Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford-Bloor, Pol Ballús and James Horncastle are back with Jimbo to reflect on another busy weekend of European action - and look ahead to matchday three in the Champions League. In La Liga, Barcelona put five past Sevilla while Real Madrid extended their unbeaten league run to 42 games ahead of a tantalising El Clásico coming up on Saturday night when Los Blancos could equal the record - set by Barca no less! But there’s a stern test for Hansi Flick to navigate in midweek first - with their nemesis and his former side Bayern Munich in town… Speaking of, Harry Kane was back to scoring ways (after a whole three games without a goal) as he bagged a hat-trick in Bayern’s 4-0 win over Stuttgart to warm up for the trip to Spain in style. There were also Bundesliga wins for Leverkusen and Dortmund - who continue to bewilder with their mixed form under Nuri Sahin as they prepare to face Real Madrid in a rematch of this summer’s Champions League final. It was a weekend of fine margins over in Italy, with Napoli, Inter, Milan and Juventus all winning 1-0. It’s Antonio Conte’s men who lead the way at the top of the Serie A table - while Roma’s frustrating start under Ivan Juric continues. And in France, PSG are beginning to purr with Bradley Barcola starring once again in their 4-2 win over Strasbourg - taking full advantage after early leaders Monaco were held to a goalless draw by Lille. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Moments of the weekend (0.45) • PART 2: La Liga review - Barcelona & Real Madrid win ahead of big UCL midweek (12.45) • PART 3: Bundesliga review - Bayern put 5 past Sevilla ahead of trip to Spain (25.30) • PART 4: Ligue 1 review - PSG take back top spot after Monaco draw (38.55) • PART 5: Serie A review - 1-0’s across the board for the big boys (49.40) Hosted on Acast. Kelly Cates is alongside Jamie Carragher, Daniel Sturridge, and Micah Richards to discuss Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Chelsea in what was an incident-packed match at Anfield. Curtis Jones was the standout performer and Carragher feels the midfielder’s display shows why the club did not need to sign Martin Zubimendi in the summer. Richards believes Liverpool showed they are genuine title challengers now, saying that ‘they have a real chance to go all the way this year’. Pat Davison gets reaction from both dressing rooms including player of the match Curtis Jones and Chelsea captain Reece James. Both Arne Slot and Enzo Maresca also give their views on the result and the studio guests reflect on the earlier game on Super Sunday that saw Manchester City score a stoppage-time winner at Wolves. Paris Saint-Germain surprised many during the summer transfer window by not finding a direct replacement for Kylian Mbappé (25) after his free transfer to Real Madrid. However, with Bradley Barcola’s (22) impressive start to the season, PSG may have validated their decision to skip signing another left-winger. Barcola, a former Lyon player, joined the Ligue 1 champions in the summer of 2023. Fans of Lyon were puzzled by his choice, given the fierce competition in Luis Enrique's forward line. Mbappé was seen as nearly irreplaceable in Paris, and with Barcola's preference for playing on the left, it seemed likely he would see limited playing time. Initially, that concern proved accurate, as the Lyon academy graduate struggled to secure a spot in the starting lineup early on. However, he gradually established himself as a reliable option next to Mbappé before the conclusion of the previous season. Now, with the France captain having moved to Spain, Barcola has emerged as a key player for PSG this season. Could he be the solution to filling the void left by Mbappé? Having started as a striker at Lyon's youth academy, scoring has always been part of Barcola's game, a facet he aimed to enhance. While he showed effectiveness in attacking positions during his time at PSG and Lyon, he often played a creative role rather than a finishing one, netting 9 goals in 51 appearances during his first two Ligue 1 seasons. This season, however, Barcola seems to have elevated his goal-scoring prowess. As of now, he leads the league with 6 goals in his first 6 matches. Despite starting every game, he hasn't played the full 90 minutes each time, totaling 374 minutes of action. His strike rate translates to a goal every 62 minutes, placing him among the elite in Europe. Since emerging at Lyon, Barcola has not lacked confidence, but the added responsibility this season has appeared to unlock new potential. He has assumed a leadership role in the attack, embodying the concept of leading by example through his performances. With remarkable skill and impressive dribbling, Barcola creates spectacular moments on the field. Defensively, his tireless work ethic and effectiveness in regaining possession make him a coach's ideal player. Compiling all his attributes, the 21-year-old has become essential this season, making the departure of Mbappé much more manageable for PSG.
