On the 30th anniversary of Euro '96, the author Richard Chamberlain provides us with a telling reminder that there was more to this tournament that a homecoming from the sporting wilderness and an internal feel-good summer. The inside story on all the participants can be found in his new book which is out later this year. He talks to us about the project as a whole, the resonance in a post-Southgate era and how you can get involved. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thetrawler/euro-96-the-full-story?ref=discovery&total_hits=346&category_id=48 If you want weekly exclusive bonus shows, join our Nessun Dorma community chat, want your episodes without ads and a couple of days earlier or just want to support the podcast, then head over to patreon.com/NessunDormaPodcast where you can subscribe for only $3.99 a month (less than 75p a week!). In an effort to become podcasting's version of UK Gold, we're spinning it back and replaying the glory days of QK, every Tuesday and Thursday. This is: QK Reloaded. We'll be playing through our original episodes in release order. And this is... Our very own Matt Forde talking about Forest's glorious and inglorious 90s. This episode was first broadcast on the 8th May 2017. --- On the show this week we’ve got comedian and broadcaster, and Nottingham’s own(!), Matt Forde to dissect the fortunes of Nottingham Forest in the 90s. When you think about Forest in the 90s, all the big names echo through the sands of time; Brian and Nigel Clough, Frank Clark, Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Andrea Silenzi, Stuart Pearce, Stan Collymore and Bryan Roy - the list goes on and on. But the one big name ever-present at both the City Ground and the training ground throughout the 90s turns out to be… Matt Forde. Through Matt’s eyes we take a nostalgic tour from Brian Clough in the changing room, to punching Ryan Giggs in the tunnel to being lambasted by Steve Chettle, only to bury the hatchet twenty years later. We also get to find out which 90s track Danny Dichio had managed to steal an exclusive march on, as well as resolving a mystery that has haunted football since time began: what are Nigel Martyn’s top five favourite drinks? Gazzetta Football Italia Special - This episode we take a nostalgic deep dive and look back at arguably the most iconic football show of the 90's. James Richardson in sun light Italian piazza's sharing transfer gossip and team news from the biggest league in the world whilst enjoying ice cream. World class players taking part in hilariously bizarre skits and VT's. The Lombardo/Lambada. Gazza, Platt and Ince as you'd never seen them before. And last but by no means least, the kind of banger of a theme tune that had you running to the living room TV from the opening bar... We loved discussing the show through the prism of these clips and our individual memories and would love to know some of yours below... Get NordVPN 2Y plan + 4 months extra here ➼ https://nordvpn.com/bluemoon - it’s risk-free with Nord’s 30-day money-back guarantee! ========== David Mooney is joined by One Football's Dan Burke and by City fan KC to discuss the fallout from that Manchester Derby. Did the defeat - and the manner of it - cross a line? How much further can the bad form go? We spend the show looking for light relief - and we've done it by slipping back into wistful nostalgia. We hear from the former City midfielder Georgi Kinkladze, as he speaks to the show about his three seasons at Maine Road. With Aston Villa and Everton on the horizon, we hear from Frankie Maguire from All Villa No Filler and from Dave Downie from The Blue Room, who both explain how their seasons have been going to this point. Can City stop the rot or are they basically limping along until the January transfer window? Plus, with an idea shamelessly stolen from a bigger podcast, who is the best City player from several different (recent) eras of the club? We discuss the candidates for each period, going back to the promotions in 1999 and 2000. ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. Is that… a half fit Harry Kane trundling up the pitch? Oh YES! International football is back and England face Greece tonight! Marcus, Pete and Andy celebrate with wedding cake in the post (Marcus wishes), a sprinkling of David Beckham nostalgia, and some angry reviews of Andrés Iniesta’s vineyard to finish. Plus, Pete’s verdict on some wild fits in the French squad. Better than Harry Maguire’s ‘man accused of insider training’ chic, I suppose. Come join us! Everything. Everyone. Everywhere. Ends... Dear Quickly Kevin fans, It is with a mix of nostalgia, gratitude and a deep re-evaluation of Peter Schmeichel’s goalkeeping ability with regard to lobs, that we announce the end of an era after 6.5 years and (what will be) 14 series a hobby that got way out of control. The rumours are true, after this next run of episodes, QK will be no more. The journey has been nothing short of amazing; we’ve had laughter, insightful discussions, read some intriguing murder mystery novels and shared our love for the beautiful game across a very specific time period. We want to express our deepest thanks to each and every one of you who joined us on this ride, contributing to the sense of community that made Quickly Kevin truly special. As we bid farewell, we reflect on the countless memories created together and will always be wondering how much Efan Ekoku likes Drifter bars. This chapter will close with one final series and one final Quickly Kevin live show; at the London Palladium on Thursday 16th May. We hope to see as many of you there as possible as we bid farewell to the decade that may well have been the best ever. Joining us on today’s episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard, is The Independent’s Vithushan Ehantharajah! His chose today's game based on pure, glorious nostalgia: Liverpool 2-1 Arsenal from 2004. This game, with its mix of technical ability and unrelenting pace, was a tremendous advert for the Premier League. Arsenal’s performances were beginning to falter after coming off their invincible season, though this was still only their second defeat in 55 league matches. The goal they did score, a truly glorious one, served as a fleeting mirage of that previous Arsenal. Their opponents came flying out the traps, with Xabi Alonso particularly impressive, and played their part in a classic Premier League affair. And it was all rounded off by Neil Mellor’s astonishing goal deep into injury time! Fancy getting in touch? Email us at [email protected] or find us social media— just search 'Football Ramble Daily'. Wayne Rooney returned to Everton over the summer amid much nostalgia. The greatest English striker of the last 25 years...

Joe Devine is joined by Iain Macintosh & Paul Ansorge to discuss the role of nostalgia in football; does nostalgia fuel adults' enjoyment of the game, or is it not all about memory and childhood? There's no solid answers to this one, but there's plenty to discuss. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
On the show this week we’ve got comedian and broadcaster, and Nottingham’s own(!), Matt Forde to dissect the fortunes of Nottingham Forest in the 90s.
