Series 3 begins with one of the central protagonists in the cast of 90's football; James Richardson. Synonymous with a golden period of Calcio, the sight of James holding aloft a pink paper on Football Italia was as regular an occurrence as a Baggio goal. We get the gossip on all the big topics; did Paul Ince ring James up for tips on Tomb Raider? What was Elvis Costello like? And did James ever have a night out with Gazza and Jimmy Five Bellies? We’ve also got big updates on both James Beattie’s Latin textbook and Lee Sharpe’s infamous fan club. Today we're joined by author Tony Evans about his book Two Tribes: Liverpool, Everton and a City on the Brink which comes out March 22. A little bit about Tony, he has written several books about Liverpool and was previously the football editor of The Times. He now regularly contributes to ESPNFC and the Evening Standard. In this episode, he examines the dark days of the 80's through the lens of Heysel and the 1985-1986 season. Specifically, we discuss hooliganism, TV blackouts, and how football reflected the political culture of the time. On the show this week we’ve got comedian and broadcaster, and Nottingham’s own(!), Matt Forde to dissect the fortunes of Nottingham Forest in the 90s. When you think about Forest in the 90s, all the big names echo through the sands of time; Brian and Nigel Clough, Frank Clark, Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Andrea Silenzi, Stuart Pearce, Stan Collymore and Bryan Roy - the list goes on and on. But the one big name ever-present at both the City Ground and the training ground throughout the 90s turns out to be… Matt Forde. Through Matt’s eyes we take a nostalgic tour from Brian Clough in the changing room, to punching Ryan Giggs in the tunnel to being lambasted by Steve Chettle, only to bury the hatchet twenty years later. We also get to find out which 90s track Danny Dichio had managed to steal an exclusive march on, as well as resolving a mystery that has haunted football since time began: what are Nigel Martyn’s top five favourite drinks?
