Episode 300 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Same Again - Vancouver v Dallas, Rahul Kholi, Jay Nolly) [NSFW]

What a weekend this could have been. Once again Vancouver Whitecaps had other results go in their favour and once again they failed to get the job done themselves. "Same again" said Carl Robinson, "not again" said the supporters. So our 300th episode isn't quite the celebratory start we'd hoped for as we pick over the bones of the 'Caps defeat to FC Dallas, but the fun soon starts to pick up after that! We have two interviews to bring you this week. First off all it's a blast from the past as we chat with Whitecaps legend Jay Nolly about his time with the 'Caps and his new career as a commentator for RSL. Next up is Rahul Kohli from iZombie to talk football, the last season of one of our favourite shows on TV right now, Funhaus, and racial stereotypes in the acting world. It's a great chat and we only wish we had double the time with him to get all our zombie questions out there! All this, plus we look at the weekend's action the MLS West, find out if Scott Arfield fancies a chocolate digestive, talk take out food with Jake Nerwinski and fish and chips with Kei Kamara, and there's a double dose of Wavelength to celebrate our milestone show featuring our favourites Half Man Half Biscuit and Frank Sidebottom. Here's the full episode rundown of the main segments from the show:04.05: Vancouver Whitecaps v FC Dallas match analysis28.15: Coaches audio - Carl Robinson and Oscar Pareja40.50: MLS West Week In Review52.44: Frankenstein's Monster - let's build the perfect Whitecap59.55: Fish and Chips with Kei Kamara62.25: Jay Nolly interview and discussion72.43: Wavelength - Half Man Half Biscuit - 1966 And All That80.29: Rahul Kohli interview93.32: Jake Nerwinski Take Me Out96.01: Wavelength - Frank Sidebottom - Three Shirts On A Line101.02: Anyone Fancy A Chocolate Digestive? - Scott Arfield107.40: BC Soccerweb headlines - a look at some stories from around the football world123.15: Southsiders GA discussion - not fun with flags

Episode 299 - The AFTN Soccer Show (No Room For Error - Vancouver v Dallas preview show)

Last week's loss to Seattle hit Vancouver Whitecaps' playoff hopes hard, but they're still hovering around the playoff line, albeit underneath it, as second placed FC Dallas come to town on Sunday. Joe, Nick, and Gideon look ahead to the match in this week's preview podcast. Can they bounce back from last week's loss? Are they meeting Dallas at the right time after their own mini dip in form? And is there really hope of the playoffs or are we simply grasping at a fantasy? There's a lot on the line, as there will be every week now going forward if the 'Caps can grind out results, and we bring you a new twist on the "Do You Know Who I Am?" game and it's a fun one.

Episode 298 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Fire Up The Bat Signal with guests Don Garber and Aly Ghazal)

Fire up the bat signal as Vancouver Whitecaps are going to need the help of a superhero or two if they want to get into the MLS playoffs. Or at least that's how it's looking after the 'Caps big 2-1 loss to Cascadian rivals Seattle Sounders on Saturday night. Joe Deasy joins us to look back on the game, all the big talking points to come out of it, and we hear from both head coaches. We also sit down with Whitecaps midfielder Aly Ghazal to talk about his, and the 'Caps', season so far and his recent recall to the Egyptian national team after a four year absence. Our main interview segment this week is with MLS commissioner Don Garber. We bring you the full, unedited 18 minute audio from his chat with ourselves and some other Vancouver media on Friday, as we talk about the league's growth, the schedule and playoff structure, DP's not playing on turf, how the CPL might impact the league in Canada, why Vancouver haven't hosted an All-Star game, and lots more. All this, plus we look at the weekend's action the MLS West and Los Campesinos feature in this week's Wavelength. Here's the full episode rundown of the main segments from the show:04.18: Vancouver Whitecaps v Seattle Sounders match analysis38.12: Coaches audio - Carl Robinson and Brian Schmetzer46.30: Aly Ghazal interview and chat58.55: Don Garber interview and discussion91.57: MLS West Week In Review106.58: Wavelength - Los Campesinos - Plan A111.10: BC Soccerweb headlines - a look at some stories from around the football world

Episode 297 - The AFTN Soccer Show (All Or Nothing - Vancouver v Seattle preview show)

