Proper Calcio Weather

A little later than usual, but recorded just before the wild Manchester United v Bournemouth game (sorry!), Musa and Ryan quickly round-up some big results from the weekend around Europe (03:24), including the Premier League, Real Madrid getting back to winning ways, St. Pauli getting their first Bundesliga since September and much more. Then it’s onto the trip from this weekend (17:11), where they visited Venezia for their win over Monza and then San Siro for Milan’s draw against Sassuolo. It was the first time that Musa and Ryan had visited both the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo and San Siro, so they chat about the uniqueness of both, the contrasting surroundings and how overwhelming it can be to visit an iconic stadium for the first time. Ruben Amorim lost his first Manchester derby on the weekend, to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, and there were more questions for the United manager, who has had an underwhelming start to the season. Musa and Ryan chat about the game (04:04), plus whether Amorim is giving himself enough of a chance to get United into a position to implement his system properly, before a quick round-up of the rest of the Premier League, including another late win for Liverpool (24:48). Next it’s onto the brilliant derby d’Italia, which saw Juventus win it late, 4-3 against Inter (32:09), plus St. Pauli’s best start to a Bundesliga season ever (40:21), while Bayern maintain their 100% record and, in Spain, Barcelona put six past Valencia, despite a late relocation for the game and Thomas Müller is having fun in Vancouver. An incredible Serie A title race, while Real close the gap on Barca

Jimbo’s got Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford-Bloor, Pol Ballús and James Horncastle alongside him for a deep dive into a fascinating weekend of action across the continent. It’s fair to say the Serie A title race is hotting up, with just two points separating Napoli in first and Juventus in sixth! That’s after Inter and Napoli shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the San Siro, while Atalanta, Fiorentina, Lazio and Juve all picked up big wins. Real Madrid clawed back some ground in the La Liga title race after their 4-0 win over Osasuna which included a hat-trick for Vinicius, a first goal of the season for Jude Bellingham - and a devastating injury for Eder Militao. They’re now six points behind Barcelona with a game in hand after Hansi Flick’s side fell to only their second league defeat of the season at Real Sociedad in controversial circumstances... Bayern Munich find themselves five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table after their 1-0 win over St Pauli courtesy of Jamal Musiala's sensational strike. Meanwhile, Dortmund’s horror start to the season rumbled on with a 3-1 defeat at Mainz - and Leverkusen’s week to forget continued as they were held by Bochum. And in Ligue 1, it’s business as usual for PSG who continued their unbeaten start to the season in a 4-2 win over Angers. Not such smooth sailing for Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille, beaten 3-1 by newly promoted Auxerre at the Velodrome which prompted the former Brighton boss to say he’ll ‘leave the money and hand back my contract’. *** We’ve been nominated for Podcast of the Year at the 2024 Football Supporters’ Association Awards! All Square in Madrid and Munich … but Not in Manchester

Musa and Ryan begin with the Madrid derby (02.50), where Atleti salvaged a late draw against Real in a disrupted match at the Metropolitano. Meanwhile, Barcelona lost to a brilliant Osasuna side (17:39) and Mallorca climbed to fifth in La Liga. Honours were also even in the big match in the Bundesliga, despite Bayern’s dominance of Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena (24:48), where there were two brilliant goals. Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, St. Pauli secured a first win of the season, Dortmund came from behind to beat Bochum and Heidenheim continue to impress. Finally, they head to the Premier League, where Cole Palmer became the first player to score four goals in the first half of a match (36:45) and Spurs impressed at Old Trafford, winning 3-0 to heap more pressure on Erik ten Hag.
