Interview Series: Alex Kao - From Togo to France to the USA

We were so excited to have Alex Kao on the show. Alex has had an amazing soccer journey. He was born in Togo on Africa's West Coast and lived there until he was 9. Then he moved to France and joined the Red Star 93 academy around age 12. After that, he was recruited by Paris FC and joined their academy until it was time to make a tough decision about his career. Life led him to be recruited by a few Division 1 programs in the US and circumstance had him land in Louisburg College in North Carolina for 2 years before heading to the University of Connecticut to finish his collegiate career. From there, Alex turned pro with the Philadelphia Fury (after a stop at the DC United academy) and finally has landed back close to home with the Maryland Bobcats. Alex brings an interesting perspective to the American soccer landscape as an Academy Product of France. We chat about his personal soccer journey, his view on youth Soccer in America, what it takes to be a Professional, and more. Fun chat. Hope you enjoy it!

Adam Gotkin - The Voice of the Maryland Bobcats

I had the pleasure of chatting with Adam Gotkin, who is currently a Senior at Quince Orchard High School, and is the voice of the Maryland Bobcats. Adam has known that he has wanted to be in Sports Broadcasting/Journalism since he was a young child. At such a young age, he already has experience starting his own High School Sports broadcasting network (Quince Orchard Sports Network), calling games for the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League team in Gaithersburg (the Giants), and with the Maryland Bobcats FC. Adam is off to Syracuse next year to continue his pursuit of that dream. We talk about his preparation as a broadcaster, how he got involved with the Maryland Bobcats, his Twitter friendship with the infamous Arlo White, and then dive into NISA and USMNT a bit.

Invisible friend

For the last time in 2021, it’s the European edition with Jimbo, James Horncastle, Raphael Honigstein, Alvaro Romeo and Julien Laurens. Is the title race over in the Bundesliga? Are Nagelsmann’s Bayern better than Flick’s Bayern? Or Pep’s Bayern? Similarly Inzaghi’s done some wonderful interior design at Inter. Are the Nerazzurri playing some of their best football ever? Atletico lose a third league game in a row for the first time under Simeone but there’s hope for Barcelona thanks to their talented youngsters. The Coupe de France is marred by yet more crowd violence as the game between Paris FC and Lyon is abandoned at half-time. And we end with some Secret Santa – or at least its audio equivalent. Galaxy look to slow the Timbers in biggest game of the season

- SUBSCRIBE TO OUR PODCAST: http://cornerofthegalaxy.com/subscribe/ - COG LA GALAXY DISCORD: https://discord.gg/drr9HFZY2P - COG MERCHANDISE (SCARVES, T-SHIRTS, BUTTONS, COASTERS): http://www.cornerofthegalaxy.com/SHOP COG STUDIOS, Calif. -- There's hope for the LA Galaxy as they look to stop a very hot Portland Timbers side at Dignity Health Sports Park this weekend. But the Saturday night match is a big test for a team that hasn't won a big game this year. Could it be a make-or-break game for a Galaxy side looking for any momentum it can turn into points with just six games remaining? On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Eric Vieira want to get you ready for this weekend's big game while also trying to put into perspective the rest of the season. And all of that will happen while the Dodgers battle the Giants in an NLDS deciding game -- the guys even stall at the end to make sure we can wrap it up. They didn't want to leave any loose threads. The guys will start by talking about the likelihood that Dennis te Kloese will be leaving at the end of the season and why that puts a lot of focus on the remaining front office staff. Can Greg Vanney carry the momentum of the club through to the 2022 season? And why are we even talking about 2022 when the Galaxy still have games to play in 2021? The guys will wrap the international call-ups and tell you why some red flags surround Sebastian Lletget and Jonathan dos Santos country appearances. Plus, Josh and Eric will tell you who will be available for selection on Saturday -- that includes injury updates as well. Then there's some Hall of Fame talk around Robbie Keane and a brief look at Julian Araujo and Efrain Alvarez's inclusion in the "22 Under 22" list that MLS hypes every season. Do Josh and Eric agree with the rankings? Where would they put the Galaxy's two young standouts? Finally, there's an in-depth look at the game this weekend with quotes from Greg Vanney about how the Galaxy can succeed against a red-hot Portland side that is coming into LA with all their confidence. It's a Saturday night game that doesn't get much bigger. Can the Galaxy find a way to break their winless streak? As always, thanks for listening to us! We're glad we could get you ready for the Galaxy's last six games of the regular season.

LA Galaxy Youth Development - With General Manager Dennis te Kloese

- SUBSCRIBE TO OUR PODCAST: http://cornerofthegalaxy.com/subscribe/ - COG LA GALAXY DISCORD: https://discord.gg/drr9HFZY2P - COG MERCHANDISE (SCARVES, T-SHIRTS, BUTTONS, COASTERS): http://www.cornerofthegalaxy.com/SHOP COG STUDIOS, Calif. -- The term Youth Development is a favorite buzzword around Major League Soccer circles. The term can mean anything from what the LA Galaxy did with Gyasi Zardes to what they're trying to do with a young player like Alex Alcala. So what does it mean to an organization like the Galaxy? On today's special edition of Corner of the Galaxy, host Josh Guesman is joined by LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese for over 60 minutes of youth development discussion. Josh and Dennis will cover topics that range from why scouting and development are different and what the goal for the club is when developing players. Why scouting is an essential part of the equation, and what it takes to make these ventures pay off? They'll also discuss how the landscape has shifted in MLS and why going to Europe to develop seems to be something of the past and not something of the future. What are the pitfalls of youth development for a young player, and why is it so important to have parental buy-in and parental education. And why the interests of the club can usually match the interests of the player. And Josh will even throw in some important questions at the end, just to make sure everyone makes it through the discussion. This is an unprecedented look into the theories and the thought processes behind the Galaxy's development system and what Dennis sees as the next steps for the program. It's also why he views it as unfinished business! A big thank you to Dennis for taking the time to talk to us about this subject. And yes, he is definitely messing with you on Instagram. Thanks for listening and Watching!
