colorado Rapids. What went wrong? How much of it was on the 'Caps and how much was down to the play of the visitors? And where does the team go from here? We also hear from both head coaches, Colorado's Anthony Hudson and Vancouver's Carl Robinson, plus we speak with Tim Howard, who had a lot to say about Vancouver fans and MLS security after the game. We also look back at what came out of the Whitecaps Town Hall meeting midweek and chat about a fantastic week of World Cup action and what lies ahead. Plus our exclusive chat with Kendall Waston upon his return from Russia after an eventful tournament with Costa Rica. Plus we take great joy at wallowing in Zach's German gloom and play one of the worst World Cup songs of all time, and that's saying something! We also bring you a double dose of Wavelength this week featuring Bell and Sebastian and Halftime Oranges. Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? The Whitecaps have won again. And they're in third place just off the lead. Are they real deal? Can they sustain this good run of form to claim a first ever Western Conference title? They got a four game home stand off to a great start against Real Salt Lake. We look back at all the ins and outs, and highs and lows, from the 3-2 win and look ahead to the next two matches against Minnesota and Columbus. Our feature interview this week is with a man who knows Columbus very well, midfielder Tony Tchani, plus we're joined on the phone by Philly.com reporter Jonathan Tannenwald and AFTN writer Chris Corrigan to look at all things MLS and Whitecaps. All this, plus we talk ice cream with Robert Earnshaw, find out if Carl Valentine fancies a chocolate digestive, and The Business return for this week's Wavelength section. What a weekend! Vancouver Whitecaps were in action at MLS, USL, and USSDA levels, and TSS Rovers had a double header with Victoria Highlanders with the Juan de Fuca Plate. A feast of football as the temperature gauge rose, and we have it all covered in this episode of the AFTN Soccer Show. Our player interview this episode is with the 'Caps Mr Versatile, Andrew Jacobson, we hear from coaches Carl Robinson and Adrian Heath after Vancouver's 2-2 draw in Minnesota, and Art Brut are featured in this week's Wavelength. Has the doom and gloom been lifted in Whitecapsland? Well, just as one swallow doesn't make a summer, one victory doesn't mean Vancouver Whitecaps have turned their season around. But it's a promising sign. We look back on the 'Caps 4-2 win over LA Galaxy. The highs, the lows, and all the main talking points, blown calls, and questions the match posed. Have the 'Caps finally found their clinical finisher in Fredy Montero? Did the Kekuta Manneh trade finally give the rest of the squad the wake up call they needed? What does the addition of Tony Tchani mean to this team? And who was that in Mati Laba's shirt and what have you done with the real Mati? We'll hear from the LA losers too, from grumpy head coach Curt Onalfo, Jermaine Jones, and Ashley Cole, as LA were (mostly) brutally honest about their shortcomings. One player who never made it past half time was Erik Hurtado. We chat with the striker about his season so far and what it meant to him personally to lose his best friend in the team in Manneh. Our main player interview this week is with Residency alumni Sam Adekugbe, back in Vancouver rehabbing the injury he picked up while on loan with Brighton and Hove Albion. We chat with Sam about his time with English Championship side so far, his current injury, his frustrations, and what the future may hold in store for him. Will it be in Canada or England? And there's still time for I, Ludicrous to feature again in this week's Wavelength section and to look ahead to the CONCACAF Champions League semi-final at home to Tigres on Wednesday. Have a listen!

Four days, two matches, two different competitions, two defeats. That's been Vancouver Whitecaps' week, but the performances and circumstances of the games against San Jose Earthquakes and Tigres in the 'Volcano' were very different natural disasters. The 'Caps battled hard against a much better Tigres side in Mexico on Tuesday night, coming away with just a two goal deficit and are still very much in their CONCACAF Champions League semi-final. We look back at the game, the performances, and the strange feeling of coming away from a game that we expected the team to do much worse in but being disappointed with how things ultimately played out. 'Caps coach Carl Robinson gave us a call just before he headed home from Mexico to chat about the game and what may lie in store in the second leg (00:16:23 mark). There were some good defensive displays in Mexico, especially from Kendall Waston and David Ousted. But where was that in San Jose? Can they produce that every week in MLS? San Jose was a mess. We look at the great start, the turning point of Ousted's sending off, and the subsequent defensive collapse, posing the question what future does Kekuta Manneh have with this team if he can't add a better defensive side to his game and what could the 'Caps get for him if they decided to put him up for a trade? Our player interview this week is with one of the Whitecaps most recent additions, Brek Shea (00:49:48). We sit down with Brek to talk about his career, moving to Vancouver, and life off the pitch. We found it an interesting chat and we're sure you will too. And there's still time to bring you Tim Parker's footballing bucket list (01:16:17). Have a listen.