Last year's playoff series with Seattle Sounders was a massive letdown for Vancouver Whitecaps supporters. The team's performance over the two legs was simply not good enough, and the lack of attacking desire in the home leg in particular was a major disappointment. The two teams meet at BC Place this weekend for the first time since that match, and for the second time this season. When the sides clashed in Seattle in July, the 'Caps kickstarted an eight-match unbeaten streak for the Sounders. If they want to keep their playoff hopes alive, they need to end it on Saturday. This time they have to attack and they have to win. It already feels all or nothing. Joe and Nick look ahead to the match in this week's preview podcast? How will the 'Caps replace the suspended Yordy Reyna? Can they stifle the Sounders midfield? And how are the Whitecaps playoff percentage chances akin to Donald Trump?! All that chat and more! There's a lot on the line and this week Joe has actually finally found a game that Nick does well at! Can you? Have a listen and find out!

Episode 296 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Crossroads with guests Scott Arfield and Tony Waiters)

The international break affords Vancouver Whitecaps a bye week, but there's no rest for us as we bring you another packed episode. The break gives us a chance to look ahead at what the Whitecaps squad could and should look like next season, as the team approaches their most important offseason in the MLS era. We've got two in-depth interviews with you this week, the first is with Canadian national team captain Scott Arfield, as he chats about international life and his big move to Rangers, plus on the 39th anniversary of the Whitecaps 1979 NASL Soccer Bowl win, we chat with the man who led that team to glory, and guided Canada to the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, Tony Waiters. We also look at the Canadian national team's record-breaking win over the US Virgin Islands and how the program is moving forward under John Herdman, while also hearing from the man himself. All this, plus we look at the main Whitecaps and Canadian Premier League news stories of the week and Flyscreen are back for this week's Wavelength. Episode 295 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Keeping It Tight with guests Chris Wondolowski, Felipe, Marcel de Jong, and Caleb Clarke)

Vancouver Whitecaps' playoff dreams are still alive. Likely looking in better shape than many people's underwear in the closing moments of their match with San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, but only just. Joe Deasy joins us in the studio this week to look over the Quakes match and what it might mean for the rest of the season as we break down every MLS Western team's run-in. Plus all the talking points to come from the game, we hear from both head coaches, and look at the week's other big stories in Whitecapsland. We've got a slew of interviews for you this week, kicking things off as we chat with San Jose's Chris Wondolowski as he approaches MLS' all time scoring record. Will he do it and will he be back for another season? We also sit down with the Whitecaps' Felipe to chat about his season, how he's settled in Vancouver, and the more defensive role he's being asked to play, and we talk the Canadian national team with Marcel de Jong. All this, plus we catch up with former Whitecaps MLS striker Caleb Clarke as he begins life at UBC with a bang, and after a four month absence, Half Man Half Biscuit are back for this week's Wavelength. Episode 294 - The AFTN Soccer Show (The State That We Are In)

At half time on Saturday, it felt like a seismic shift in Vancouver Whitecaps' season lay in store. By full time, it may have been a result that does that but in a completely opposite way. Trailing 2-0 to the worst team in all of MLS, the 'Caps dug deep and pulled out a 3-2 come from behind victory in San Jose. Is this a major mental turning point of their season or just another struggle against a poor team, albeit one that ended with three points for once? We look at that and all the other main talking points from the match and hear from both head coaches. Our big part three discussion topic this week focuses on the current state of the Whitecaps. We analyse some of 'Caps President Bobby Lenarduzzi's comments on TSN radio this week as we get set for what feels like the biggest offseason in the club's MLS era. We look at what the mandate for a new coach should be, what the Whitecaps' future should look like, how to integrate our youth talent better, and a lot more. All this, plus we talk ice cream with Kei Kamara, look at the weekend's action around MLS, and Argy Bargy are back in this week's Wavelength. Here's the full episode rundown of the main segments from the show:03.17: San Jose Earthquakes v Vancouver Whitecaps analysis27.55: Coaches audio - Carl Robinson and Mikael Stahre35.27: More Quakes v 'Caps chat49.02: Kei Kamara Ice Cream Man52.05: The State The Whitecaps Are In - Bobby on TSN radio, poor offseason rebuilding, biggest offseason to come, the need to integrate youth better, what the future has to look like84.12: MLS West week in review101.43: Wavelength - Argy Bargy - Hooligan's Heaven [explicit lyrics]106.27: BC Soccerweb headlines - a look at some stories from around the football world

