Hansi Flick has decided to delay all decisions regarding Barcelona’s next squad, including Robert Lewandowski’s future. For months, Robert Lewandowski’s future has been the subject of speculation, as his contract with Barcelona is set to expire at the end of the current season. That situation—along with other key squad decisions—has now been postponed by head coach Hansi Flick, who has set a timeline for making those calls. “Deco already has the planning mapped out, but the German coach prefers to announce departures once the title is secured,” reported Mundo Deportivo on Friday. “Flick wants to avoid the noise around future signings affecting the locker room and potentially disrupting the squad.” Following their elimination in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals against Atletico Madrid, Barcelona’s final objective this season is La Liga. They currently sit comfortably atop the standings, holding a nine-point lead over second-place Real Madrid and an 18-point advantage over third-place Villarreal. With seven matches remaining—meaning 21 points still in play—Barcelona’s path to the league title appears clear. Securing 13 of those 21 points would be enough for the Catalan side to clinch the trophy without relying on other results, and that number could be even lower if Real Madrid fail to win all of their remaining matches. Aaron Ramsdale of Newcastle United fails to save a shot from Robert Lewandowski of FC Barcelona When could Barcelona win La Liga? In the most optimistic scenario, Barcelona would still need to wait at least four more weeks to officially celebrate their 29th Spanish league title. There will be no La Liga action this weekend due to the Copa del Rey final between Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad, and then three league matches would be required. If Barcelona were to win those three matches (against Getafe, Celta Vigo, and Osasuna), and Real Madrid were to lose their next three fixtures (against Real Betis, Alaves, and Espanyol), then by the end of Matchday 34, Los Blaugranas would already be champions. That would make May 3 the earliest possible date for the title to be secured. In a more realistic scenario, Hansi Flick’s side may need a few more weeks. That opens the door to a potentially memorable situation: Barcelona clinching the title by defeating Real Madrid. El Clasico is scheduled for Matchday 35 at Camp Nou and, depending on both teams’ results in the coming weeks, could prove decisive in the La Liga title race. Lewandowski’s future Among the decisions Hansi Flick has chosen to delay until the La Liga title is secured is Robert Lewandowski’s future. Reports indicate that the Polish striker has received a one-year contract extension offer, although the player himself has stated he intends to take his time before deciding his next move. In addition to the possibility of remaining at Barcelona—where he may take on a reduced role amid rumors of the club targeting another top-level striker—Lewandowski has also been linked with clubs such as AC Milan, as well as Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer and even potential moves to the Saudi Pro League.

Tadeo Allende, a key teammate of Lionel Messi at Inter Miami, was absent from Wednesday’s training session ahead of the Major League Soccer clash against New York Red Bulls. On Saturday, Inter Miami will face New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer, a crucial matchup as they look to stay among the top spots in the Eastern Conference. Three days before that game, a key partner of Lionel Messi, Tadeo Allende, was not present at training. “The big absence from this morning’s training session is Tadeo Allende,” journalist Jose Armando reported on Wednesday in a post on his official X account. “Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul trained without any issues.” Allende, alongside Messi, was Inter Miami’s most decisive player during last season’s playoffs, scoring nine goals in six matches that proved crucial in helping the club win its first MLS title. That prompted a significant investment in him, estimated at around $5 million to secure his transfer from Celta Vigo. However, since then, the Argentine forward has struggled to replicate the level he showed at the end of 2025. In fact, this season Allende has yet to register a single goal contribution: he has played eight matches across MLS and the Concacaf Champions Cup without scoring or providing an assist. Javier Mascherano, Head Coach of Inter Miami CF. Two pieces of good news for Inter Miami Despite Tadeo Allende’s absence, Wednesday’s training session brought two positive updates for Inter Miami regarding other players who had recently been dealing with physical issues: Facundo Mura and Sergio Reguilon. “Mura returned to train with the rest of the group,” Jose Armando reported. The Argentine right back missed the last match against Austin FC at Nu Stadium due to an ankle issue. That forced Javier Mascherano to start Ian Fray in that role, but his performance fell short, leading to Gonzalo Lujan coming on at halftime. The other player who was able to train with the squad is Reguilon. The Spanish left back had also missed last Saturday’s match for the Herons due to muscle issues and is now aiming to return to the team. Upcoming challenges for Inter Miami This Saturday at 7:30 PM (ET), Inter Miami will play their second match at the newly inaugurated Nu Stadium at Miami Freedom Park, looking for their first win there after a 2-2 draw against Austin FC last weekend. Their opponent will be New York Red Bulls, who sit one point behind them in the standings. Following that match, the Herons will travel to face Colorado Rapids one week later.

