The Preview Show: Man City head to Arsenal, Wolves and Spurs prepare a ding dong, and Crystal Palace host not-local rivals Brighton

This is Ramble number 5! We’ve got a little bit of Jesus, for City, a little bit of Ljungberg, he’s pretty, a little bit of Keggy, he’s a mess, a little bit a Pearson, he’s intense. That’s enough of that. We take a particularly giddy look over good wins for a Matthew McConaghey-hosting Chelsea and Man City in the Champions League, Jonjo Shelvey’s beef with Pete_69 (Donaldson?), reminisce about playground goalposts, Godzilla and so much more. Listen please. We’ve also been nominated for another award! On The Continent: Champions League competitiveness, disappointment for Inter, and Gennaro Gattuso gets back in the mix

The gang are finally back together for another episode of On The Continent! With the Champions League group stage wrapped up, we assess the competitiveness of a tournament that has no teams from outside the traditional top 5 leagues in its knockout stages. RB Salzburg were one of the underdogs who came closest to qualifying, but couldn’t get the result they needed against Liverpool. We discuss some of their other bright young stars aside from Erling Braut Håland, as Liverpool are reportedly lining up a move for Japanese attacker Takumi Minamino. Elsewhere, after their elimination from the tournament, James gives a thorough assessment of Inter’s performances this season and how far they still have to go under Antonio Conte. Andy brings us a Lyon update after their laboured win over nine-man Nîmes, and Gennaro Gattuso is the new Napoli boss. We repeat: Gennaro Gattuso is the new Napoli boss. It’s tremendous stuff, it really is. Correspondence? Everton rebounds, City stumbles & Leicester is HOT

The two Mikes explain why Everton should stick with Duncan Ferguson in perpetuity (full disclosure: this misleading and completely incorrect statement was written by a Liverpool fan), and then move on to the Manchester Derby, which may have killed the title race. The only hope for that title race may now lie with Leicester City, who have figured out some things.Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoicesSupport the show

Ramble Meets... Oliver Kay on Adrian Doherty

On today’s episode of Ramble Meets… Luke is joined by Oliver Kay, senior football writer for The Athletic and author of ‘Forever Young: The Story of Adrian Doherty, Football’s Lost Genius’. It’s the topic of that book that he joins us to discuss today as we look back on the fascinating, but ultimately tragic, life of teenage football prodigy Adrian Doherty. Oliver vividly tells the story of a 16 year-old with such exceptional talent that he was held in the same esteem as Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes in the Manchester United youth setup in the early 1990s. Remembered as an eccentric character whose interest lay in music, books and poetry, Doherty’s burgeoning career was cut short by a horrific cruciate injury - and his life tragically ended at just 26 after an accident in Den Haag. Oliver and Luke discuss his fascinating story, wondering whether football clubs should have a responsibility to cater for different personality types, and ponder what might have been... There's also troubling news as reports of homophobic chanting in the Premier League surface on the weekend the top flight celebrated LGBT inclusion as part of the Rainbow Laces campaign. Bournemouth 0-3 Liverpool | The Final Word

Liverpool travelled down to the Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth trying to extend their lead at the top of the table and with a heavily rotated side came away with yet another victory. Starts for Keita, Gomez and Oxlade-Chamberlain meant Liverpool were well rested and rejuvenated and the performance showed that. Goals from Ox, Salah, and Keita meant that the injury ravaged Bournemouth side couldn't compete. As easy a three nil win as we've had all season. Up the Table Topping Reds! Hosted on Acast. The Ramble: United come out on top in Manchester, Big Dunc starts strongly and Vardy's gonna Vard

Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer has brought Man United back! Again. The Blizzard: Liverpool 3-3 West Ham United, 2006

We’re heading back to 2006 for the latest episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard, to a match our guest described as “perhaps the best FA Cup final there had ever been.” It’s the 2006 final between Liverpool and West Ham, and our guest is the Guardian football writer Jacob Steinberg! The FA Cup had seen some fairly underwhelming finals throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, but this game in Cardiff gloriously bucked that trend. West Ham, with Alan Pardew in only his second full season in charge, took on the European champions in front of 71,000 at the Millennium Stadium. We discuss the lead up to the game and the respective sides’ impressive seasons, as well as the match itself - that late Steven Gerrard howitzer included. Fancy getting in touch? The Preview Show: Liverpool put Marco Silva under pressure, Leicester keep up the pace, and Chelsea get back to winning ways

The Amazon era has begun! Liverpool left five goals with neighbours Everton as the streaming behemoth gave us a glimpse into the future. It hath arrived. The festive fixture schedule is insane. So many games in so few days. There's a full schedule of games mid-week, followed up by a full schedule of games on the weekend, followed up by some pretty crucial Champions League match-ups next week. Buckle in, folks. There are so many storylines running through the league right now. Ole's continued poor run of form. Jose' the cockeral. Arsenal being booty. Leicester's amazing season. Sheffield United hanging around the top of the league. Wolves doing well in Europa League and in contention for a spot again next year. Everton sucking. Only 6 points separating #5 from #17. Liverpool's continued dominance. Man City looking vulnerable. Captain American at Chelsea. Oh my. So much juice. Like a vanilla milkshake IPA.

The Ramble: Leicester leave it late, business as usual for Arsenal, and Steve Bruce blunts Man City

On reflection this was always going to be a terrible time for Pep Guardiola to enter into the gladiatorial (Sports Direct) arena that is the Brucey Bowl, but to his credit Man City did at least emerge with a point - thanks to Jonjo Shelvey. Leicester left it late to take advantage, but take advantage they did. Is Jamie Vardy planning another party? Let’s assume yes. Elsewhere Arsenal’s first performance under Freddie Ljungberg was less than handsome - an insult to the man’s bone structure - sheep dogs make a surprising appearance, Marcus makes a salty Google search suggestion and at one point we just start listing beasts. Episode 369 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Rules Are Made To Be Broken)

That was the week that was, it's over, let it go. So went the opening lyrics to the 1960s satirical BBC show That Was The Week That Was, or TW3 as it was more succinctly known. And it's been a quiet week in the North American footballing landscape. That gives us the chance to trial a new format I've been keen to try, combining two shows I love - TW3 and AIOTM on AFTN. What could go wrong?! We'll be breaking down the week's Whitecaps, MLS, and CPL news as the days played out, and throw in a few fun bits as well. Let us know if you like it. But we also continue our new section to pick our Whitecaps of the decade, looking at the defence and picking our starting right back, left back, and two centre backs. Let us know if you agree. Plus The Cockney Rejects are back in Wavelength, The New Royal Family begin their residency as our artists of the month for December, and there's BC Soccerweb headlines. Here's the rundown for the main segments from the episode:06.46: Monday - waivers, midfielders, and Jon Erice13.53: Tuesday - CPL awards, Champions League face offs, and top clubs in the world33.32: Wednesday - free agents, returning Whitecaps you'd welcome back, and Canada Soccer awards55.24: Thursday - giving thanks and Canada's Hex dreams65.40: Friday and the weekend - FA Cup and cup football in Canada, football streaming services, and future fixtures92.55: Whitecaps of the Decade - the back four121.15: Wavelength - The Cockney Rejects - Chapecocense126.35: BC Soccerweb headlines - news stories from around the world of football