Episode 292 - The AFTN Soccer Show (A Load Of Bull - Whitecaps v RBNY analysis, Tim Parker, Defensive struggles, Southsiders mess)

From the highs of Portland to the lows of Toronto. It had been a busy and mixed few days for Vancouver Whitecaps. A lot of ups and a lot of downs, so it was perhaps only expected that we got both of those in the 'Caps 2-2 draw with New York Red Bulls on Saturday. Depending on your glass half full/empty attitude to the 'Caps this season, this was either a battling point against one of the best teams in MLS this year, or two crucial points blown by an avoidable late goal. We take a look back at the match and hear from both head coaches. Coming out of the draw, and with the West looking tight but also close to getting away from the Whitecaps, we look a bit further ahead and look at the future of some players and coaches, and look yet again at the team's current defensive woes. All this, plus we hear from Tim Parker on his return to B.C. Place, talk about the mess the Vancouver Southsiders find themselves in after their recent statement about Kendall Waston, look at the weekend's action around MLS West, and Section 5 feature in this week's Wavelength. Here's the full episode rundown of the main segments from the show:02.11: Vancouver Whitecaps v New York Red Bulls match analysis26.24: Coaches audio - Carl Robinson and Chris Armas33.44: The future of some Whitecaps players and coaches49.21: The Whitecaps defensive woes (again)63.13: Tim Parker interview and discussion73.22: Tim Parker Ice Cream Man75.34: The Southsiders find themselves in a hole94.07: Wavelength - Section 5 - Every Saturday98.25: MLS West week in review109.30: BC Soccerweb headlines - a look at some stories from around the football world

Episode 291 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Streaky Breakin' - Timbers v Whitecaps analysis, TFC preview, Stefan Marinovic)

Big games require big performances with big moments. If Vancouver Whitecaps' showing in Portland this weekend is an indication, then the team look to have the stomach for the battle ahead. There's a lot to talk about and we have five of AFTN's finest to do just that, all of them from various places around Cascadia. With Steve home alone in upper Cascadia, and Zach stuck with a broken down car in middle Cascadia, Michael joins on the phone from the lower Cascadia coast to look back at the 'Caps fantastic win against the Timbers. A strong defensive team effort was on show and the guys break it down, with the help of some audio from both head coaches. Joe and Nick are in the house, their own one, not the studio, to bring their preview expertise to the show and look ahead to what is set to be a dramatic Canadian Championship final second leg in Toronto midweek. The 'Caps head in as the underdogs, but every dog has its day, so can Wednesday be the Whitecaps one? All this, plus we hear from Stefan Marinovic after the win in Portland, look at what the 'Caps lack of spending in this transfer window may mean, Zach joins Steve to look at the weekend's action around MLS West and Argy Bargy feature in this week's Wavelength. Here's the full episode rundown of the main segments from the show:02.25: Portland Timbers v Vancouver Whitecaps match analysis23.49: Coaches audio - Carl Robinson and Gio Savarese28.32: Whitecaps' player performances v Timbers39.18: Stefan Marinovic interview and discussion52.48: TFC v Whitecaps Canadian Championship final second leg preview78.57: Wavelength - Argy Bargy - Saturday's Glory85.48: MLS West week in review108.09: BC Soccerweb headlines - a look at some stories from around the football world

Episode 290 - The AFTN Soccer Show (A Storm In A V Cup - TFC postgame and Timbers preview show)

Vancouver Whitecaps' cups runneth over right now. Not only are they right in the middle of a tantalizingly balance Voyageurs Cup final with Toronto FC, but there's the small matter of a Cascadia Cup game down in Portland on Saturday. Joe and Nick look back at the night that was that Canadian Championship first leg. The highs, the lows, the even lower still. It was an evening of goals, stupid defending, and a referee taking centre stage. Oh Canada indeed. Then they turn their attention to Saturday's match in Portland. The Timbers are unbeaten in 15, looking to set a club record, and facing a Whitecaps team that are frankly knackered. It's going to be tough but is this the kind of game that Vancouver will shine in and surprise? Or is a derby day calamity awaiting those of us making the long trip down the I-5? Have a listen!

