We’re so close to football! The Premier League watches on with interest as the Bundesliga returns with potential lessons for our own Project Restart. It could be June, with a list of “cultural changes” implemented. We’re not sure who is implementing them, but there are definitely a few people we’d like to see kept away from that process. There are also rumours, since denied, that Jose Mourinho has been trying to derail the whole thing as he continues his transformation into a Bond villain, Harry Kane being a lovely chap and a desperate plea from a listener who asks the age old question; can I have my ball back? It’s finally here. Sure, one of the biggest derbies in world football will be played out in front of an empty stadium and there’s still the general unease around this era-defining global pandemic, but it’s here. On today’s episode of On The Continent, we preview this weekend’s European football! With the Bundesliga returning on Saturday, Luke Moore and Andy Brassell are here to give you a thorough rundown of the league, including the teams fighting for the title and those hoping to escape relegation. We discuss Bayern’s improvements under Hansi Flick, the exciting look of Bayer Leverkusen and the difficulties in Werder Bremen relying on 41-year-old Claudio Pizarro to save them from relegation. Elsewhere in Europe, we wonder if Ligue 1 really is finished and assess the state of Portuguese football, as it looks set to return in the coming weeks. Fancy getting in touch? Why come to Rooster and the Devil to learn about the Bundesliga when literally every soccer podcast that exists will talk about Bundesliga? Well, you probably shouldn't. The three morons are back at it trying to piece together the Bundesliga while thinking out loud. Somehow it devolves into an all-Premier League conversation by about a half hour in. But, as usual, we had fun and it seems that some of you out there have enough fun to tune in with us every week. Soccer is back!

Rebecca Lowe, Arlo White, Lee Dixon, Graeme Le Saux, Robbie Earle, Robbie Mustoe and Kyle Martino share their opinions on the potential restart of the 2019-20 Premier League season.

We have all the latest on the latest meetings about meetings! To be fair to the Premier League that’s about all they can do at the moment as we seem to be no closer to a concrete plan. That doesn’t matter though, because Louis van Gaal has decided to keep us all entertained by calling Ed Woodward an “evil genius” and “inviting” Jose Mourinho to explain why it only took four days for him to replace him at Man United. There’s a beef stew bubbling away here. In Turkey Besiktas have installed a disinfection cabinet at their training ground and the thing looks like some amazing futuristic tech, so naturally we posit some alternative uses, while we also look forward to the Neville brothers taking each on in some televised garden centre challenge under the new rules and learn that we may be more of an aphrodisiac than we realised. Oh no. We also love Dave Bautista. We just love him and we don’t care who knows it. Luke Moore, Kate Mason and Andy Brassell return for another episode of FRD’s Book Club, this time discussing the definitive historical account of one of world football’s most recognisable clubs: it’s Uli Hesse’s Building the Yellow Wall - The Incredible Rise and Cult Appeal of Borussia Dortmund. Many modern football fans will feel a connection to the German side due to its recent continental successes and fevered match day atmosphere. But, in looking at the club’s history more thoroughly, Hesse’s love letter to his boyhood club presents a more varied backstory. We discuss how Dortmund are placed in the wider context of German football, the fans’ relationship with Jürgen Klopp, and just how close this Bundesliga giant has come to falling away altogether. On today’s episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard, Japanese football journalist Shinobu Yamanaka joins us to discuss a landmark match for his nation at the 2010 World Cup! Japan took the most talented squad they had ever assembled to the previous World Cup in Germany, but didn’t win a match and finished bottom of their group. They returned to the world stage in South Africa and seized their chance to qualify for the Round of 16 with an impressive win over Denmark. We discuss the Japanese public’s perception of this team after their courageous performance, the wizardry of Keisuke Honda and the bewitching - and infuriating - behaviour of that bloody Jabulani football. Football is BACK! In Germany. On May 16th. The Bundesliga have confirmed their plans to resume the competition, not without some controversy, and we’re all looking forward to seeing some live football again. Away from that actual news we have a very salty show today, inspired by Andres Iniesta and his baby-making goal against Chelsea in the Champions League in 2009, which apparently led to a spike in births 9 months later. This week he had video chats with some of those kids. Is that weird? That seems weird. Elsewhere Gary Neville shows that he’s even a tough but balanced pundit when defending his city from disgruntled ex-Man United players’ wives, Alan Pardew reveals his bafflement at Dutch players wanting to know what to do on the pitch and Kuno ‘Santiago Muñez’ Becker wants to right the wrongs of Goal 3. Suj & James take a nostalgic look back at one of the Premier League's most remarkable campaigns when Middlesbrough bought Fabrizio Ravanelli & Emerson to team up with the brilliant Juninho to thrill fans & neutrals alike. Which leads the lads to ask, were Teesiders the best side ever to be relegated...? Ladies and gentlemen, this is not a drill: football is coming back. Well, some of it. Without any fans. On today’s episode of On The Continent, we celebrate the Bundesliga’s upcoming return while acknowledging the need for continued caution. We also speak to FC Union Berlin's Christian Arbeit about how their players reacted to the news and what they've been doing throughout lockdown to best prepare themselves for its return. We also discuss some of Fabio Paratici’s recent thoughts about player salaries and how the football transfer market may change drastically in the coming seasons. The likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona will be desperate for more high-profile transfer activity akin to what we've seen in the last few years, what with their respective selections of high-earning benchwarmers. As plans for the Premier League’s 'Project Restart' gradually take shape, we assess where we are on today’s episode of Jules & Andy. We speak to former Liverpool, Leeds United and Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock about his thoughts on the current situation and why he thinks we shouldn’t be rushing to get this season finished. Then, we discuss Kevin De Bruyne’s fantastic season for Manchester City and whether an upheld European ban might lead the midfielder to move elsewhere. We also how Aldershot Town manager Danny Searle is helping young professionals who may be worried about not getting their contacts renewed amidst the pandemic. With each passing day there are more and more ideas put forward for how to finish the season. This time around we have Neutral Venues With No Relegation and Do it All in Australia! Some are more sensible than others. It’s not just the Premier League that needs finishing though. What of the FA Cup? Pete reiterates that Newcastle United have scored the most goals so far - because of their replays against lower league opposition - so should probably win it. We’ve got lots more than that though, we’ve got a Dennis Bergkamp fronted consortium sniffing around clubs, we’ve got Jim’s surprising court appearances, Pete “Every day is Tyskie day” Donaldson’s birthday, Luke’s golf insight, some utter filth from Barry Davies, a plea to unify Mother’s Day and the latest entry into Pete’s Film Club.
