Magic Monday | Planet #FPL Do The Euros | Ep. 17

How do you break down one of the most dramatic days of football in memory? Suj and James do their best to analyse a Magic Monday of Monday at The Euros as Croatia gave Spain a mighty fright in Copenhagen and Switzerland stunned the World Champions, overcoming a 3-1 deficit to beat France on penalties. Reduced to a screaming seven-year-old

Jimbo, Carl Anka and Daniel Storey try and make sense of quite possibly the greatest day of tournament football ever. Switzerland knock out world champions France on penalties after a 3-3 draw in Bucharest. We try to explain the magnificence of Xhaka and Pogba. And would France have fared better with Laporte? Speaking of Laporte, his Spanish side beat Croatia 5-3 after extra time. How to explain a free-scoring team with a struggling striker? England and Germany face off at Wembley on Tuesday. Raphael Honigstein tells us why he’s worried about German improv up against a heavily rehearsed England. Plus Sweden Ukraine, Dutch despair from 2000 and attempting to explain the own goal epidemic. REACTION: England Beat Czechs, Top Group D

Dan Bardell reunites the Sunday night England Show podcast team of Flo Lloyd-Hughes and Carl Anka to review another 1-0 win for England. Gareth Southgate's side finished top of Group D with seven points and three clean sheets. Jordan Henderson and Harry Maguire got valuable match minutes, and surprise starter Bukayo Saka gave an excellent performance. Yet, there were still moans. It wasn't the most eventful second half, and Harry Kane looked a little sluggish again. So, have we got what it takes to beat France, Germany, or Portugal? Hosted on Acast. We ask The Athletic's Jordan Campbell who's live at Hampden for his reflections on a heartbreaking night for the Tartan Army. More positive scenes over at Wembley though, well for 12 minutes anyway, as Sterling netted again and England top the group and look at facing, erm, France/Germany/Portugal/Hungary! Also, Germany's bounce-back against the title-holders, and the sad loss of a legend of social media. Shortly after the game, it was announced that Philippe Vignolo - @Philousports on Twitter - had died of a heart attack. It's a measure of his 'petite notorieté' (his words) that this was announced mid-match by Omar da Fonseca on live TV, various France players paid homage to him just hours after they had got off the pitch, and the French press, sporting and not, have published tributes. Hungary cause their own upset by holding world champions France in Budapest. Should Les Bleus be concerned about the lack of goals from Karim Benzema? Speaking of a lack of goals, Spain toil to another draw, this time with Poland. Alvaro Romeo identifies the reasons behind their struggles. From the weather to fan apathy. Group A concludes on Sunday with Wales travelling to Rome to face Italy and confirm their place in the next round. Will the likes of Ramsey, Bale and Ward impress again? Plus Seaman’s laugh, Foden’s flick, and Sousa’s fashion faux-pas. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1a: Germany 4-1 Portugal with David Novo (03m 00s) • PART 1b: Hungary 1-1 France (15m 00s) • PART 2: Spain 1-1 Poland with Alvaro Romeo (24m 00s) • PART 3: Previewing the conclusion of Group A (34m 00s) • PART 4: The odds with Paddy Power (43m 00s) • PART 5: Who will be this tournament’s Panenka? Lucky for big blokes