Episode 289 - The AFTN Soccer Show (No Room For Error)

August certainly feels like it could be a decisive month in terms of determining how successful we'll look back at Vancouver Whitecaps' 2018 season. It's started well. The 'Caps fielded an understrength side and took a point at New York City. Normally that would be considered a great result, and while good, it only saw them slip further behind in the chase for the playoffs. We look back at the match, hear from both head coaches, and delve into some individual player performances. We also look ahead to the first leg of the Canadian Championship final against Toronto FC on Wednesday, and hear some of the thoughts of Greg Vanney about how TFC will be approaching it. All this, plus does Kei Kamara fancy a chocolate digestive, what ice cream excites goalscorer Erik Hurtado, and we look at the weekend's action in the MLS West and The Last Resort feature in this week's Wavelength. Here's the full episode rundown of the main segments from the show:07.05: New York City FC v Vancouver Whitecaps match analysis27.02: Coaches audio - Carl Robinson and Domènec Torrent33.23: Whitecaps' player performances v NYC44.21: Erik Hurtado Ice Cream Man51.12: MLS West week in review62.49: The Whitecaps playoffs quest gets even tougher74.24: Anyone Fancy A Chocolate Digestive - Kei Kamara76.25: Whitecaps v TFC Canadian Championship preview - featuring Greg Vanney audio88.25: Wavelength - The Last Resort - Violence On Our Minds94.00: BC Soccerweb headlines - a look at some stories from around the football world

Episode 288 - The AFTN Soccer Show (A Puliser Prize - NYCFC v Vancouver Preview Show)

There's no rest for the wicked. Vancouver Whitecaps are in the midst of their toughest spell of the season with games coming thick and fast in both MLS and the Canadian Championship. The Whitecaps head to New York City on Saturday with the first leg of this year's Voyageurs Cup final coming up next Wednesday at home to Toronto firmly in their minds. Joe and Nick look ahead to the match with NYC. Can we expect mass rotation from Vancouver? Just what will that look like? And is there any expectation of whatever side the Whitecaps put out being able to get anything from an in-form team with an unbeaten home record? The guys chat about all this, plus talk salary dumps, Whitecaps season stats, and more. Have a listen!

TSMLS #41: Going Away Party

Andrew and Nick talk a good week for the Vancouver Whitecaps and Alphonso Davies, with Pride Night and continued leadup towards Davies' impending departure, as well as calamity teams and Seattle's NYCFC success.

Episode 286 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Darwinism - Vancouver v Minnesota Preview Show)

It's a grueling time for Vancouver Whitecaps. Three matches in eight days, with two of them in the space of four days, all of them crucial for how the season could play out, and it's sweltering hot outside. This will test a lot about the current 'Caps squad. After a gutless performance in Seattle, and a battling midweek one against Montreal to reach the Canadian Championship final, which Whitecaps team will we see turn up to take on an in-form Minnesota United side this weekend? Will there be more rotation to rest some guys up, or does Robbo ride a clean sheet and a good performance on Wednesday night with an almost same starting XI? Was that win against Montreal a blip or a turning point? How can the struggling Whitecaps defence cope with the huge danger posed by Minnesota's Darwin Quintero (9 goals and 6 assists), Christian Ramirez (7 goals and 2 assists), and Miguel Ibarra (6 goals and 6 assists)? Joe returns from baby daddy duties this week to discuss all of that and more with Nick, plus a quick look back over that win over the Impact, the Alphonso Davies transfer, and the guys play a frankly terrifying 'Choose Your Own Adventure' game with a Whitecaps twist. Have a listen!

Episode 284 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Cups Runneth Over - Seattle v Vancouver Preview Show)

Two Cup matches in four days. Three in eight. Usually that would be a yes please from us, but with Vancouver Whitecaps in a bit of a slump after three defeats in their last four matches, we're at what feels like a crucial turning point in the 'Caps season. Will they be able to follow the right path to success or does a trip to a witch in a gingerbread house await? With Joe away on baby daddy duty (sidenote - the 'Caps haven't won a match since the kid was born. Not saying he's a jinx, but...), Gideon and Nick look ahead to the task awaiting the 'Caps in Seattle on Saturday, following on from Wednesday night's dismal display in Montreal. Can they get back to winning ways and save their season? Have a listen!

TSMLS #39- Do You Want To Fine Me?

Nick is back to talk Major League Soccer, and he picked a great weekend to return: there were red cards, cussy tirades and both Toronto FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps scored in stoppage time in losses.

