On Clash of the Correspondents, James is joined by Sunderland fan Spencer Barrowman and Arsenal fan Adam Pritchard to discuss both sides brilliant start to the season, upcoming expectations and the FPL assets we should be considering from both. Will Arsenal ever concede again? They will of course but three goals conceded in 16 games this season and a run of eight in a row without being breached means talk of triple Arsenal defence is worth detailed discussion. It includes whether FPL managers should be concerned about rotation for Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber over the festive period, if David Raya should be an option and the desperation for those without Gabriel to want to get there. But Sunderland's defensive assets have performed well too. Robin Roefs is the highest scoring keeper in the game, there's discussion on Omar Alderete, Nordi Mukiele and Dan Ballard and options further up the pitch in the consistent Granit Xhaka and also Enzo Le Fee and Wilson Isidor. And should Viktor Gyokeres owners sell? Is Mikel Merino worth a short-term punt? Is Leandro Trossard going under the radar? And if Declan Rice can maintain his consistent FPL returns? On Clash of the Correspondents, James is joined by Brighton fan Sam Murray and Newcastle fan Simon Bibby to discuss the latest at their clubs and all the FPL assets from both ahead of their GW8 meeting at The Amex. Brighton remain very Jekyll and Hyde, two wins from seven, and WITH those victories coming against Chelsea and Manchester City seems to sum up where The Seagulls are at. Can they find consistency ahead of a fixture turn that may appeal to Fantasy managers? But can anything be sought bar Yankuba Minteh? Newcastle will also appeal to Fantasy managers, a good long-term run of fixtures has begun for them, the defensive numbers are good and some tough games are out of the way. Dan Burn, Anthony Gordon and Nick Woltemade all feature prominently in the discussion. And so too does the already seismic differences in terms of Fantasy returns for the two goalkeepers. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Fulham fan Lewis James and Crystal Palace fan Ruaidhri McLoughlin-Dowd to discuss the latest at their clubs and some very important FPL assets ahead of Saturday's meeting at Craven Cottage. And by assets that doesn't just mean the players as Eagles boss Oliver Glasner is likely to be popular for Assistant Manager bonus point hunters and for those yet to deploy the Chip again he'll no doubt attract interest around GW32 when Palace double. But he's not been the best performing manager over the last couple of weeks as that honour goes to Saturday's opponent Marco Silva, as Fulham produced outstanding victories against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest that truly has them in contention for European qualification. Plus, those key FPL assets covered including Antonee Robinson, Kenny Tete's longer-term threat to Timothy Castagne; forwards Raul Jimenez and Jean-Phillipe Mateta, Dean Henderson, Ebe Eze, Ismaila Sarr and Daniel Munoz might not be the only Palace wing-back of interest in the weeks to come. On the opening Planet FPL Podcast of 2025 (Happy New Year everyone!) James is joined by Tottenham fan Ricky Saunders and Newcastle fan Simon Bibby to discuss very differing fortunes for the two clubs currently, FPL assets and Saturday's meeting at White Hart Lane. Is Ange Postecoglu losing the faith of Tottenham fans or can the injury crisis defensively be used as an excuse for the run of poor results? Whilst opponents Newcastle are flying. Monday's comfortable victory at Old Trafford means it's four consecutive league wins with none conceded. There's discussion on what Tottenham can do this month to turn their fortunes around; the tactical tweak involving Sandro Tonali that has had a transformative impact for Newcastle; and there's discussion on all the key FPL assets which features the popular Newcastle trio of Lewis Hall, Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak. But is it right to overlook Tottenham assets when they still continue to score regularly? It's another meeting of 'rivals' on Clash of the Correspondents as James is joined by Brighton fan Sam Murray and Crystal Palace fan Ruaidhri McLoughlin-Dowd to discuss the latest at their clubs, expectations, performance and the FPL assets at the clubs ahead of Sunday's meeting at The Amex. Brighton are 7th but it feels like it could have been so much better after a couple of weeks that has included dropped points after being ahead against Southampton and Leicester. Is consistency likely to hold them back in a bid to qualify for Europe. Palace meanwhile are 17th, but of the 6 teams cut adrift at the foot of the table the feeling from most is that they're far better than their placing suggests. it's 1 defeat in