Paul Machin and Ste Hoare give their take on the big stories surrounding LFC this week, including who will step up at right-back for the next few games in the absence of Joe Gomez. Series 3 - Episode 2 - Lee Dixon In terms of value for money, there can be few more astute signings than the £375,000 George Graham paid Stoke City for Lee Dixon in January 1988. 25% of arguably the greatest 90s defence, Lee finished his Arsenal career with four league titles, three FA Cup winners medals, a UEFA Cup Winner's Cup medal and infamously a runners-up medal in the latter competition too. But it was the first of his league championship medals that intrigued us most; the night of 26th May 1989, Liverpool v Arsenal - a championship play off in the last game of the season. For a whole host of reasons, from Fever Pitch to the ramifications of the Hillsborough disaster, the 1988/89 season marked the end of football as it had largely been for 100 years. And in it's culmination, Michael Thomas' last minute winner didn't just cement the league for Arsenal, it also cemented the idea of live football as a major box office draw, with the dawn of the Premier League coming soon after. We put all of this to Lee. Plus... we speculate as to whether Sean Dyche eats worms. 100 years ago this weekend, Walter Tull was killed in action in the First World War. While not a name that immediately springs to mind when we think of the people that influenced our game the most over the years, Tull was a pioneer. We first profiled him back in November 2009, and with increasing calls for him to be recognised posthumously for his services both to football and the military, we thought it would be nice to re-release his entry into our hall of fame from nine or so years ago. His story is incredible and his contribution to football and society in general can never be underestimated. The Football Ramble, the original and best football podcast. Mark Wilson grew up in the Manchester United youth academy and was part of the first team squad from 1997 to 2001. During that time he experienced the environment and culture that dominated the Premier League, the leadership of Roy Keane, and work ethic of David Beckham. Mark shares his views on how that culture was created and what pieces of it we can take into our own environments today.

Sadly the FA Cup delivered no cupsets but we still enjoyed it, certainly more than Luke Shaw will have after another dressing down from Jose Mourinho, Mo Salah excites us into thinking he may be the greatest human in history and Newcastle get in a glorious bonus dig at Sunderland. On top of this the England squad musters enthusiasm, in a way, Neil Warnock spies a conspiracy, and Romario absolutely doesn’t. One day, Manchester United's tactics look brilliant. The next, foolish. So, which is it? The two Mikes examine the differences between an impressive win over Liverpool and a listless Champions League exit at the hands of Sevilla, and whether the Special One's playbook won't work in the current era of world football. PRODUCER'S NOTE: We apologize in advance for a few moments when Caley's audio goes south for a minute or two. It's a free-for-all in the bottom half of the Premier League table, but the two Mikes have some ideas about which clubs are in a lot more trouble than the rest. Before they roll through all the teams under the threat of the drop, they quickly touch on the two big matches bet...

In today’s meaty Monday pod, Robbie and Robbie discuss United’s come-from-behind win at Old Trafford (1:40). But despite United’s win, the guys still ask – should United fans be concerned over the form of Alexis and Pogba? (6:10)? They also analyze Lukaku’s play and discuss his post-match comments about not getting enough respect (8:20) and question Conte’s decision to take Hazard off with the score tied (18:40). The 2 R’s then move on to the Palace-Spurs match that saw Prince Harry net a late winner (23:30) before closing out the show with a review of Man City’s victory over Arsenal in the League Cup Final (30:00)

Pep Guardiola gets his first trophy as Man City manager, inspires another dissection of Arsenal and is accused of harbouring a fugitive all at once, while Jose Mourinho emerges victorious in a rare on-pitch ding dong with Antonio Conte, and down at The Hawthorns Alan Pardew is as bemused as the rest of us. On top of all this there’s a warlock, an earful for Tony Pulis and though there may be bad blood in the correspondence section there’s also a trip to Kevin Keegan’s Soccer Circus and a humble gift from Sol Campbell.