Episode 283 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Capital Punishment - DC v Vancouver analysis, World Cup, Dale Mitchell, Colin Elmes)

Vancouver Whitecaps' seesaw of a season continued this past weekend as they went down to a 3-1 loss at the hands of D.C. United in the US capital. We analyse the main talking points to come out of the game, hear from 'Caps coach Carl Robinson, and ponder where the team can go from here. We also look ahead to the midweek Canadian Championship semi-final in Montreal and get some thoughts from Whitecaps President Bob Lenarduzzi on how the club view the Voyageurs Cup. Plus a look at the weekend in the MLS West and we make Mike Petke's postgame rant on Saturday even more epic. We've got two interviews for you this week. The first is with a Canadian Hall of Famer - a member of Canada's only ever World Cup squad from Mexico 1986, Dale Mitchell. We talk World Cup memories and his hopes for what the Canadian Premier League will do for the latest crop of talent as they build towards 2026, and maybe even 2022. We also chat with TSS Rovers head coach Colin Elmes about his team's second season in the PDL and what he's learned from it to take into their third one next year. All this, plus lots of World Cup talk, World Cup Wavelength continues this week with a song from 1998, and some Canadian Premier League chat. Episode 282 - The AFTN Soccer Show (First Big Weekend featuring Bastian Schweinsteiger, Stefan Marinovic, Vancouver v Chicago analysis, and World Cup chat)

Just like a never ending game of snakes and ladders, Vancouver Whitecaps got themselves off a two match slippery slope, finding a rung to take their trajectory upwards again in a match between two teams that feel like they would struggle to find consistency in the dictionary. Chicago Fire came to town and left on the end of 3-2 victory for Vancouver. We look back at the highs and lows of the match and the players' performances, hear from both head coaches, Chicago's Veljko Paunović and Vancouver's Carl Robinson, and chat about some of the latest Whitecaps news, from the continuing Davies to Europe rumours to the new U23 team the 'Caps are in the process of setting up. We've got two interviews for you this week. The first is with Chicago's World Cup winner, German legend Bastian Schweinsteiger who talks to us about his move to MLS, Saturday's match and playing on turf, and his thoughts on Alphonso Davies. Next up is Whitecaps goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic as we take a trip down World Cup memory lane armed with some Panini sticker albums. We find out the first tournament he can remember watching, how this year wasn't the first year he came heartbreakingly close to being at a World Cup, and look back at New Zealand's 1982 and 2010 World Cup squads. All this, plus lots of World Cup chat and orld Cup Wavelength continues this week with Weezer. Episode 280 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Kicky Kicky Kick Kick - Vancouver v Colorado analysis, Kendall Waston, Tim Howard, World Cup chat)

Vancouver Whitecaps must be wishing that the World Cup "break" was still going on. I know we do! Two defeats in two matches against two lowly teams has derailed all the good work done before the break and put the Whitecaps playoff hopes very much in trouble as they slip further behind in the points per game standings. We look back at Vancouver's Canada Day defeat at home to Colorado Rapids. What went wrong? How much of it was on the 'Caps and how much was down to the play of the visitors? And where does the team go from here? We also hear from both head coaches, Colorado's Anthony Hudson and Vancouver's Carl Robinson, plus we speak with Tim Howard, who had a lot to say about Vancouver fans and MLS security after the game. We also look back at what came out of the Whitecaps Town Hall meeting midweek and chat about a fantastic week of World Cup action and what lies ahead. Plus our exclusive chat with Kendall Waston upon his return from Russia after an eventful tournament with Costa Rica. Plus we take great joy at wallowing in Zach's German gloom and play one of the worst World Cup songs of all time, and that's saying something! We also bring you a double dose of Wavelength this week featuring Bell and Sebastian and Halftime Oranges. Episode 279 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Sideshow Meh - Vancouver v Colorado Preview Show)

Let's be honest, is anyone really all that excited about watching MLS matches when the World Cup is on? It was bad enough last week when Vancouver Whitecaps put in one of their worst performances of the season as they lost in Philadelphia. Now they have one of the worst teams in MLS this year coming to BC Place on Canada Day. Joe and Gideon look ahead to the match, discussing such things as what threat Colorado pose Vancouver, whether the Rapids have turned things around after last week's win, and what changes we might see to put some spark back into the Whitecaps. All that and more, plus a healthy dose of World Cup chat thrown into the mix as well. Have a listen!

