Cristiano Ronaldo learns Kingsley Coman’s status for Al-Okhdood game in Saudi Pro League, with Al-Nassr teammate Inigo Martinez ruled out

Cristiano Ronaldo and Kingsley Coman head into a crucial weekend for Al-Nassr with uncertainty clouding part of the squad, while Inigo Martinez continues to recover from injury. Cristiano Ronaldo and Kingsley Coman head into a crucial weekend for Al-Nassr with uncertainty clouding part of the squad, while Inigo Martinez continues to recover from injury. The club prepares for a potentially season-shaping meeting with Al-Okhdood, a match that will influence both the title race and the relegation battle. Ronaldo now knows the condition of two key teammates before the trip, yet only one of them is ready to contribute on Saturday. Al-Okhdood fights to escape the relegation zone, whereas Al-Nassr arrives as the league leader in remarkable form. With seven matches remaining, every point carries enormous weight as the title race intensifies. The host has managed only one home victory since mid-January, a stretch that highlights its struggle at Prince Hathloul Stadium. Even with a match in hand over other relegation rivals, the club’s margin for error is shrinking. The new coach, Paulo Sergio, aims to tighten the defence, but the challenge awaiting it involves the league’s most explosive attack. Jorge Jesus has transformed Al-Nassr into a relentless force in the Saudi Pro League. The club followed a 5-0 demolition of Al-Khaleej with a dramatic 5-2 comeback against Al-Najma, where Ronaldo and Sadio Mane each scored twice. That victory kept the Riyadh outfit top on 70 points, two ahead of Al-Hilal and four above Al-Ahli, with a valuable game in hand. The team’s extraordinary run includes 13 consecutive league victories and eight straight away wins. Al-Nassr’s attack remains the centerpiece of its success, supported by improved defensive structure. With the title race narrowing, every selection decision becomes more important. Squad updates: Inigo Martinez out One key issue for Saturday is the absence of Inigo Martinez, who continues to recover from a hamstring injury. Saudi newspaper Arriyadiyah notes that he “continued his rehabilitation program on Thursday” and will not feature this weekend. The defender is progressing steadily, but the staff remains cautious to avoid setbacks. Kingsley Coman’s availability revealed The biggest question of the week surrounded Kingsley Coman, whose fitness had become a topic of suspense within the dressing room. Al-Nassr received clarity when Arriyadiyah reported that the winger returned to full training with the squad. “Kingsley Coman participated in Al-Nassr’s group training session after recovering from his injury”, said the report. Locked in for Saturday ⚽ pic.twitter.com/cZzmskLJgX — AlNassr FC (@AlNassrFC_EN) April 9, 2026 In the middle of preparations, the Frenchman confirmed his readiness for Saturday’s match. His availability offers Al-Nassr a timely boost, especially with Martinez watching from the sidelines.

European wrap: Villa on course for semis, Forest draw

Ollie Watkins' second-half brace helped give Aston Villa a comfortable 3-1 lead over Bologna heading into next week's Europa League quarter-final second leg at Villa Park.

Watkins doubles up to punish Bologna and put Aston Villa in driving seat

There was a heady atmosphere in Bologna before this match, with flags flying everywhere and the legend “weareone” plastered on the walls of the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara. Into this fervent atmosphere stepped Aston Villa, with warnings against complacency from their manager ringing in their ears. The Premier League side did not play well and were second best for much of the night, but they did stay supremely cool and turned the nervous energy of their hosts back on them to take a two-goal lead home to Birmingham. Ezri Konsa opened the scoring after a gaffe by the goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia, before a second-half double from Ollie Watkins determined the outcome of the match and overwrote Jonathan Rowe’s late goal for the hosts. Bologna’s Englishman, a former Norwich City winger, was likely the man of the match, but Watkins’ ability to remain calm in pressured situations will surely prove the more decisive factor in this tie.

Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal issues a stern warning to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals: ‘This isn’t over’

