Bayern Munich 4-3 Real Madrid (6-4 agg): Champions League quarter-final, second leg – live reaction

⚽ Champions League news; 8pm BST kick-off (first leg: 2-1) ⚽ Arsenal v Sporting – updates | Live scores | Mail Michael “Yes Neuer is a great keeper, but when you pitch him against Yashin, Banks, you’re really not comparing like with like,” emails Jeremy Boyce. “Chalk and cheese. Yashin, famously, could pick the ball up off the ground with one hand. Banks was a genius, saw him live once, crap match, Everton v Stoke, 0-0, the only moment of magic was a save he made. Neither of these would have been able to ‘play out from the back’ or any of that because it was a different game then. You could still pass back to the keeper! Neuer is great, but really? Up there with those greats from a bygone age? If you’re looking for a great German goalkeeper how about Trautmann as the GGKOAT ? How many others have played on with a broken neck? No doubting that Trautmann is a legend for different reasons but he doesn’t touch Kahn or Sepp Maier, never mind Neuer. However, Jeremy does make a good point in comparing players from such different eras. It’s effectively impossible, as it was a completely different game and is just a subjective choice. But I’d have 1. Yashin 2. Neuer 3. Buffon (for what it’s worth).

Owura Edwards provides an assist in Colchester United's win over Accrington

English-Ghanaian winger Owura Edwards played a key role in Colchester United’s 2–1 home win over Accrington Stanley, laying on the crucial equaliser in a hard-fought League Two clash at the JobServe Community Stadium. With Colchester trailing, Edwards sparked the comeback in the 43rd minute, driving at the defence before supplying the pass for Will Goodwin to level the score at 1–1 just before half-time.That moment shifted the momentum after Shaun Whalley had earlier put Accrington ahead on 33 minutes, and Colchester went on to dominate possession and chances after the break. Their pressure finally told late on when Jack Payne struck an 86th-minute winner, completing the turnaround and sealing a valuable three points for the U’s.For Edwards, the assist adds to a steadily growing contribution this season, with the 25-year-old now on 1 goal and 4 assists in 33 League Two appearances in 2025/26. His direct running and creativity from the flank once again gave Colchester a constant outlet in attack. Danny Cowley’s side now turn their attention to their next league fixture away at Harrogate Town on Saturday, 18 April 2026.

Arda Guler’s 34-second goal ranks 13th among the fastest in Champions League history: Who’s No. 1?

Arda Guler’s goal against Bayern Munich for Real Madrid is one of the fastest in UEFA Champions League history. The second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid got off to a blistering start, as just 34 seconds in, Arda Guler capitalized on a mistake by Manuel Neuer to give the Spanish side the lead with a precise left-footed finish. That strike allowed Guler to move into 13th place on the list of the fastest goals in Champions League history. The Turkish midfielder overtook Andreas Moller, who had held that spot since 1996 after scoring for Borussia Dortmund 36 seconds into a match against Juventus. It is worth noting that this statistic only includes Champions League editions played since 1992, when UEFA adopted the current name — along with an expanded format — replacing the traditional European Cup. Since then, the record for the fastest goal in the competition belongs to Roy Makaay, who scored after 10.12 seconds. Interestingly, that also came in a match between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, played in Germany in March 2007 during the Round of 16. TERRIBLE MISTAKE FROM NEUER, BUT INCREDIBLE GOAL FROM GULER 😱#UCL pic.twitter.com/IQ2ZPoJrwr — DAZN Football (@DAZNFootball) April 15, 2026 The podium is completed by Jonas, who scored after 10.96 seconds for Valencia against Bayer Leverkusen in 2011, and Gilberto Silva, who still holds third place thanks to his 20-second goal for Arsenal against PSV Eindhoven in 2002. The fastest goals in Champions League history: 1- 10.12 seconds – Roy Makaay – Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid (2007) 2- 10.96 seconds – Jonas – Valencia vs Bayer Leverkusen (2011) 3- 20.07 seconds – Gilberto Silva – PSV Eindhoven vs Arsenal (2002) 4- 20.12 seconds – Alessandro Del Piero – Manchester United vs Juventus (1997) 5- 21.06 seconds – Clarence Seedorf – Schalke 04 vs AC Milan (2005) 6- 24 seconds – Alexandre Pato – AC Milan vs Barcelona (2011) 7- 25.02 seconds – David Alaba – Bayern Munich vs Juventus (2013) 8- 25.20 seconds – Marek Kincl – Rapid Vienna vs Club Brugge (2005) 9- 25.54 seconds – Dejan Stankovic – Inter Milan vs Schalke 04 (2013) 10- 27 seconds – Conor Gallagher – Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid (2025) 11- 28.21 seconds – Mariano Bombarda – Willem II vs Sparta Prague (1999) 12- 31 seconds – David Trezeguet – AS Monaco vs Manchester United (1998) 13- 34 seconds – Arda Guler – Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid (2026) Guler also makes Real Madrid history Arda Guler not only entered the Champions League record books, but also etched his name into Real Madrid history. The Turkish midfielder now owns the second-fastest goal in the club’s history in European competition. According to sports statistics expert Mister Chip, only one Real Madrid player has scored faster in continental play: Rial, who has held the record since 1957 after scoring against Antwerp in 31 seconds. Guler now sits second with his 34-second goal, while the podium is completed by Felo, who scored against Juventus after 35 seconds in 1962.

Jarell Quansah returns to Bayer Leverkusen team training

Bayer Leverkusen have been handed a defensive boost with Jarell Quansah officially back in full team training after his recent muscle injury. The centre-back took part in Tuesday’s open session, with club footage confirming his return to group work. His comeback follows the timeline that head coach Kasper Hjulmand hinted at before the 1–0 win over Borussia Dortmund, when he explained that Quansah was close to rejoining the squad. With preparations underway for Saturday’s Bundesliga clash against Augsburg, the defender is now expected to complete a full training week.Quansah had been sidelined for around three weeks due to a thigh muscle problem, missing two competitive matches during that period. His availability, however, strengthens Leverkusen’s defensive options at a key point in the season.

Ragnar Ache stands out as FC Koln's new attacking leader

German-Ghanaian striker Ragnar Ache is enjoying the most stable spell of his career at FC Koln, turning a difficult start to the season into an impressive success story. After an up-and-down first half of the campaign and repeated physical setbacks, the 27-year-old is now fully fit and repaying the club’s faith with standout performances. When he arrived from Kaiserslautern, where he scored 18 goals but struggled with injuries, Koln handled him carefully and focused on building his fitness step by step. Looking back, Ache believes that approach was key to his current form, admitting that throwing him straight into constant action “would not have been smart.” Now he is a guaranteed starter, having made eleven consecutive starts and becoming a central figure in the team’s attack. His numbers underline that impact: one goal before the winter break has turned into six league goals in the second half of the season, plus a total of eight goals and six assists in all competitions. Ache still insists others can handle “the spectacular things,” but his hard work, pressing, and link-up play have made him indispensable as Koln push toward a strong finish.