Matt Davies-Adams, Duncan Alexander and Daniel Storey react to one of the most anticipated days of Euro 2020 so far. Scotland take a point from Wembley as Steve Clarke’s bold selection pays off. Has Gareth Southgate been spooked by the anonymous Harry Kane? And is there much point in lionising Grealish when England function best as a team? Group F on Saturday offers mouth-watering clashes between Hungary and France and Portugal up against Germany. Raphael Honigstein gives us his thoughts on what Jogi Low’s tactical approach should be against the holders. Spain take on Poland where it’s Morata v Lewandowski – equals when it comes to international tournaments. And not in a good way. Plus Blackburn’s Ben Brereton bags in the Copa America. And Duncan’s favourite thing about Jan Koller. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: England 0-0 Scotland (02m 30s) • PART 2a: Croatia 1-1 Czech Republic (14m 30s) • PART 2b: Sweden 1-0 Slovakia (18m 45s) • PART 3a: Portugal v Germany preview with Raphael Honigstein (22m 30s) • PART 3b: Hungary v France preview (32m 00s) • PART 3c: Spain v Poland preview (34m 30s) • PART 4: The odds with Paddy Power (37m 45s) • PART 5: On This Day and Big Ben Brereton (39m 30s) SIGN UP TO THE ATHLETIC FOR £1 A MONTH FOR YOUR FIRST 6 MONTHS: • theathletic.com/totally GET IN TOUCH: • follow us on Instagram • find us on Facebook • send us a tweet: @TheTotallyShow PARISH NOTICES: • we’re sponsored by Paddy Power - home of the Money Back Special READ STUFF ON OUR WEBSITE: • check out thetotallyfootballshow.com. Matt Davies-Adams, Adam Crafton and Tom Williams react to a certain CR7's latest records and our first heavy weight fight. Tuesday night brought us the good, the bad, and the possibly ugly as France beat Germany 1-0. We ask is this France instilling fear? Did Germany deserve a draw? And did Rudiger have a little nibble? Speaking of bites, over in Hungary our early evening entertainment, well it didn't get going until 80 minutes in but not even the clock can beat Cristiano Ronaldo from breaking records. Onto the next round then and it's all eyes on Italy who have really set a marker. Up next for them Switzerland who inspire an Orson Welles quote. On the other side of the table it's the slightly more disappointing Wales and Turkey who face off. And finally we finish with the Finnish as they take on Russia. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: France 1-0 Germany (02m 30s) • PART 2a: Hungary 0-3 Portugal (13m 00s) • PART 3a: Turkey v Wales preview with Yordi Yamali (21m 30s) • PART 3b: Italy v Switzerland preview with James Horncastle (32m 00s) • PART 3c: Finland v Russia preview (36m 30s) • PART 4: The odds with Paddy Power (40m 30s) • PART 5a: On This Day – France secure their place in the knockout round of Euro 2000 (42m 50s) • PART 5b: Rash Predictions (47m 00s) SIGN UP TO THE ATHLETIC FOR £1 A MONTH FOR YOUR FIRST 6 MONTHS: • theathletic.com/totally GET IN TOUCH: • follow us on Instagram • find us on Facebook • send us a tweet: @TheTotallyShow PARISH NOTICES: • we’re sponsored by Paddy Power - home of the Money Back Special READ STUFF ON OUR WEBSITE: • check out thetotallyfootballshow.com. France, Germany, Portugal and Jeopardy

It was Group of Death day at the Euros on Tuesday, with Portugal taking on Hungary and a mighty clash between France and Germany. The Tifo team analyse the interesting themes of the day. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Binary solo

Matt Davies-Adams, Duncan Alexander and Dom Fifield react to a day of record-breaking goals and record-breaking passes at Euro 2020. The Tartan Army’s return to tournament football is an unhappy one as Patrick Schick inspires Czech Republic to victory from the halfway line. Did Scotland prove they are genuinely unlucky? Or are they just not clinical enough? Sweden channel their inner Palace to stifle Spain and draw 0-0 in Seville. Alexander Isak looks the real deal, Alvaro Morata – not so much. Slovakia overcome Poland who continue to struggle for goals at major tournaments, even with Lewandowski. France face Germany on Tuesday – with the Mbappe Giroud spat stealing focus, is there a chance Les Bleus could implode? And Hungary will face Portugal in front of 60,000 fans in Budapest. Tomasz Mortimer tells us how far the national side have come in a short period of time. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Scotland 0-2 Czech Republic (04m 30s) • PART 2a: Spain 0-0 Sweden (14m 00s) • PART 2b: Poland 1-2 Slovakia (20m 00s) • PART 3a: France v Germany preview (26m 30s) • PART 3b: Hungary v Portugal preview with Tomasz Mortimer (32m 00s) • PART 4: The odds with Paddy Power (42m 30s) • PART 5: On This Day – England 2-0 Scotland (44m 30s) SIGN UP TO THE ATHLETIC FOR £1 A MONTH FOR YOUR FIRST 6 MONTHS: • theathletic.com/totally GET IN TOUCH: • follow us on Instagram • find us on Facebook • send us a tweet: @TheTotallyShow PARISH NOTICES: • we’re sponsored by Paddy Power - home of the Money Back Special READ STUFF ON OUR WEBSITE: • check out thetotallyfootballshow.com.