in 7, or 1 win in 6, depending on how you want to look at it. Plus there's discussion on FPL assets, with comparisons of players at the clubs, including Dean Henderson v Bart Verbuggen and Kaoru Mitoma v Ebe Eze. There's also focus on Joao Pedro, cheaper midfielders and the best choices from the backlines, with The Seagulls in the middle of a great run, and a positive turn of fixtures is only around the corner for The Eagles. On Clash of the Correspondents it's bottom v top as James welcomes Southampton fan Matt Samuel and Liverpool fan Dan Lord to discuss the latest at their clubs, including the FPL assets of interest ahead of Sunday's meeting at St Mary's. There's discussion on Mo Salah's form and captaining him this weekend, the impact a Diogo Jota return may have in coming weeks, rotation possibilities and best defensive assets, factoring in doubts over the fitness of Trent Alexander-Arnold. Will Tyler Dibling regain his place in the Saints team? Can any of Saints enabling forwards be considered and the case is made for still considering Taylor Harwood-Bellis. Plus, discussion on Liverpool's impressive form and the title race and why some Southampton fans feels they will be better off sticking with Russell Martin for the long-term even though the situation currently looks bleak. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Arsenal fan Adam Pritchard and Nottingham Forest fan Mark Sutherns to discuss the FPL assets at their clubs and the current key talking points ahead of the GW12 meeting between the clubs at The Emirates. And it's two clubs who currently sit inside the top 5 on 19 points. Forest have very much exceeded expectation so far, so is a push for European qualification now a realistic goal? While for Arsenal the gap to leaders Liverpool is already 9 points, how concerning is this or do Arsenal now have a set of fixtures that will make them believe they can close the gap? There's discussion on key attacking Arsenal assets Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, whether double Arsenal defence is the way to go, why Jurrien Timber is likely to attract increased attention and the importance of Martin Odegaard's return. While Forest assets, it now looks tough on the fixture ticker, is talisman Chris Wood now in the sell or avoid zone despite an impressive season? Or should he and a defensive asset, with excellent defensive numbers, still be considered for investment? James is joined on Clash of the Correspondents by Brentford fan Tom Medd and Bournemouth fan Neil Grover to discuss the latest at their clubs, and some key FPL assets from within them ahead of the meeting between them in GW11 at The Gtech, and spoiler, goals are expected. Should goals arrive key talismen Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo are likely to be involved. What are the prospects for these popular FPL assets both in the immediate and for the longer-term? There's also discussion on the best defensive assets from each with Mark Flekken, Sepp Van Den Berg and Milos Kerkez all featuring. Whilst upfront, there is perhaps surprisingly unanimous agreement on which of Evanilson and Yoane Wissa provides the best investment in the forward line for FPL managers. Plus, with Brentford having taken 13 points from 5 home games and Bournemouth off the back of 7 points in 3 consecutive games against Champions League qualifiers the question is posed of how much can these two clubs achieve for the rest of this season. And for one in particular there is a remarkable statistic over the last 38 games. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Wolves fan Bradley Parker and Manchester City fan Jonny Pringle to discuss the latest at their clubs and the FPL assets from within ahead of Sunday's Gameweek 8 meeting at Molineux. It's one point from seven for Wolves and the, pressure is mounting on Gary O'Neil, but have they really been as bad as the results suggest? For City, much of discourse recently has surrounded Pep Guardiola's future, but whether he stays on beyond this season or not, the immediate conundrum is finding solutions to replace the irreplaceable Rodri. Plus, FPL chat includes discussion on Erling Haaland and whether one of the upcoming fixtures (Southampton follows Wolves) look good enough to deploy the Triple Captaincy Chip. And Rico Lewis v Josko Gvardiol is discussed, if FPL managers should take a punt on Phil Foden with enticing fixtures but with Kevin De Bruyne close to a return; while Wolves assets are set appeal too with a brilliant turn of fixtures on the horizon, Ryan Ait-Nouri will attract interest and so to might attackers Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen. On the first of three Clash of the Correspondents during the International break James is joined by Nottingham Forest fan Mark Sutherns and Crystal Palace fan Ruaidhri