Episode 278 - The AFTN Soccer Show (The Spice Of Life with guest Rob Friend)

Variety is the spice of life. Or say they say. Hopefully it is as we have a variety of subjects to cover in the latest episode of the AFTN Soccer Show. We kick things off in MLS by looking at the disaster that was Vancouver Whitecaps trip to Philadelphia. What went wrong? Were there any positives to take from such a result? Either way, we're back with our latest preview show setting up the 'Caps trip to Philadelphia on Saturday. Joe, Nick, and Gideon look ahead to what may lie in store during the match. Episode 275 - The AFTN Soccer Show (System Addict with guests Stefan Marinovic, Simon Colyn, and Marco Carducci)

Vancouver Whitecaps head into their bye week (call it what it is) unbeaten in six and starting to find some attacking form. The defence is still looking a bit dodgy and they still struggle at times when they have a man advantage, but there's a lot more optimistic feel around the place than it was perhaps a month ago. We look back at the 'Caps five star win over Orlando on Saturday - the highs, the lows, and how some of the players are shaping up at this near midway point of the season. We also hear postgame comments from both coaches, Orlando's Jason Kreis and Vancouver's Carl Robinson. We have three interviews for you this week. First up, the 'Caps Kiwi keeper Stefan Marinovic talks about his injury, rehab, and when he expects to be back in the starting line-up. Then we catch up with Vancouver's latest homegrown signing, Simon Colyn, as we talk about his first professional contract, the Canadian championship, and more. We also have more Canadian Premier League chat for you this week as we look at the addition of teams in Winnipeg and Edmonton, and we chat with former Whitecap Marco Carducci about his hopes for the league and playing for his hometown club in Calgary. We look back at Vancouver Whitecaps' 2-1 win over Colorado Rapids on Friday night, analysing the performance, which players stood out, and some of the other talking points coming out of the game. Episode 272 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Quick On The Draw - Colorado v Vancouver Preview Show)

Vancouver Whitecaps are only two more draws away from equaling the MLS record of six straight games sharing the points. Three more and they set a new record. Come on boys, you can do it. Let's go out there and make some history! There's every chance they'll inch closer to it on Friday when they travel to the Rocky Mountain state, not for chocolate covered cravings but to take on Colorado Rapids in MLS action. The Rapids are bad this year. If the Whitecaps can't beat them, do they deserve to even make it to the playoffs? Joe, Nick, and Gideon ponder that question, plus look at the dangers Colorado pose to the Vancouver defence, and the dangers Tim Howard poses to his own one. Who will win the golden ticket in this week's Whitecaps rotation lottery? Has Kei Kamara put his misses behind him or will we see him drop to the bench this week? And who steps up to fill Kendall Waston's huge shoes in the centre of the 'Caps defence? All this plus Do You Know Who I Am? and our prediction game in our latest episode. Have a listen!

Another week, another draw, another week, another match of individual errors, another week, another game of frustration. Welcome to Vancouver Whitecaps World 2018. Episode 270 - The AFTN Soccer Show (All Revved Up - New England preview show)

With his teacup spinning days sadly in the past, Gideon returns to the fold this week to rejoin up with Joe and Nick to look ahead to Vancouver Whitecaps' Saturday afternoon encounter with New England Revolution. They don't want to change the world, they're just looking at New England, but they have been buoyed by the 'Caps late dramatic draw in Dallas. Will it be four draws on the bounce or can the Whitecaps finally snap out of their disappointing home form and get back to winning ways? Who poses the danger for New England? Will Teal Bunbury's resurgence continue in the country he turned his back on? And how will the 'Caps line up for this one, another 4-4-2? These are just a few of the many questions they ponder. All this plus Do You Know Who I Am? and our prediction game in our latest episode. Have a listen!

