Tuchel’s Test | Fantastic Ford | Ashes Preview

Rob Jones is joined by Jacqui Oatley, Martin Samuel and Julien Laurens to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We begin by looking at England’s unbeaten World Cup qualification. But is Jacqui right to think that, while praise is due, Tuchel’s real test will be winning the tournament itself? Attention then turns to Scotland. After their 3–2 loss to Greece, everything now comes down to Tuesday night at Hampden, where they host Denmark and hope to top the group with a win. We move on to Wales, who beat Liechtenstein to draw level on points with second-placed North Macedonia and now look to reach the play-offs by beating them on Tuesday. Next, we turn to England’s impressive win against the All Blacks. Martin highlights George Ford’s two drop goals in a 33–19 performance that indicates Steve Borthwick’s approach is bearing fruit. We’re then joined by Adam Collins to preview the Ashes. With just five days to go, Australia are without both Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, and Adam believes the key will be how quickly England hit the ground running. And finally, we’re joined by Rob Dorsett, who discusses all things England with John Cross and Jason Burt in Tirana ahead of Albania v England. Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. England World Cup-bound + can Man United add to Liverpool’s losing streak?

Jimbo assembles Natalie Gedra, Dom Fifield and Duncan Alexander for another dose of Totally as we gear up for the return of the Premier League - and look back on the midweek international action. England became the first European nation to qualify for the World Cup on Tuesday night after their 5-0 win over Latvia. But what are the key selection headaches that will be troubling Thomas Tuchel? And who's running out of time to secure their place on the plane come next summer? Elsewhere, Sweden have sacked Jon Dahl Tomasson after somehow conspiring to pick up just one point in his four games in charge, leaving their hopes of qualification in a highly perilous position. And it's been a rollercoaster of an international break for Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil - hammering South Korea 5-0 but then handed a 3-2 defeat by Japan in Tokyo which has gone down predictably well back in South America... Then, it's full steam ahead to MD8 in the Premier League. We've got the intrigue of high-flying Palace v Bournemouth, Liverpool looking to end their three-match losing steak against Manchester United, who are on a one-match winning streak of their own - while Ange's increasingly precarious position at Forest faces its next test with Chelsea visiting the City Ground. All that plus Grand Sumo, Arctic Circle sackings - and 'Ndiaye Will Always Love You'. Produced by Charlie Jones and Lucy Oliva. Ange Under Pressure | Downside of Multi-Club Ownership | Rashford Permanent Barca deal?

Vicky Gomersall is joined by Charlie Wyett, Jonathan Northcroft and The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We begin with looking at the pressure Ange Postecoglou is under. Jonathan questions whether Forest are worried about league position and want solidity. Charlie is surprised some of the fans have turned on Ange already. What’s gone so wrong for Ange? We then turn to England news, firstly to Jude Bellingham and the criticism he has received for his lack of presence with the press; Charlie questions whether he would be a good future England Captain but considers Declan Rice a better candidate. Then to Elliot Anderson, and Jack praises how natural he looks in a position so important to Tuchel’s side ahead of the World Cup. And on the UEFA committee’s meeting to revive interest in the International break, we ask whether the no-jeopardy games are too boring. We also look at The Telegraph’s story that Strasbourg have turned into a Chelsea feeder-club. Jonathan explains the fans’ reason to protest; how multi-club ownership can affect the lesser clubs involved and how the fans believe their identity is being diluted. Next, news that Barcelona want to sign Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal; Jonathan believes £25m is a great price in today’s market for the Spanish side, but bad-selling business from Man United. We move on to Mo Salah’s current form; Jack considers last season’s Liverpool playing to Salah’s strengths, whilst this year transitioning with Slot’s new signings and tactics. We then explore the story that Europe’s elite clubs answer to nobody as they carve up football’s billions. Jonathan criticises the distribution of funds, with £6billion coming in for Champions League sides, but lesser clubs not getting parity with very little filtering down to clubs missing out. And finally, we conclude this week’s pod on a sombre note, with the sad news that England Rugby star Lewis Moody is diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease. Running Order: 3mins – Ange Under Pressure 20mins – England News 38mins – Downside of Multi-Club Ownership 42mins – Rashford permanent Barca deal? 57mins – Europe’s elite clubs carve up football’s billions 61mins – Lewis Moody diagnosed with MND Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. England’s Struggle to Entertain | Levy Shock Spurs Exit | WSL Favourites & Signings

Vicky Gomersall is joined by The Telegraph’s Jason Burt, The Sunday Times’ Jonathan Northcroft and sports broadcaster Jacqui Oatley to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We begin with England’s struggle to entertain against Andorra. Jonathan praises Anderson and Madueke but Jacqui questions whether England are on track, as fans need to believe they can win, ahead of the World Cup next year. Next to Daniel Levy’s Spurs exit. Jonathan talks of the ex-Tottenham Chairman’s longevity, but will Levy’s twenty-four-year stint in charge be seen as a success, with an ultimate failure to reach the glory of the bigger trophies? Then we’re joined by The Athletic’s Megan Feringa to talk WSL; £1m signing Alyssa Thompson joins an already-strong Chelsea side, favourites to become champions again. And Megan praises Arsenal’s display against London City, particularly Olivia Smith’s long-range goal to help Renee Slegers’ side make a winning start to the season Finally, back to England, and has Tuchel underestimated his job? Jonathan thinks Tuchel has learnt from his first few games in charge, understanding you can’t overcomplicate the tactical side of international football, with the lack of time to practice with his players. Hasselbaink: England’s Mistakes, Trent’s Midfield Gamble, Leeds & Chelsea Career | Stick to Football EP 92

