Vicky Gomersall is joined by Sky Sports News reporter Gary Cotterill and The Sunday Times Chief Football Writer Jonathan Northcroft to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We begin by looking at the Premier League title race, with Liverpool in touching distance to secure the title. How important will Virgil Van Dijk’s new contract be? Gary believes Van Dijk is the greatest centre back since Vincent Kompany, but do Liverpool need to spend big in summer? Next, Daniel Khan sits down with Ruud Van Nistlerooy to talk about Leicester’s difficult position, the standards being set and plans for the future. Elsewhere, we discuss the race for the Champions League spots, looking at Aston Villa’s 4-1 win at home over Newcastle and Olly Watkin’s post-match interview, claiming he was “fuming” to be left on the bench against PSG. Gary and Jonathan both think Forest are the team to miss out on the Champions League for next season. Also, Joe Thomlinson interviews Jurrien Timber about the win over Real Madrid and a personal battle won against Vinicius Jr, and the elite level defence Arsenal have created this season. We then discuss Tottenham, after they’ve reached the Europa League semi-finals. Gary thinks Ange is a man who looks like he’s feeling the pressure and believes a lot of Tottenham fans think he’ll be gone win or lose in the semi-finals. We end with two more interviews; Jamie Carragher sits down with Arne Slot to talk about Salah and Van Dijk’s contract renewals, Trent being back on the pitch, and the title coming to a close. And James Cole chats with Mikel Arteta about defeating Madrid, and carrying form in to the league. It's West v North London on Clash of the Correspondents this week as James is joined by Chelsea fan Gary Mantle and Tottenham Hotspur fan Ricky Saunders to discuss managers, expectations and FPL ahead of next Thursday's GW30 meeting at Stamford Bridge. Both managers are under scrutiny with Chelsea fans seemingly split at the moment on Enzo Maresca, with form inconsistent, and qualification for next season's Champions League in the balance. And is it win the Europa League or bust for Ange Postecoglu? It's beginning to feel like it might be. That makes investment in Tottenham players in FPL awkward with the Europa clearly the priority, but with many FPL managers set to Wildcard in GW31 and with Tottenham then facing Southampton and Wolves is there something that can be punted on? There's coverage of Chelsea assets too, with their next 3 looking good for the potential the attacking players, but Christopher Nkunku remains inconsistent, Nicolas Jackson has been a huge miss, and Cole Palmer hasn't scored since Jackson got injured. Is Palmer's injury and form cause for genuine concern? Arsenal face Manchester United on Sunday, looking to win consecutive away games at Old Trafford for the first time since 1979. This week, Mikel Arteta’s side thumped PSV 7-1 in the Champions League, meaning there will be no distractions as they look to build on an impressive attacking display. After a 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad, Ruben Amorim will not be afforded that luxury. Manchester United’s hopes of silverware and Champions League qualification rest on their Europa League campaign, will the United boss have one eye on Thursday’s second leg? Arsenal writer Art de Roché and Manchester writer Mark Critchley join Adam Leventhal to preview Sunday’s tie. Plus we check in with the club podcasts across The Athletic FC, setting you up for the big fixtures elsewhere. Host: Adam Leventhal With: Art de Roché, Mark Critchley Executive Producer: Adey Moorhead Producer: Jay Beale Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
