It's time for The Truth! Sam and Dougie are back in the studio to take a look at a number of big stars and stalwarts who are departing their clubs this summer after long and/or storied periods of service, and how these clubs set about replacing them - either like for like, or in a different area of the pitch. We take a look at the imminent (either confirmed or highly speculated) departures of Mohamed Salah from Liverpool, Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, Casemiro from Manchester United, Bernardo Silva from Manchester City, and Robert Lewandowski from Barcelona; and set about trying to find ways for each club to go about the rebuilding process - either upon the departure of a genuine club legend, or someone who has made an immeasurable impact in a shorter space of time. So, do you need to find the perfect replacement to fill the massive boots left behind? Or is it a case of strengthening around the rest of the team to find the answer in the aggregate? As ever, The Truth is somewhere in the middle... It was a terminal week for Manchester City's Champions League hopes, with elimination at the hands of Real Madrid (including the hand of Bernardo Silva if we're being strictly accurate about it all). Meanwhile, the team's hopes of winning the Premier League title were dealt a blow after they failed to keep pace with leaders Arsenal with a 1-1 draw at West Ham. David Mooney is joined by City fans James Faulkner and, from the MCFC Lads podcast and social pages, Luke Stanley. They discuss the performances and the results this week... because there is a difference in how each is perceived... and they look ahead to what will undoubtedly be a tough test against Arsenal in the League Cup final on Sunday. Arsenal fan Michael Keshani returns to the show to give his thoughts on how Mikel Arteta's side are playing. Are they as good as previous Arsenal teams and are they even good to watch? We get into the narratives around the league leaders, plus look at how Sunday's final could impact the remainder of the title race, however unlikely it is that City close the gap at this stage. On top of all of that, we've roped in Chris Higginbottom and, from the City Ramble podcast, Amos Murphy to discuss City's best fluked goals. That's after Bernardo admitted that his strike at the London Stadium wasn't quite as intentional as it might have been. ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. Hello Rank Squad! It's the first Champions League Takeaway of the week, looking back at Tuesday's action from the Second Legs of the Round of 16 - where our first four quarter finalists booked their spots in the last eight. We start at the Etihad, where despite a brave performance from 10-man Manchester City following Bernardo Silva's red card, Real Madrid proved too much to handle to see them off 5-1 on aggregate. Some positives for City to take ahead of the Carabao Cup final at the weekend, but perhaps more intriguing is the way Real Madrid look genuinely like they've worked out a system that minimises their weaknesses and gives them a sturdier platform on which the stars can shine. Reigning Champions PSG also had an excellent night at the Bridge, finishing Chelsea off with a 3-0 win on the night in West London, which equalled the Blues' worst aggregate defeat ever in the Champions League - 8-2. This was a chastening night for Chelsea and Liam Rosenior, who never really looked like even beginning a comeback, and the meek nature of the defeat might well have just turned an already angry fanbase into an apathetic one. That's a very, very bad sign. In Part Two we head first to the Emirates, where Arsenal put in a very impressive performance to overcome Leverkusen 2-0, with Ebere Eze and Declan Rice providing two wonderful goals, and we examine their chances of genuinely putting up a fight for a quadruple where they're now favourites in every competition; and finally to Lisbon for the game of the night, where Sporting put together the perfect Champions League comeback to end the Bodø/Glimt fairytale in an absolute avalanche of emotion and attacking football at the Jose Alvalade. After a hard-fought victory against Newcastle, the top of the Premier League table is very interesting. David Mooney is joined by City fan Chris Higginbottom and former City goalkeeper Andie Worrall to discuss what happened in Saturday's 2-1 win and where it's left the title race after Arsenal also responded in the North London Derby. What about City's style change this season too? We hear from Pep Guardiola, Pep Lijnders and Bernardo Silva as we look at how City are coping with a more physical and more direct Premier League. What principles have changed to get to this current incarnation of City and what still remains from before? Calum Archibald, who contributes to The Square Ball, joins the show to speak about the mood at Leeds right now... and how their trip to the Etihad earlier in the season has changed their fortunes. Plus, we catch up with journalist and Forest fan Nick Miller to find out what on earth is going on at The City Ground, as yet another manager brings Forest to Eastlands in midweek. ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. “Savinho Steals the Show! Man City Outclass Villarreal in Europe 💙” The Blue Moon Botcast is back — and the vibes are immaculate! 💙 Manchester City made it look easy once again in the Champions League, cruising past Villarreal 2–0 at the Etihad. Pep Guardiola’s side stay unbeaten in the group, sitting on seven points from three games — and there were plenty of talking points from this one! Rico Lewis and Savinho absolutely ran the show in the first half, combining for the opening goal — with Erling Haaland (obviously!) on hand to score for a 12th consecutive game. The man’s a machine. Then, just when you thought he’d bag all the goals again, Bernardo Silva popped up with a header from another brilliant Savinho cross. In the second half, Donnarumma pulled off some key saves to keep the clean sheet intact, and Pep’s rotation plan paid off perfectly. We’re talking tactical tweaks, standout performances, and that unstoppable City rhythm we all love. 🎙️ In this episode, we break down Player ratings and fan takes: Donnarumma – 8: Rock solid. Made a huge save in the second half and stayed switched on all night. Nunes – 8: Excellent down the flank, linked up beautifully with Lewis and Savinho early on. Dias – 7: Got booked harshly, but handled their forwards with ease. Stones – 7: Just pure class. That midfield drift? He makes it look effortless. Gvardiol – 6: A couple of sloppy moments — Pep wasn’t happy — but he’ll shake it off. Gonzalez – 7: Looked sharp, great awareness. Shame he had to hobble off. Bernardo Silva – 8: Scored and isn’t named Haaland! Worked hard at both ends. Rico Lewis – 7: Outstanding first half, faded a bit later, but still so influential. Savinho – 8: What a performance. Two assists, full of energy — electric. Doku – 6: Not quite his night. Missed an early chance and couldn’t get going. Haaland – 8: Another game, another goal. The guy’s on fire — unstoppable right now. Subs: Kovacic (for Gonzalez, 57’) – 7: Played some delicious passes through to Haaland. Reijnders (for Lewis, 72’) – 6: Loves to drive forward, maybe a bit too much sometimes. Bobb (for Doku, 72’) – 6: Didn’t have long to make an impact. 💬 Drop your thoughts in the comments: Who was your Man of the Match — Haaland, Savinho, or maybe Donnarumma for that clutch save?
