Gary is joined by Sheffield United Individual Development Coach, Rhys Carr, who discusses his role, along with the dynamics of player development at the professional level. Rhys gives his perspective on "exposing the player" to their weaknesses in the development process. At youth level, you often see the best players cruise through training sessions, but Rhys explains how a young defender in the Premier League will find themselves up against the best opposition forward sooner rather than later, and there is no hiding place at that level. So testing and challenging the player in every session if possible, is key. He also talks about the process around "search-decide-execute" and how he factors that into the planning process for the young players. Player development is a complex process and Rhys gives an outstanding overview of the variables and factors that coaches at all levels need to take into consideration.

Bobby Linn interview; East Fife and Scottish football chat

Welcome to the sixth episode of your new favourite podcast - Glory Days of Gold. This episode is brought to you by My Sporting Blog and Jennifer Russell (@HairdressingPrincess). Recorded across two continents, Glory Days of Gold brings you a regular dose of East Fife FC and Scottish football chat, with a splattering of interesting interviews and fun segments thrown in along the way. Our guest this week is a man who may have only spent a short loan spell at East Fife, but who was taken to by the fans right away, Tam McManus. We take a journey through Tam's career that saw him play in Scotland, England, Ireland, and over the Atlantic for two spells in the US. The highs, the lows, the successes, and the regrets. There's some great stories along the way, including playing with Gazza, against David Beckham, playing in altitude for the first time, and best of all, his warm feelings for his time at Bayview. We delve into the current state of Scottish football and what needs to change, and find out why he doesn't like John Collins, yet champions what he could bring to improving the game here. There's some real honest talk in this and very enjoyable and refreshing it is too. Lee and Michael also look at all the East Fife related news from the past week, try to fix Scottish football, find out if current East Fife gaffer Darren Young fancies a chocolate digestive, and Cork band the Sultans of Ping FC feature in this week's Wavelength.
