Dan Bardell welcomes Florence Lloyd-Hughes and David Preece to the show for reaction to England's last warm-up fixture before the belated 2020 European Championships. It was another 1-0 win and it had plenty more in common with the Austria game as Gareth Southgate selected a side featuring mostly fringe squad players, some who won't make the final 26, but at least one who will. James Ward-Prowse will hope to take the spot vacated by Trent Alexander Arnold but Ben White could be a dark horse with Harry Maguire's fitness still a doubt. Jack Grealish has started the last two friendlies, providing dynamism and a cutting edge, and he is fancied by some to make the starting XI against Croatia. Sam Johnstone almost certainly won't feature, but he will be a reassuringly solid third choice between the sticks. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Meanwhile did Jack Grealish & Jude Bellingham make strong cases to start at the Euros & are we edging closer to a back three to start at Wembley against Croatia? Hosted on Acast. Seb Stafford-Bloor is joined by Rob McDonald, Adam Bushby and Brooks Peck to discuss football’s nearly men... Rob and Adam have a new book, 'From the Jaws of Victory - A History of Football’s Nearly Men'. It is packed full of anecdotes and tales of teams who so nearly tasted victory, including a chapter on Ghana’s 2010 World Cup heartbreak by The Athletic’s Brooks Peck. The quartet talk about their own footballing heartbreak, why we seem to remember those gut-wrenching moments most vividly, and whether we’ll look back on Liverpool’s 2013/14 season in the same way we look back on England ‘96.
