Doing a job on Chris Wilder & goalkeepers just booting it upfield, with Bryan's Gunn

The pod welcomes the content-creating genius that is Bryan's Gunn - aka Will Powell - for the latest edition of Mesut Haaland Dicks, as he chooses his six personal fascinations and irritations of football. Among Will's selections are foreign managers picking up English footballing jargon, Chris Wilder's go-to catchprase, the near-extinct art of goalkeepers just booting the ball upfield, and unnecessary modernisation of the FA Cup draw procedure. Meanwhile, the Adjudication Panel decide how many players constitutes a team "flooding forward" and enjoy some accidentally musical South American commentary. City Stories Extended | The Most Viral Moment in City History?

We're bringing you Niall Quinn's extended interview from our first CityStories Episode. You can watch the full feature on City+, now. We're going back to 1991 when a red card for goalkeeper Tony Coton meant striker Niall Quinn was forced to take his place. Up against Derby County who were on the brink of relegation, fan favourite Quinn had already scored an exquisite left-footed volley to give us the lead. However, Derby’s Dean Saunders was soon through on goal before Coton was deemed to have brought him down. With our No.1 given his marching orders and no substitute goalkeeper, Quinn took Coton’s shirt and gloves. The Ireland international’s first duty between the sticks was to face up to the resulting penalty. Incredibly, he saved the shot at full stretch to turn it behind for a corner. It inspired us to a victory on the day and even went some way to earning Quinn the Player of the Year award for that season! We sat with Niall to look back at this incredible moment, his time at The Club and hear his goalkeeping experience before going between the sticks for City. Learn more about your ad choices.