Despite being defeated by Atlético Madrid, Barcelona remain hopeful of overturning the result. In fact, Lamine Yamal has sent a message of encouragement to the Culers, issuing a strong warning to the Colchoneros. Even though Barcelona arrived as clear favorites, Atlético Madrid managed to defeat them 2–0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals. Hansi Flick’s team failed to convert the numerous chances they created, leaving Marcus Rashford exposed. Nevertheless, Lamine Yamal has sent a positive message to the Culers, while also issuing a clear warning to the Colchoneros ahead the second leg. After the defeat against the Colchoneros, Lamine Yamal sent a message of encouragement to Barcelona, issuing a warning for the second leg. “This isn’t over, Culers. We’ll give everything in the return match. All united, always,” he posted, via Instagram. With this, the Spaniard prepares himself for an anticipated comeback of a two-goal difference at Riyadh Air Metropolitano in the Champions League. Despite not scoring against Atlético Madrid, Lamine dominated on the pitch, being Barcelona’s most decisive player. He not only shone in dribbling but also constantly created space for his teammates. Nevertheless, Marcus Rashford and Dani Olmo were unable to convert all the opportunities generated by the 18-year-old star, cutting off any offensive possibilities. With Pau Cubarsí’s sending off, the Blaugrana lost full control of the game, conceding a free-kick goal from Julián Álvarez. Despite this, they dominated offensively, having more shots on goal and being the brighter team. For this reason, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona could be aiming for a comeback, relying on greater accuracy in front of goal, which could see the Dani Olmo–Fermín López duo deployed again. Lamine Yamal of FC Barcelona is tackled by Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid. Lamine Yamal may need to take a scoring role in Barcelona’s offense Throughout the season, Lamine Yamal has proven to be the key axis of Barcelona’s offense. He is not only decisive in dribbling but also opens up space for his teammates. Nevertheless, the Blaugrana are not at their best in scoring, suffering from dips in form from their forwards, as neither Robert Lewandowski nor Ferran Torres are shining. For this reason, the 18-year-old star will need to take on a more goal-oriented role. Needing to overturn a two-goal deficit, the Blaugrana require scoring power more than ever. For this reason, Fermín López and Dani Olmo could take center stage creatively, while Lamine will need to excel in front of goal. As the team’s top scorer, the 18-year-old star has already shown his scoring ability, so he will need to step up at the forefront on this occasion. Frenkie de Jong’s comeback may prove differential for Barcelona Ahead of the first leg in the Champions League quarterfinals, Hansi Flick had to cope with the difficult absence of Frenkie de Jong in midfield. While Eric García emerged as a decent solution, he was unable to shine offensively, limiting the team’s progression. The Dutchman is set to get playing time against Espanyol, creating significant opportunities to start in the second leg against Atlético Madrid. If Frenkie manages to start in the second leg, the Blaugrana would gain consistency in midfield, as well as an ideal partner for playmaking. This would allow Lamine Yamal and Rashford to receive the ball further up the pitch, creating more opportunities to score and push for a comeback. Nevertheless, Fermín López might need to step up, shining once again offensively, breaking Atlético Madrid’s defense.

Champions League review: a brilliant Georgian, Bayern’s regret and Arsenal refind their faith

This week’s quarter-finals provided some classic action as this season’s competition hurtles towards its conclusion Bayern Munich had not won at the Santiago Bernabéu since May 2001, when they beat Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final on their way to becoming European champions. Tuesday night’s match changed all that. The 29th Champions League meeting between the teams lived up to its heavyweight billing, though Bayern, superior on the night, may rue their failure to extend their 2-1 lead. Real Madrid meanwhile could point to Manuel Neuer making nine saves – not bad for a 40-year-old. “We won’t win the competition without more of these kinds of performances,” said Bayern’s manager, Vincent Kompany, of his keeper. Big trophies are rarely won without great goalkeepers and Neuer continues to play like an all-time great. Bayern’s second goal was a trademark finish from Harry Kane, who made the difficult look easy. The goal will also have calmed England fans’ fears that their captain will arrive at the World Cup suffering from his usual summer malaise. A word too for Luis Díaz and Michael Olise, Bayern’s brilliant wingers whose performances brought back memories of the club’s modern greats Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben. Kompany’s team were commanding in Madrid, but may fear the backlash from the 15-times champions, the kings of comebacks.

Slot defended his decision to leave Mohamed Salah on the bench, saying there was little chance of scoring. Luis Enrique praised PSG’s creativity, with goals from Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia coming from open play. Barcelona’s Champions League ambitions suffer following a 2–0 home loss to Atletico Madrid. Hansi Flick criticised VAR after a controversial handball incident that did not result in a penalty. Pau Cubarsi’s red card proved decisive as Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth put Atletico in control. Champions League Takeaway: PSG Pummel Liverpool & Atleti Stun Barça

Hello Rank Squad! It's the first Champions League Takeaway of the week, looking back at Wednesday's action from the First Legs of the Quarter Finals - where PSG and Atletico Madrid both won by a 2-0 scoreline, albeit in very different ways. At the Parc des Princes, PSG took Liverpool to the cleaners for much of the 90 minutes - and will be somewhat disappointed that their lead that they will take to Anfield is only two goals - some profligate finishing and some excellent goalkeeping from Mamardashvili holding them to just the two goals, but this was one-sided in almost every sense. Liverpool went to a five at the back, and still couldn't contain the reigning Champions, and Arne Slot has a lot of questions to answer ahead of the reverse fixture at Anfield. In Part Two we head to Catalunya, where Atletico won at the Camp Nou for the first time in 20 years, and for the first time under Diego Simeone. It was a game of big decisions - VAR intervening to send off Pau Cubarsi for a last man challenge, whilst at the other end Marc Pubill got away with handling the ball in the box whilst on a yellow card. Hansi Flick was deeply concerned about the decision making, but he can be pleased with a lot of this performance from his side - who remain, deeply watchable partly due to their vulnerabilities. Atleti were clinical and resolute though, and will feel very good about the fact that they return home with a comfortable lead to defend. It's Ranks! Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk up for vast PSG challenge but admits season ‘unacceptable’

‘No one gives us a chance … we have to show the fight’ Champions League first-leg loss was side’s 16th of season Virgil van Dijk has compared the scale of Liverpool’s task against Paris Saint-Germain to Barcelona in 2019 but conceded belief may not be as strong in Arne Slot’s team amid an “unacceptable” season. Liverpool require another remarkable Anfield comeback to salvage their Champions League aspirations after losing the first leg of their quarter-final against PSG 2-0 on Wednesday. The scoreline flattered the Premier League champions, who were outclassed at the Parc des Princes, yet Van Dijk is “100%” convinced the tie can be transformed on home soil. Memories of Barcelona in 2019 fuel the captain’s conviction.