Episode 269 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Never Say Dai - Dallas v Vancouver analysis, Marcel de Jong and Kekuta Manneh interviews, Canadian PL chat)

It's a long weekend, so we have an extra long episode of the AFTN Soccer Show for you as we took over the airwaves at CiTR radio for two and a half hours on Sunday night. Vancouver Whitecaps showed a never say die spirit in Dallas on Saturday afternoon (or should that be Dai with a Welshman in charge?), fighting back from 2-0 down to score a couple of very late goals to earn the unlikeliest of points. We look back over the dramatic afternoon and chat about the main talking points coming out of it. Plus we hear from both head coaches, Dallas' Oscar Pareja and Vancouver's Carl Robinson. We've got two feature interviews for you this episode. First up is Whitecaps' Canadian defender Marcel de Jong, as he joins us to chat about the stability of signing a new contract extension. Then former Whitecap Kekuta Manneh joins us to chat about his move to Mexico, Columbus Crew falling short in their quest for last year's MLS Cup, and what it means to his hometown of Austin to possibly be getting a new MLS team. Episode 266 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Current Direction - Vancouver v Houston Preview)

Finally, we have back to back home games! But be careful what you wish for because that means watching Vancouver Whitecaps live twice in the space of six days. Are you ready for that? We'll try and help you get ready for the first match on Friday, as we take a look at all things Houston Dynamo in AFTN's latest preview podcast. They're a team that don't travel well, but are coming off a late 3-2 win over LA Galaxy. Are they hitting form at just the worst time for the 'Caps? Can a shaky Vancouver defence handle the likes of Elis and Quioto? What changes will Carl Robinson make this week? And will anyone be on the end of all those crosses this game? Gideon is away dressing up as a Disney Princess for this episode, raising the average age of the team to not quite DC United levels, but getting up there. So that leaves Joe and Nick to chat about all of the above and much more, including World Cup jerseys, answering a barrage of listeners questions, and playing our prediction game. Have a listen!

Episode 265 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Stinko de Mayo)

Remember when Vancouver Whitecaps were being lauded for their excellent road record? That seems so long ago now. Saturday's 1-0 loss in Minnesota was the third straight away defeat for the 'Caps. This one against an already undermanned team that played 40 minutes of the second half with ten men. Definitely a Cinco de Mayo to forget. We look back at the high and lows from the match, talk line-ups and formations, bring you our latest player rankings, and hear from both head coaches, Minnesota's Adrian Heath and Vancouver's Carl Robinson. Where now for the Whitecaps? Did the RSL win last week just paper over the cracks or should we just be content that the team is currently sitting in third spot? We also see how the weekend played out for the MLS western teams, discuss the latest big Canadian Premier League news and other headlines, play another round of Do You Know Who I Am? and Half Man Half Biscuit return for our Wavelength section. Episode 264 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Loony Tunes - Minnesota v Vancouver Preview)

It wasn't pretty at times but Vancouver Whitecaps got back to winning ways last weekend against Real Salt Lake. Can they keep it going back on the road, and make it two straight wins as they head into Minnesota to take on the United Loons? Joe, Nick, and Gideon are back to look ahead to that Minnesota match and what to make of a United team that's had a very up and down season so far. How big a threat will Darwin Quintero be to the 'Caps defence and do they have any other one with all their injury woes? On Vancouver's side, who keeps their spot after last week's win and which players that missed out will come back into the mix? We look at all that, plus a lot more, and bring you, not one, but two, "Do You Know Who I Am?" segments, our prediction game, and preview TSS Rovers second PDL season. Have a listen!

Episode 263 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Taps-Aff)

The questions everyone wanted answered after last week's hammering in Kansas City was how would Vancouver Whitecaps' players react and what kind of mood would the fans be in. After a week building up to it, we got some answers at BC Place on Friday night. The Whitecaps got the job done against Real Salt Lake and came away with all three points, but it wasn't a performance for the ages against a pretty poor looking visiting side. Still, three points are three points and it ended the 'Caps three game losing streak. Steve, Zach, and Chris pick over the bones of it all. Is it a turning point or was it just papering over the cracks? We also hear from both head coaches, discuss the dissenting voices amongst the media and fanbase leading up to the match, see how the weekend played out for the MLS western teams, discuss the latest big Canadian Premier League news, and Culture Vulture has a song about Roy of the Rovers in our Wavelength section. Episode 262 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Feeling Salty)

Friday's match against Real Salt Lake isn't so much a must win for Vancouver Whitecaps, as a must not lose. A defeat would certainly pile pressure on beleaguered coach Carl Robinson, but it's not likely going to be the tipping point. This is very much an avoid defeat at all costs encounter, as the 'Caps try to put an end to their three game losing streak. Joe, Gideon, and Nick are back to look ahead to Friday's match at BC Place. Were lessons learned from the 2-1 loss in Utah just three weeks ago? RSL are winless on the road, what kind of team and threat can we expect from them here in Vancouver? With the importance of this match, and with some players missing through suspension and injury for the 'Caps, does Carl Robinson blow up the team and try something different, or does he have to persevere with his regular base and hope they can turn things around? We look at all that, plus a lot more, and bring you another "Do You Know Who I Am?" and our prediction game. Have a listen!