McLoughlin-Dowd to discuss the latest at their clubs and their FPL assets ahead of the GW8 Monday night meeting at The City Ground. Forest have made an impressive start, having lost only once and remain unbeaten away from home following Sunday's draw at Chelsea, but to flip that they haven't won from home fixtures against Bournemouth, Wolves and Fulham. Are they turning now as hard to beat as Nuno Espirito Santo's use to feel? Meanwhile no one would have expected Palace to remain winless after how well they finished last season, so what's going on? There's discussion on if Oliver Glasner should consider abandoning his back three system and if Palace have recruited in the wrong areas. James is joined by Arsenal fan Adam Pritchard and Leicester City fan Aaron Lagor to discuss the latest at their clubs and their interesting FPL assets ahead of Saturday's Gameweek 6 meeting between the clubs at The Emirates. There's reaction to Arsenal's dramatic draw at Manchester City and their start to the season, the dual for the title and whether The Gunners have really been as good defensively as we all seem to think they have been? While Leicester remain winless, but have been involved in 5 close contests (losing 2) under Steve Cooper. What's the current sentiment to manager Steve Cooper and their hopes for survival in light of the Premier League's failure to make the PSR charge against The Foxes stick? And there's a detailed chat on FPL assets; with many on Wildcard what are the best three Arsenal players to invest in and it should it be double offence or defence? James is joined by Manchester City fan Jonny Pringle and Brentford fan Tom Medd to discuss the latest at their clubs and some very important FPL assets ahead of the club's meeting at The Etihad in Gameweek 4. Erling Haaland looks back to his very best and off the back of two consecutive hat-tricks, there's reflection on if we carried problems through last season and whether he will be the FPL captaincy choice of preference over forthcoming weeks. Kevin De Bruyne is undertaking a new role and also looking back to his best, with Phil Foden absent recently there's focus on him and other Manchester City assets, including the mid price midfielders and the prospects of defensive assets Rico Lewis and Josko Gavrdiol for FPL managers. And Brentford assets should appeal too, they have an amazing fixture run after the trip to City and the likes of Mark Flekken, Sepp Van Den Berg, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa are all subject to scrutiny for FPL managers Tomorrow on Planet FPL: The Clayton & James Show ep.4 Today on Patreon: UCL Fantasy Fixture Analysis & Away Days For the full Planet FPL schedule this week, including our offering on Patreon view this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/schedule-2nd-6th-111255735 Want to become a member of our FPL community and support the Podcast? There's discussion on the two clubs start to the season, with concern for what the reaction may be at United if defeat at Brighton is followed by another loss and how much we can read from Liverpool's opening two wins. There's advice for those on Manchester United assets in FPL including whether Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho should cut their losses and the majority of Liverpool assets can be considered but there is agreement on two standouts, the danger of 'no' Salah and whether there would a preference for double Liverpool attack or defence. The Final Day of Correspondent Week kicks off with Gary Mantle joining James to discuss FPL assets and expectations for Chelsea under new manager Enzo Maresca and a period that should be full of enthusiasm has quickly evaporated due to some chaotic performances in pre-season and further strange transfer dealings. There's conversation on Maresca's intended tactics, what's been going wrong and there's an analysis of the transfer business which continues to leave many Chelsea fans concerned. Plus, Cole Palmer has received the highest ever price rise in FPL after finishing last season as the top points scorer. but currently there are many questions mark as to where exactly he will play in the new system. Therefore should a 4.0 saving be made by investing in Christopher Nkunku? And there's a run through of the squad to see if there are any more FPL assets to consider such as one of the 4.5 defenders, Noni Madueke, or a refreshed Raheem Sterling. But predicting the starting eleven for Gameweek 1 proves a very difficult challenge. At least the fixtures are good... or are they...? Day 4 of Correspondent Week concludes with the team that finished in the Top 4 to secure Champions League football as James is joined by Aston Villa fan Lee Jackson to discuss The Villains fantastic achievement and their FPL assets before the big kick off. Ollie Watkins was phenomenal