Welcome back to Stick to Football, brought to you by ARNE. In this episode, Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Jill Scott and Ian Wright are joined by former Leeds and Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to look back on a career packed with goals, big moments and unforgettable stories, as well as his time as a national team coach and manager in the EFL. We start with Jimmy’s early career, from growing up playing football to his big break in Portugal. How did he make his way to England and what challenges did he overcome along the journey? The conversation then turns to his time at Leeds United, how he adapted to Premier League life, the teammates who pushed him to become one of the club’s top scorers, and the controversy around his exit from Elland Road which saw him move to Atlético Madrid. Jimmy recalls his return to England, leading the line for Chelsea and later Middlesbrough, where he worked with Gareth Southgate. That connection eventually led to him joining Southgate’s coaching staff for Euro 2024. We dive into the tournament itself. Where did England go wrong, and was playing Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield too big a gamble? Looking ahead, we also discuss Thomas Tuchel's appointment as England prepare for the future. Maybe you could go for a swim?

Marcus, Luke and Jim break out a good old fashioned Eaaaaazay after England U21s beat Germany and retained their Euros crown. We wonder which of the squad could push for a senior call-up and ask who Thomas Tuchel was REALLY supporting… Elsewhere, it turns out Jurgen Klopp isn’t a fan of our beloved Club World Cup, but Kaveh Solhekol is here to remind him that he can go fishing instead. Or read a book. Or go outside. Plus, we wonder what’s next for free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin and, after six months, the siege on Lazio’s prosthetic penis specialist comes to a disappointing end. Jimbo is joined in the studio by Duncan Alexander, Tom Williams and Tim Spiers to talk about the endless football. The Club World Cup starts this weekend with the delights of Auckland City and the new time wasting rules to look forward to. Are we excited? England are humbled 3-1 by Senegal in friendly action. Is this just history repeating itself? And what will Thomas Tuchel gain from appearing to publicly criticise Jude Bellingham? USA are also booed off after a home friendly thrashing, their 4th defeat in a row. Paul Tenorio tells us why these are tough times for Mauricio Pochettino. We bring you the draw for the Inter Totally Cup, featuring three-time winner and current champion Michael Cox. Plus Sterling hits the side netting, Tom eats burgers and what season is it anyway? Is it panic stations yet?

Turns out Thomas Tuchel is the bravest boy of all. A 4-4-2 tribute act, even when it doesn’t suit this team or opposition? RULE BRITANNIA! Seriously though, what on Earth was that? Marcus, Jim and Vish try to work out what Tuchel’s plan is after a humbling defeat to an excellent Senegal side, as several England players did themselves no favours. Plus, Crystal Palace and Lyon play out the final scene from Reservoir Dogs, there’s transfers aplenty in Manchester and we somehow find ourselves in the pocket of Big Tuna. PSG almost champions as Mbappe and Lukaku bag big goals in title races

Jimbo’s joined by Pol Ballús, Julien Laurens, Rory Smith & Seb Stafford-Bloor as the domestic action returns across Europe with the end of the season in sight. Inter remain three points clear at the top of the Serie A table after their 2-1 win over Udinese, while Romelu Lukaku scored the 400th goal of his career in Napoli’s vital victory over struggling Milan to keep the pressure on the leaders. Over in Spain, three points is also the gap between Barcelona and Real Madrid - who both recorded wins with braces from Mbappe and Lewandowski. Plus, Antony’s Betis just can’t stop winning in a fiery Seville derby. PSG continued to romp towards the Ligue 1 title - which is now all but mathematically sealed - with an emphatic 6-1 victory at Saint-Etienne, while Strasbourg are on their best run in six years after their impressive 4-2 win over Lyon. Elsewhere, Marseille suffered a hat-trick of defeats as they were beaten 3-1 by lowly Reims - their first league victory since November. And in Germany, defeat for Leipzig at Gladbach spelled the end for Marco Rose, with Thomas Tuchel’s former assistant Zsolt Low installed as interim boss. Harry Kane’s a step closer to winning his first title as he made it 58 goals in 57 Bundesliga appearances in Bayern’s 3-2 win over St Pauli. Produced by Lucy Oliva. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Moments of the weekend (00.45) • PART 2: Serie A review - Napoli breathing down Inter’s neck (09.40) • PART 3: La Liga review - Atleti’s challenge over as Barca stay top (23.25) • PART 4: Bundesliga review - Rose shown the door (41.30) • PART 5: Ligue 1 review - Marseille slump continues as PSG close in on title (55.10) Hosted on Acast. Bellingham and Mbappé Brilliance, Two-Horse Races in La Liga and Serie A

Before moving on to some big results from the weekend, Musa gives his thoughts on Thomas Tuchel’s first two games as the England men’s manager (04:23), before he and Ryan touch on the FA Cup quarter finals (11:32). They then head to La Liga and Serie A, where the title races seemed to lose contenders this weekend. In La Liga (17:21), Atlético's draw with Espanyol continued a run of patchy form that has seen them fall six points behind Real Madrid and nine behind Barcelona, both of whom won this weekend. In Serie A (32:45), despite dramatic ends to both games, Napoli and Inter won, while Atalanta lost a second game in a row—dropping from the top two.
