Ayo Akinwolere is joined by The Athletic's Dom Fifield and Jay Harris to reflect on the significance of Michael Olise's decision to stay at Crystal Palace, amid interest from serial spenders Chelsea... What is it about the 21-year-old winger that attracted interest from Chelsea (and even Manchester City) and is it important that so-called 'smaller' Premier League clubs, fight back against the tide of mega-rich teams - like Chelsea - stockpiling the best young prospects from elsewhere in the league. It’s Jimbo and the Euro crew of James Horncastle, Raphael Honigstein, Julien Laurens and Alvaro Romeo as we get fully underway across the continent. Harry Kane scores and assists on his Bundesliga bow but is it what he brings off the pitch that will most benefit Bayern this season? Milan impress on Serie A’s opening weekend thanks to Captain America but Juventus are the team that look like they really mean business. PSG are still winless under Luis Enrique, even with Kylian Mbappe back on the scoresheet. But it could be worse, they could be Laurent Blanc’s Lyon. Bellingham and Yamal light up La Liga but it’s the conduct of Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales after Spain’s World Cup win that dominates the headlines. And we remember Carlo Mazzone, Guardiola’s former manager, who passed away this weekend. Produced by Charlie Jones. It’s the return of the Euro pod with Jimbo, James Horncastle, Raphael Honigstein, Alvaro Romeo and Julien Laurens serving up the continental football chat. Kylian Mbappe appears to be staying at PSG for the next couple of years after all. Luis Enrique’s new team will be looking for him to finish one of the thousand passes they’re putting together. Harry Kane debuts for Bayern Munich but Thomas Tuchel and many others are worried about just how fragile the team appear to be after a Super Cup humbling by Leipzig. It’s a scoring debut for Jude Bellingham in La Liga as the physicality of Real Madrid comes to the fore. Atletico are looking good but Barcelona take part in the dullest Spanish game ever. And while Luciano Spalletti looks set to replace Roberto Mancini as Italy manager, we look ahead to the new Serie A season with a title race that’s too close to call. Produced by Charlie Jones. Gary Mantle joins James for a particularly important Correspondent Week Podcast on Chelsea who are now managed by former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino and have a number of important and interesting FPL assets that appeal, particularly ahead of a critical fixture swing in Gameweek 3. But Christopher Nkunku ‘might’ be injured, should he be fit he is still very much worth considering, but so to is the slightly cheaper Nicolas Jackson. Reece James vs Ben Chilwell, which is best for investment? Or should 4.5 Levi Colwill take Fantasy managers defensive investment? Or should, with concerns about depth in midfield, Chelsea’s defence be avoided all together? Plus, 4.5 midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka looks set to start in GW1, is he one of the 8 Chelsea players Gary thinks (subject to fitness) are locked to start vs Liverpool? It’s a Planet FPL debut for new Crystal Palace correspondent Ruaidhri McLaughlin-Dowd as he joins James to give the lowdown on The Eagles, and there are concerns that Palace may be about to have a season where they stand still rather than kick on. There’s reflection on Patrick Vieira’s dismissal and the improved run under Roy Hodgson, but is it the right call to have then reappointed him on a full-time basis? Could it partly be because Palace haven’t looked like doing much business in the transfer market and that Hodgson remains a safe pair of hands until the man Palace wants is available? With Wilfried Zaha gone and Michael Olise injured much of the onus will fall on the popular Ebe Eze to provide the attacking output in the season to come, he now looks the clear talisman for FPL and at 6.5 will appeal. But does he need a better support cast to allow him to flourish? Could 19 year-old Brazilian Matheus Franca prove to be the much needed attacking addition that Palace need? Plus, does the signing of Jefferson Lerma signal a return to a more pragmatic Palace? And does it mean their defensive assets at 4.5 should appeal more?