last season and a Euro Semi Final hero for England. Currently owned by roughly half of FPL managers he's the club's clear talisman. Villa have a challenging opening two so those without may want to add the forward in GW3, but it might not be easy for those who go without it might not be so easy to bring him in without a Wildcard. Leon Bailey also had a great season and at 6.5 will appeal, particularly for those without Watkins, but with UCL football to look forward to how reliable will his minutes be? And might Morgan Rogers, currently the only 5.0 midfielder owned by over 3% of managers be the better way to cover some of the Villa attack? There's also assessment of Villa's defensive assets including Ezri Konsa and Ian Maatsen and an assessment of the club's summer transfer business. Which as been, interesting. The club is making moves in the transfer market too, there's discussion on those already signed like Crysencio Summerville and those set to follow such as Niclas Füllkrug. Jarrod Bowen (7.5) and Mohammed Kudus (6.5) are assessed and compared, there's the latest on Lucas Paqueta's off field situation and why he may have a deeper role in the team this season. On the first of two Clash of the Correspondents this week James is joined by Brighton fan Sam Murray and Manchester City fan Jonny Pringle to discuss the latest at their clubs and the FPL assets of interest ahead of Thursday's meeting between the two clubs. Have Brighton stalled this season? Can they trouble City with a 12 day period to prepare? And how strong is concern that Roberto De Zerbi may move on in the summer? Man City have it in their own hands to claim the title again, but are they as strong now as they have been during previous title run-ins? Plus all the key FPL assets discussed from City, featuring concerns over Erling Haaland's form, Foden v De Bruyne, if Ederson can be relied on and best defensive assets. On this week's Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Tottenham fan Ricky Saunders and Crystal Palace fan Ruaidhri McLaughlin-Dowd to discuss the latest at their clubs, the FPL assets of interest and preview Saturday's Gameweek 27 meeting at White Hart Lane. Champions League qualification now looks a realistic possibility for Tottenham, particularly if 5th is enough, but are recent performances/results and the amount of big chances being conceded causing too much alarm? While it's all change at Selhurst Park, with reflection on Roy Hodson's career and management of Palace and an introduction to new manager Oliver Glasner with detail of what we can expect from the Austrian manager. Plus, there's a big debate on Heung-Min Son v Richarlison with many tempted by investing in a Tottenham attacker this week, if Destiny Udogie is worth the saving over Pedro Porro (if both are passed fit) defensively, the impact of a likely return of Ebe Eze for Palace and whether we can expect 3.9 defender Chris Richards to keep his place in the Palace backline when Marc Guehi returns. On Clash of the Correspondents is James is joined by Manchester United fan Gary Robinson and Fulham fan Dara Curran to discuss the latest at their clubs ahead of Saturday's Blank Gameweek 26 meeting between the clubs at Old Trafford. It's 4 wins on the spin for United in the Premier League including 3 hard fought away victories and they are back in contention for Champions League qualification. But are they actually convincing anyone that they've truly turned the corner? Are Fulham truly safe from overlooking their shoulder? They should be, but their away form is terrible and have tough home fixtures to come and will have to cope for the next 2 games without the instrumental Joao Palhinha who is suspended. Plus, there's discussion on the best FPL assets from above. Rasmus Hojlund is in great goalscoring form while enabling Fulham forward Rodrigo Muniz is also on a streak. But can FPL managers find a way to fit either forward in? There's also discussion on the keepers who are among the highest scoring in FPL this season, best defensive assets from above and if any of the differential midfield options can be considered including an ever improving Alejandro Garnacho. And somehow, this Podcast survives two power cuts to reach a conclusion. On the first of two Clash of the Correspondents this week James is joined by Nottingham Forest fan Mark Sutherns and Arsenal fan Adam Pritchard to discuss the latest at their clubs, the FPL assets of interest and preview next Tuesday's meeting at The City Ground. It's been an eventful period for Forest with Steve Cooper departing and replaced by Nuno Espirito Santo and there was immediate upturn in results, but now the threat of a points deduction is very real having fallen foul of the PSR. There's discussion on what a big deduction would mean for Forest and who's to blame for the situation they have found themselves in. While for Arsenal they were back to winning ways on Saturday with a comfortable 5-0 victory against Crystal Palace, which followed 3 straight defeats. Are Arsenal still capable of clawing back their deficit to Liverpool and maintaining a title challenge? Plus, there's a detailed chat on Bukayo Saka following his blank at the weekend, if Gabriel after his haul is the obvious go-to Arsenal defensive asset on if the longer-term there should be concern and there's chat on Forest assets too include Chris Wood, Anthony Elanga and why the goalkeeper situation continues to cause concern. