On today’s episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard, the New York Times’ Tariq Panja joins us to remember one of the most raucous football atmospheres he’s ever experienced, where his laptop “consistently bounced off the table in the press box for the full 120 minutes.” Tariq, Marcus and Jonathan reminisce about an error-ridden match where Turkey looked certain to go out as the game unfolded and Croatian pressure started to mount. Drama late in extra-time, a chaotic penalty shoot-out and a frantic battle to get to a European Championship semi-final ensured this was truly a game to remember. We have all the latest on the latest meetings about meetings! To be fair to the Premier League that’s about all they can do at the moment as we seem to be no closer to a concrete plan. That doesn’t matter though, because Louis van Gaal has decided to keep us all entertained by calling Ed Woodward an “evil genius” and “inviting” Jose Mourinho to explain why it only took four days for him to replace him at Man United. There’s a beef stew bubbling away here. In Turkey Besiktas have installed a disinfection cabinet at their training ground and the thing looks like some amazing futuristic tech, so naturally we posit some alternative uses, while we also look forward to the Neville brothers taking each on in some televised garden centre challenge under the new rules and learn that we may be more of an aphrodisiac than we realised. Oh no. We also love Dave Bautista. We just love him and we don’t care who knows it. European football has ground to a halt, but that won’t stop us recording a brand new episode of On The Continent on Football Ramble Daily! Andy and Luke sit down to discuss Uefa’s decision to postpone Euro 2020 by a year, as their new working group to try and find room to reschedule the continent’s domestic leagues. Each of those various nations have their own strategies to combating the virus, as the Spanish FA’s Luis Rubiales lambasted La Liga sides for prioritising the testing their own players. Elsewhere, we look at some of the stars who will benefit - and those who won’t - from the tournament’s postponement. The likes of Leroy Sané and Dayot Upamecano will surely light up next summer’s tournament, while Luke spares a thought for Olivier Giroud as his recent resurgence would have helped his chances of leading the line for his country again. We finish up with some actual football, as Turkey’s season continues! In these troubled times, we need comfort; and that’s exactly what Turkey’s given us, as Demba Ba keeps on scoring and a groomed Martin Škrtel stuck one in his own net. Glorious. Back to back wins certainly puts a spring in our step. As does the veritable feast of football that we had around this world this past week. And we talk about a lot of it in this week's show. We kick things off with an analysis of Vancouver Whitecaps' 1-0 win over Portland Timbers in MLS action on Friday night. A great defensive display that saw the 'Caps, temporarily at least, move into the playoff places, but most certainly now in the mix. We look at the good, the bad, and the ugly from the match, the supporters walkout, and the concerns the team still give us. Our feature interview this week is with Whitecaps defender Ali Adnan, as we sit down with the Iraqi international to talk about his footballing life so far, from playing football as a little boy in Iraq to his footballing family, the moves to Turkey and Italy, and now to MLS. We also chat with Marc Dos Santos about technology in the modern game and MLS managers complaining, to Will Cromack about the new TSS Rovers season, continue our 1979 NASL Soccer Bowl celebrations, and more!
