Ramble Reacts: Everton halt Klopp’s last dance

As Liverpool found out, all the romantic farewell narrative in the world can’t stop a freshly tracksuit-bottomed Sean Dyche delivering a hammer blow to your title chances. And what a performance from that new lad, Daniel Calvert-Lewin! Marcus and Luke give their takes on a dismal night for Liverpool which needed a calm slot into the bottom corner, but instead got Darwin Núñez desperately smashing the ball into Jordan Pickford’s meaty thighs. Elsewhere, Erik ten Hag serves up smiley faces covered in chocolate sauce (again), there's an unwelcome reminder of Paul Jewell’s jewel, and we have live reports from Pete Donaldson on Jason Tindall Watch at Selhurst Park. Football recently lost one of its greats. Today, Marcus, Jim, Andy and Vish remember Franz Beckenbauer – a player who reinvented his position and whose name has more significance than almost anyone else in the sport, though not without controversy. The Drop In: David Dein

After the release of his new book, today we're picking the brains of one of the most influential figures of the modern English game. David Dein was a director and major shareholder at Arsenal for 24 years and was a significant voice at the FA for many of them, too. In that time, he brought Arsène Wenger to England, helped assemble one of the greatest sides of all time, and forced through the commercial behemoth that is the Premier League. He’s certainly been at the heart of a lot of change down the years. So today, we’re asking what he makes of the game now: from its owners, to its Super League, to its money. And don't forget the vanishing spray! **You can purchase David's new book, 'Calling the Shots: How to Win in Football and Life', here. All profits go to 'The Twinning Project' charity, which partners prisons with local football clubs to help prisoners' physical and mental wellbeing and overall rehabilitation.** Who would you like Kate to speak to next? S10 EP3: Jarlath Regan / Mick McCarthy's Republic of Ireland

S10 EP3: Jarlath Regan / Mick McCarthy's Republic of Ireland We're joined this week by the comedian, presenter and podcaster - Jarlath Regan. We watch and discuss the superb documentary McCarthy's Park (available on youtube) which takes a look at Mick McCarthy's time in charge of ROI as they try and fail to qualify for the France 1998 World Cup. From the early seeds of troubles with Roy Keane, to hygienic tattoo parlours via some early (but not very effective) video analysis from Mick and his team over a few beers. It's a brilliant watch. And a different time. Elsewhere in the postbag we discuss Peter Shilton's tiny hands. George Weah as Prime Minister of Liberia, and players wearing the wrong shirts. Enjoy! Jarlath's brilliant podcast 'An Irishman Abroad' is available wherever you get your podcasts and the book he mentions 'Champagne Football' by Mark Tighe + Paul Rowan is well worth a read. Lee Dixon - S03 E02

Series 3 - Episode 2 - Lee Dixon In terms of value for money, there can be few more astute signings than the £375,000 George Graham paid Stoke City for Lee Dixon in January 1988. 25% of arguably the greatest 90s defence, Lee finished his Arsenal career with four league titles, three FA Cup winners medals, a UEFA Cup Winner's Cup medal and infamously a runners-up medal in the latter competition too. But it was the first of his league championship medals that intrigued us most; the night of 26th May 1989, Liverpool v Arsenal - a championship play off in the last game of the season. For a whole host of reasons, from Fever Pitch to the ramifications of the Hillsborough disaster, the 1988/89 season marked the end of football as it had largely been for 100 years. And in it's culmination, Michael Thomas' last minute winner didn't just cement the league for Arsenal, it also cemented the idea of live football as a major box office draw, with the dawn of the Premier League coming soon after. We put all of this to Lee. Plus... we speculate as to whether Sean Dyche eats worms.