Jimbo’s got Seb Stafford-Bloor, Pol Ballús & James Horncastle along for the usual European fun and games with MD6 in the Champions League on the horizon. We begin with the increasingly loud rumblings of discontent in Madrid - as Xabi Alonso’s Real were stunned in a 2-0 defeat by Celta Vigo on Sunday night. How disastrous could it be for the Los Blancos boss if they were to be beaten by Pep’s City on Wednesday night? In Italy, it was an unhappy return to Naples for Luciano Spalletti as his Juve side were beaten 2-1 by Napoli. Elsewhere, Inter put four past a Como side which had been unbeaten in 11 Serie A games. There may be no Jules but we’ve got a quick look at how things panned out in Ligue 1 over the weekend, with Lens still top, PSG putting five past Rennes and Marseille falling off the pace after their defeat at Lille. How will Luis Enrique’s men fare in their midweek trip to Bilbao to take on Athletic Club? We kick things off in France, where PSG have João Neves to thank for their two-point lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table after his 95th minute winner against Lyon. But chasers Lens and Marseille had wins of their own to keep the pressure on Luis Enrique’s side. In the Bundesliga - Bayern didn’t win a game! But neither did Leipzig or Dortmund, meaning Vincent Kompany’s men have actually extended their lead at the top of the table to six points despite the 2-2 draw at Union Berlin. In Spain, Real Madrid were lucky to come away from Rayo Vallecano with a point - which Barcelona took full advantage of in their 4-2 win at Celta Vigo, featuring a hat-trick from 37-year-old Robert Lewandowski. A special guest joins us from Vigo… nothing to do with Nando’s…. And in Serie A, are we seeing a repeat of Napoli’s last title defence?! Welcome to It Was What It Was, the football history podcast. Today, Jonathan Wilson and Rob Draper explore the remarkable life and career of Luis Enrique, fresh off delivering Paris Saint-Germain’s first-ever Champions League title. From leading Barcelona to a historic treble in 2015 to now rewriting PSG's narrative in Europe, Enrique’s managerial legacy is already carved into footballing folklore. But behind the silverware lies a deeply personal story; one of resilience, heartbreak, and unshakable determination. In 2019, Enrique stepped away from football during his time as Spain’s national team coach after the tragic death of his 9-year-old daughter, Xana, who lost her battle with bone cancer. The podcast reflects on how he faced unimaginable grief and later returned to the sidelines with a renewed sense of focus, channeling his pain into purpose. We also explore the lesser-known side of Enrique — the ultramarathon runner, the iron-willed competitor, and the fitness fanatic who demanded relentless physical commitment from his players. His obsession with endurance has shaped not only the way his teams play but also the culture he instills: high pressing, relentless movement, and mental toughness. Where does Luis Enrique’s legacy stand now? From Gijón to Camp Nou to Paris, and from personal tragedy to professional triumph — this is a story of more than just football. It’s about the making of a modern great. 0:00 Introduction and Personal Reflection 00:32 Luis Enrique's Early Life and Background 04:15 Football Beginnings and Early Career 07:03 Transition to Real Madrid and Barcelona 16:06 International Career and Notable Incidents 22:52 Post-Playing Career and Coaching Beginnings 29:07 Luis Enrique's Coaching Journey 31:01 Barcelona's Missed Opportunity with Luis Enrique 32:36 Luis Enrique's Success at Celta Vigo 32:49 Barcelona's Second Chance with Luis Enrique 35:41 The Messi Conundrum 37:54 Luis Enrique's Triumphs and Challenges at Barcelona 44:53 The Tragic Loss of Luis Enrique's Daughter 47:15 Return to the Spanish National Team 52:26 Luis Enrique's Tenure at PSG 01:00:36 The Emotional Impact of Luis Enrique's Journey 01:02:41 Conclusion and Reflections Hosted on Acast. Julien Laurens, Pol Ballús, Seb Stafford Bloor and James Horncastle join Jimbo for a look ahead to matchday five in the Champions League - and a look back on the return to domestic action across Europe. All eyes on Anfield on Wednesday night as Real Madrid take on old friends Liverpool - having got right back into things in the La Liga title race with their commanding 3-0 win over Leganes which leaves them just four points behind leaders Barcelona with a game in hand. That’s after Hansi Flick’s side saw a two-goal lead slip away in their draw at Celta Vigo ahead of Tuesday night’s meeting with Brest. It’s still incredibly tight at the top in Serie A, with Napoli beating Roma 1-0 to spoil Claudio Ranieri’s first match back in charge - thanks to a goal from a certain Romelu Lukaku. The less said about Milan 0-0 Juventus the better as Thiago Motta’s side continue to uninspire with a trip to Villa Park looming on Wednesday… Bayern Munich and Harry Kane continue to lead the charge in the Bundesliga after their 3-0 win over Augsburg - but do they need a statement win against PSG to show their credentials? Plus, a big win for Dortmund on the pitch against Freiburg - but drama at their AGM off it. And in Ligue 1, PSG warmed up for that trip to the Allianz Arena with a 3-0 win over Toulouse - so can they finally translate their domestic dominance into a much-needed victory in the Champions League? Produced by Lucy Oliva. Inter take on Atletico having won 13 out of 13 in 2024. Why isn’t Simone Inzaghi being linked with more top jobs?