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Fulham fan Dara Curran and Wolves fan Bradley Parker to discuss all the latest at their clubs and why Fantasy Managers should give both clubs a second look ahead of the Monday Night Football at Craven Cottage. It's only 1 win in 7 for Fulham and scoring goals continues to prove a problem. What are the solutions and best options? Meanwhile it's only 1 defeat in 7 for Wolves and the mood has changed for the positive under Gary O'Neil. What can be achieved this season? Plus, discussion on FPL assets and why the need for cover in this week and gameweeks 15, 16 & 18 means both clubs should be worth a second look, particularly defensively. There was some concern for The Bees, but before Sunday's defeat at Anfield three straight wins lifted The Bees to a position of safety that we would expect. But there are concerns in the full-back areas that Arsenal's wide players may take advantage of. And have Arsenal become 'boring' in their pursuit of the Premier League title? James is joined by Bournemouth fan Neil Grover and Arsenal fan Adam Pritchard to discuss the latest at their clubs and the FPL assets within them in the first of two Clash of the Correspondents this week. The Cherries remain winless under Andoni Iraola but they've had a tough run of fixtures and have only lost to teams within the current top 4. Is there case for optimism still on the South Coast ahead of a kinder run of fixtures after Arsenal? Arsenal remain unbeaten but there appears some cause for concern amongst some recent injury concerns and an absence for Declan Rice would lead to potentially significant alarm. And do they need a no 9? Plus, all the key FPL assets discussed including best Bournemouth options that may enable investment in Liverpool, Bukayo Saka and if he'll ever get a rest, if Gabriel should be back on radar and more... The Hatters will have waited 13 days for this following the opening weekend defeat at Brighton. Are The Hatters likely to try and frustrate on Friday or can they view the game as a free hit with their own brilliant fixture run set to start in GW4? The Championship Champions are next up on Correspondent Week and the expectation is The Clarets are strongest of the three promoted teams. Jack Toner joins James discuss Vincent Kompany, total football and an overview of the squad and the FPL assets at Turf Moor. The Blank Gameweek 2 doesn’t help when trying to select Burnley players for FPL but there are some enablers who definitely deserve consideration. That includes a number of 4.0 defenders, in fact Jack details that as many as three could well start the opener against Manchester City. Jordan Beyer is comfortably the most owned, is he the best choice? Who’s likely to start up front? Could Wout Weghorst be reintegrated into the team? Plus players to watch, likely starting eleven, why further investment is both needed and expected and a tactical discussion suggests Burnley might on occasion play a back five. When does the season hold in store for Newcastle following qualification for the Champions League. Simon Bibby joins James to talk all things Newcastle including all the potential FPL assets. It’s a tough opening for The Toon; Villa, Man City, Liverpool and Brighton is the opening 4, and so many want to treat Newcastle as a watch and wait, but Kieran Trippier and Sven Botman’s ownership suggest otherwise. Are the defensive pair worth having or are they like to bleed value? There’s discussion on new signings Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes, increasing depth in the squad could mean more rotation but there is concern about depth defensively. Plus, who’s likely to start out of Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson? And Si and James agree on the Newcastle asset they are most likely to pick in FPL… and the answer may surprise. (we find out it's complicated!) and what about the prospects for Leon Bailey and Emi Buendia? While Bournemouth shouldn't be overlooked neccessarily either, Philip Billing is on a fine run of form and there's a strong case made for Neto, Dango Outtara and Dominic Solanke who could all offer solutions, particularly for those looking to Bench Boost in GW29.