Episode 261 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Hit For Six)

If last week was a bad weekend for Vancouver Whitecaps, this one was far worse. Not only did they lose 6-0 in Kansas City, seven of their Western rivals picked up three points and they fell out of the promotion places when you look at points per game. Clearly not the response sought or expected after the failings in the last two matches. We pick over carcass of that loss in KC and there's a lot to ponder. Where did it all go wrong and where does the team go from here? Team selection, tactics, poor discipline, horrible defending, and Robbo's postgame comments. We talk about all those things and a lot more. Plus we have a chat with LAFC assistant coach Marc Dos Santos, see how the weekend played out for the MLS western teams, find out if the Cap killer Johnny Russell fancies a chocolate digestive, play Do You Know Who I Am? and Half Man Half Biscuit are back in our Wavelength section.

Episode 260 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Bring Me Sunshine - KC Preview Show with guest Johnny Russell)

Vancouver Whitecaps are back on the road again, so at least there's perhaps some hope of getting something out of this week's match! After two straight defeats can Carl Robinson find a band of sunshine for his squad in KC? Joe, Gideon, and Nick are back with AFTN's latest preview podcast. They'll look at the threat posed by Sporting Kansas City, what changes the Whitecaps might be looking to make, and how they see the game playing out. With Kei Kamara out for three weeks, how will Anthony Blondell fare up front? Can this help unleash the Yordy Reyna we knew and loved last season? And just what midfielders will we see this week? We discuss all this and a lot more. We have a special guest this week as Michael sits down for a chat with Sporting KC forward, and fellow Scot, Johnny Russell (at 09.15 mark) to talk about his move to MLS, settling in at KC, his growth as a player from his early days in Scottish football, this weekend's match, and more. Plus another "Do You Know Who I Am?" and our prediction game. Have a listen!

Episode 259 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Bad Weekend with guests Jordan Harvey and Russell Teibert)

Sick of teams from LA yet? I know we are. LAFC came to BC Place on Friday night and fairly easily picked apart an uninspiring and disappointing Kamaraless Vancouver Whitecaps. We do some picking ourselves, as we pick over the bones of the 2-0 loss, ponder where it all went wrong, how it can be improved, can we cope without Kei, where's the creativity, and where do some players fit into this team. Plus we sit down for a chat with Russell Teibert and talk with Jordan Harvey about his homecoming. We'll also look at the weekend's action amongst the MLS Western Conference teams and Flyscreen feature in this week's Wavelength section with a song about Panini stickers and Willie Johnston. Episode 256 - The AFTN Soccer Show (Snowballs - RSL Preview Show)

What's the difference between snowmen and snowwomen? Snowballs. What's the difference between Vancouver Whitecaps April trip to play Real Salt Lake and last years? Snowballs. What a difference a year makes. When the 'Caps headed to Sandy, Utah around this time last season, the pitch was unplayable, covered in snow, and players were throwing snowballs at each other. This time around it's going to be rainy and in the mid teens temperature wise. The 'Caps will also be hoping for a different result and in the road form that they're in, you have to fancy them to get it. Joe, Gideon, and Nick are back with AFTN's latest preview podcast. They'll look at the threat posed by Real Salt Lake, what changes the Whitecaps might be looking to make, and how they see the game playing out. Plus another "Do You Know Who I Am?" and our prediction game. Have a listen!

It's good to have constants in your life, right? When a weakened team comes to B.C. Is Sigi Schmid going to turn them around this season? They've a win and a loss under their belts so far and head to BC Place on Saturday night to take on a Whitecaps side looking to secure their best ever start to a MLS season.Joe Deasy, Gideon Hill, and Nicolaas Rupprecht preview the match, looking at what we can expect from the Galaxy, what will the Whitecaps look like, can they bounce back from the loss in Atlanta pretty quickly, and a lot more.
