"What is undoubtedly the biggest profile game of the 3rd round: first place Liverpool, face the team who were champions of Christmas. But… Liverpool are already in the Carabao Cup semi-final and will face up to Fulham on Wednesday in the first leg of that clash. With the league title-race front of mind, will Jurgen Klopp really want to clutter the fixture list further with an FA Cup run for his now Mo Salah-less side?" Rog previews a weekend of FA Cup Wonder as Liverpool travel to Arsenal, Newcastle travel to arch rivals Sunderland, and Wrexham visit just across the border neighbors Shrewsbury. The Weekend Preview returns for 2024 with an FA Cup special. Headlining the show is the first Tyne-and-Wear derby since 2016, as a wounded Newcastle head to their local rivals Sunderland. Meanwhile, the highest-profile clash sees fourth-place Arsenal welcome table-topping Liverpool on Sunday. Arsenal are in poor form, but how much will Liverpool miss Mo Salah, who’s just left for AFCON? Another all-Premier League tie is Brentford vs Wolves, which Jon Mackenzie is off to attend. With Brentford only a couple of places outside the relegation zone, could a cup win re-ignite their season? And finally, we whip out the crystal ball and offer some predictions for the year ahead, covering winners, losers, new trends and best players. David Mooney is joined by City fan Ciaran Murray and The Athletic's Mark Critchley to look ahead to that tie - and also to reflect on the solid, if unspectacular, 2-0 win over Sheffield United. They look at the impact of Rodri on the team and Phil Foden's progress in the centre of the pitch - plus what opportunities could be afforded to players when facing a lower-league opponent in the cup. Matt Shaw from the Huddersfield podcast 'And He Takes That Chance' speaks to the show to give insight into their season so far. Sam Rosbottom is looking at City's only experience of Rounds One and Two of the FA Cup in the last century, plus we look at whether City are discussed differently than other teams who may be in FFP trouble... and which players would make good Traitors... ========= To get bonus podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/BlueMoonPodcast Learn more about your ad choices. Joe Devine, JJ Bull and Reuben Pinder are here to talk about some football. Before we, eventually, get into the show proper. We have a bit of an announcement… Arsenal managed to draw another game, this time against relegation candidates Southampton. Newcastle Utd hammered Tottenham Hotspur 6-1 at St James Park. We recorded before Cristian Stellini left the club and they have, as Pinder predicted, “given it Mason” for the rest of the season. Man Utd are in the FA Cup final after knocking out Brighton on penalties. Wrexham have secured promotion from the National League and their “Hollywood” story, I know I know, continues. And, not at JJ’s suggestion surprisingly, we talk about Aberdeen because they’re doing real good right now.
