We begin by looking at Arsenal’s 5-0 win hosting Leeds. Jonathan talks of a bouncing mood in the Emirates unveiling Eze. Will this finally be Arsenal’s year? Next to Nuno Espirito Santo’s spat with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis; will Nuno walk? Elsewhere, to Spurs’ impressive victory at Man City. Mark suggests whatever the manager, Spurs win at the Eithad! John mentions he loves Pep, but questions whether he can rebuild City. Then to West Ham, and is Graham Potter’s time ticking with the Hammers? John believes Potter inherited a poor squad but after twenty-one games, West Ham have won only five and lost eleven, so the pressure is inevitably on. Vicky Gomersall is joined by The Mirror's Darren Lewis and Sky Sports News reporter Gary Cotterill to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action. We begin by looking at both Manchester sides; Darren believes it has to be a big summer for United, who must compete against the likes of rising teams Newcastle, Chelsea and Villa (as well as Arsenal, Liverpool and City). Gary believes United will be challenging for the top four next season. Also, Ben Ransom sits down with Pep Guardiola to talk about Kevin De Bruyne announcing his City departure, what Pep has learnt in this tough campaign, and whether he would have been sacked if it wasn’t for his prior success. Next to Arsenal, who after their eleventh draw of the season at Goodison, are very much Madrid or bust in the Champions League. Gary attributes the Gunners’ league downfall to injuries and lack of a striker, but believes, after a recent trip to London Colney, that Mikel Arteta knows he has his striker of choice in summer. And finally, pressure on Ange Postecoglou, with boos on the touchline and a challenging week with the media. Gary names Tottenham v Southampton ‘the depressed derby’ but the Europa League may be the saving grace. Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. It's West v North London on Clash of the Correspondents this week as James is joined by Chelsea fan Gary Mantle and Tottenham Hotspur fan Ricky Saunders to discuss managers, expectations and FPL ahead of next Thursday's GW30 meeting at Stamford Bridge. Both managers are under scrutiny with Chelsea fans seemingly split at the moment on Enzo Maresca, with form inconsistent, and qualification for next season's Champions League in the balance. And is it win the Europa League or bust for Ange Postecoglu? It's beginning to feel like it might be. That makes investment in Tottenham players in FPL awkward with the Europa clearly the priority, but with many FPL managers set to Wildcard in GW31 and with Tottenham then facing Southampton and Wolves is there something that can be punted on? There's coverage of Chelsea assets too, with their next 3 looking good for the potential the attacking players, but Christopher Nkunku remains inconsistent, Nicolas Jackson has been a huge miss, and Cole Palmer hasn't scored since Jackson got injured. Is Palmer's injury and form cause for genuine concern? Rick Edwards heads to Brentford’s training ground to speak to head coach Thomas Frank and the club’s psychologist Michael Caulfield. They sit down in the manager’s office to discuss the evolution of psychology in football, dealing with the extreme highs and lows and unique pressures. Thomas Frank was appointed Bees boss back in October 2018 making him the second longest serving manager in the Premier League behind Pep Guardiola. Jimbo’s got Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford-Bloor, Rory Smith and Pol Ballús alongside him for all the latest continental chatter. Friday afternoon’s Champions League draw presented some fascinating match-ups including Real v Atleti, Bayern v Bayer and PSG v Liverpool. We’ve got a closer look at all those ties with the round of 16 looming… In La Liga, it was a rare weekend where all three title challengers registered three fairly comfortable wins! It leaves Barca and Real locked on 54 points at the top, with Atleti just a point behind. Over in France there was plenty of drama on and off the pitch - with cowboy hats, calls of corruption and meltdowns caught on CCTV. But away from all that, the table shows that PSG have extended their lead at the top to 13 points after their 3-2 victory at Lyon. Speaking of corruption - Slovenian ref Slavko Vincic was parachuted in to referee the Istanbul derby after a season marred by controversial officiating and allegations of foulplay. It was a rather eventful evening as Galatasaray said they would "initiate criminal proceedings" against Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho after claiming he made "racist statements" following the teams' 0-0 draw. For a closer look at Serie A we’re joined by Sky Italia’s Filippo Benincampi - as Cesc’s Como got the better of Conte’s Napoli to cost them top spot, Inter taking full advantage with their 1-0 win over Genoa. And in the Bundesliga, there were finally signs of life for Dortmund as Niko Kovac picked up his first league win courtesy of a four-goal haul from Serhou Guirassy, aided by super sub and Chelsea loanee Carney Chukwuemeka. Produced by Lucy Oliva. There comes a point in every manager’s journey where the fans stop and say: “Have you taken us as far as you can?” It’s been over five years since Mikel Arteta was appointed Arsenal manager and in that time they’ve won just one FA Cup (plus a couple of Community Shields, for whoever counts those). Marcus, Luke & Jim discuss whether it’s got to the point where Arteta needs to bring a trophy back to the Emirates or risk being left behind. Jimbo assembles Duncan Alexander, Daniel Storey and Matt Davies-Adams onto the pod after a stunning and seismic weekend of Premier League football. Liverpool inflict a 4th successive league defeat on champions Man City at Anfield. Arne Slot’s serene start continues as the Reds go 9 points clear in the title race. Who are the most likely