Australia advance, Poland progress and Mexico come maddeningly close to qualifying

It’s Jimbo, Maram AlBaharna and Tim Spiers on the pod after Day 11 of the World Cup as Australia, Argentina and Poland advance to the knockout stages. Samantha Lewis joins us after Australia pulled off a shock knockout stage progression at Denmark’s expense. Argentina make early fears of a premature exit after their defeat to Saudi Arabia seem premature after a comfortable win over a Poland side who started counting yellow cards to avoid elimination. Mexico so nearly made it through but a conservative start to the tournament couldn’t be compensated for by a barnstorming finish against Saudi Arabia. Looking ahead, Belgium face behind the scenes bedlam and an improving Croatian side as obstacles to their progress in this World Cup. Kristoff Terreur gives us a review of what could be a hellish night for the Red Devils. This Totally Football Show was produced by Steve Hankey. Hosted on Acast. Rashford’s resurgence, Pulisic puts USA through & politics dominates Iran discourse

That’s a wrap for Groups A and B. England sailed past Wales with a resounding 3-0 win, courtesy of a remarkable Marcus Rashford brace and goal from Phil Foden. Gareth Southgate’s side will face Group A runners-up Senegal in the last-16. USA qualify in second place in Group B after their 1-0 win over Iran, and they will go up against Group A winners, the Netherlands. That match was largely overshadowed by the political tension surrounding Iran. Joining Adam Leventhal to bring us the stories of anti-Iranian government protests and how female Iran fans fear they are being spied on whilst attending games are Athletic writers Adam Crafton and Charlotte Harpur, while Jack Pitt-Brooke and Alex Abnos dissect the football. Episode 537 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Group Effed)

We're back with another packed show of Canadian national team and World Cup chat. After the promise and excitement of the Belgium game and the raised expectations that came with that excellent performance, Canada crashed and burned at the World Cup in their second match against Croatia and have been eliminated with one group game remaining. There's a lot to be proud of from a team that wasn't supposed to be in Qatar, rose in the rankings at a phenomenal pace, and ignited a whole new interest in and respect for the Canadian men's national team. They deserved to be there and they showed they belonged, performing tremendously in three of the four halves of football they've played so far. But there's also rightful criticism that can be levelled at the team for their team selection, tactics, and questionable off field decisions. We delve into all of that and a lot more and pose the question, what now for Canada? Not just in their one remaining match in Qatar but as they move forward and build, both on and off the pitch, heading into 2026.Plus we look back at all of the action so far in Qatar as the second round of group games come to a close and chat about some of the main talking points making the headlines. Here's the rundown for the main segments from the episode:01.30: Intro04.05: Canada eliminated after Croatia loss29.43: Supporter and media postgame takes47.52: What now for Canada now and heading into 2026?71.35: The 2022 World Cup - Groups A and B recaps84.35: Wavelength - Kunt and the Gang - Let's Have A Wank For England89.40: The 2022 World Cup - Groups C, D, and E recaps102.00: The 2022 World Cup - Groups G and H recaps

Will the LA Galaxy miss Vazquez? Will they sign CR7? Will Perez make a splash?

- 2022 COG T-SHIRTS! BUY NOW! http://www.cornerofthegalaxy.com/SHOP - SUBSCRIBE TO OUR PODCAST: http://cornerofthegalaxy.com/subscribe/ - COG LA GALAXY DISCORD: https://discord.gg/drr9HFZY2P COG STUDIOS, Calif. -- It's the quiet season. That's where the World Cup dominates soccer headlines even while Cristiano Ronaldo makes big news on and off the field. On today's show, host Josh Guesman wants to talk about why the LA Galaxy don't have much time to close a move for Ronaldo. It's now or never. And never is a real possibility. But could the Galaxy be that team that balances the East and the West coast? Josh also wants to talk about missing out on some of the things Victor Vazquez does well. And will his pick-up by Toronto mean he's never coming back to LA? Or does it just make it so much harder? And finally, what does a new contract for Johnny Perez mean for the 19-year-old's playing time with the first team? Probably nothing. Josh will explain. As always, thanks for joining us on this short update about your Galaxy. Do you think we got it all wrong? Then let us know!

Brazil bypass Switzerland, Ghana get away from South Korea and Portugal pass Uruguay

Jimbo, Sasha Goryunov and Duncan Alexander gather to summarise Day 9 of the World Cup. We had two contenders for game of the tournament on the same day! Cameroon took the lead against Serbia but the Serbs scored three in succession to lead 3-1 only for Cameroon to drag it back to 3-3. The result probably means both sides are out but Vincent Aboubakar did score a lovely lob. Ghana looked like they were sailing to victory with a 2-0 lead over South Korea heading into half time. Then two goals in three second half minutes saw South Korea level before Mohammed Kudus scored his second, Ghana’s third, and secure what could be a massive three points in Group H. Massive because Portugal’s win over Uruguay sees the Portuguese qualify and leaves Ghana in pole position to follow them through. Plus we look ahead to the biggest game at the tournament tomorrow… Iran vs USA. Bassil Mikdadi gives us the Iranian perspective on their winner takes all game. And The Athletic’s Sam Stejskal gives us the perspective from the American side. Produced by Charlie Jones & Steve Hankey Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