challengers? Is it Chelsea for whom Caicedo and Cucurella are playing sensationally? Or is it free-scoring Arsenal? And are we getting fooled into thinking Bukayo Saka will break the assist record? It’s an emphatic victory for Man United in Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge as the pressure mounts on Sean Dyche at Everton. Pol Ballús, Julien Laurens, Seb Stafford Bloor and James Horncastle are alongside Jimbo for your weekly dose of action from across the continent. We’ve reached the halfway stage of the Champions League league phase, with some tasty matchday four ties to preview including Inter v Arsenal, Liverpool v Leverkusen and PSG v Atléti. Domestically, it was a reduced schedule in Spain following the devastating flash floods in Valencia. We discuss the reaction to any football at all being played following the natural disaster - which included Barcelona's derby win over Espanyol. Napoli were stunned in their own backyard, handed a 3-0 defeat by Atalanta in Antonio Conte’s first defeat since his first game in charge. It means Inter are just a point off top spot in Serie A as they closed the gap thanks to a 1-0 victory over strugglers Venezia. In Ligue 1, PSG extended their lead to six points thanks to a narrow 1-0 win over Lens to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign. After being unbeaten since April, it’s now back-to-back defeats for Monaco as Adi Hütter’s men slipped to third following their 1-0 defeat by Angers. And in the Bundesliga, Dortmund picked up a precious three points for beleaguered manager Nuri Şahin as they inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Leipzig. Bayern took full advantage, scoring goals for fun to move three points clear at the summit - while Leverkusen find themselves seven points off the pace after their goalless draw with Stuttgart. Plus, are Ajax finally back?! Michiel Jongsma joins us to reflect on Saturday’s 3-2 win over PSV - which moves Francesco Farioli’s side five points behind Eredivisie leaders Eindhoven with a game in hand. *** We’ve been nominated for Podcast of the Year at the 2024 Football Supporters’ Association Awards! Kelly Cates presents Super Sunday from Old Trafford and is joined by Jamie Redknapp, Darren Bent and Ashley Young who watched Tottenham comprehensively beat Manchester United 3-0. Gary Neville watched from the gantry as Spurs impressed and outclassed their opponents from the very start but United aided them with a lacklustre performance. Neville labelled the display as a ‘shocking and sobering day’ for the club. Redknapp agreed and believes Man United’s progression is going backwards, going on to say that ‘they’re at rock bottom at the moment’. The hosts' task was made even more difficult when Bruno Fernandes was dismissed for a high challenge on James Maddison minutes before half-time. The Red Devils captain spoke after the match and felt the tackle did not warrant a red card by referee Chris Kavanagh but admitted that he had let his teammates down. There is also reaction from goalscorer Brennan Johnson and player of the match Micky van de Ven, as well as both managers. Ange Postecoglou hailed his players’ performance, saying that they were a ‘joy to watch’. In contrast, Erik ten Hag conceded that Tottenham were the dominant side and his team were poor in possession. The United manager also avoided questions on whether the club is moving forward under his leadership, saying that 'it is not the time to talk about progression after such a defeat'. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Chelsea fan Gary Mantle and Burnley fan Jack Toner to discuss all the latest at their clubs and relevant Fantasy assets ahead of the GW30 meeting at Stamford Bridge. For Chelsea one step forward seems to often be followed by one step back (or visa versa) under Mauricio Pochettino. What's the current fan sentiment towards the former Tottenham boss? Plus, selection dilemmas and best Fantasy assets. Many on Wildcard will be tempted by having 3 Chelsea assets. Cole Palmer would one, but can Mal Gusto be relied upon long-term as a second choice? The Manchester United manager has been under increased scrutiny since the minority investment from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has taken over sporting control at Old Trafford. Jon Mackenzie and James Horncastle are here to discuss why Italy’s title race is so open and which teams are involved in the Scudetto challenge. Serie A has had the most diverse group of title winners across the last few seasons. Why is that the case? Why has there been so much change at Napoli? Has Inter underperformed in the league the past few seasons? Is this make or break season for manager Stefano Pioli at Milan? Where are we at right now in the Juventus saga? Dave Jones presents 'Saturday Night Football' alongside Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Lee Hendrie, and they watched Aston Villa beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to move above the hosts and into the top half of the Premier League. Lee described Chelsea’s defending as ‘schoolboy’ whilst Jimmy said their main problem is putting the ball in the back of the net and they need to be calmer in front of goal. The duo also highlighted Ollie Watkins’ performance which was capped by another away goal and the forward produced a standout performance. Mykhaylo Mudryk again failed to impress for Chelsea and missed some key chances, but Hasselbaink defended the forward saying that he needs more time to settle. However, Hendrie feels the Ukrainian should have converted the opportunities he failed to capitalise on. They also discuss Graham Potter’s future, and feel if the negative results continue, the pressure will build. Hendrie thinks the Champions League tie against Real Madrid will be crucial to determine Potter's outcome. Hasselbaink however believes Chelsea’s board should look at Arsenal’s decision to back Mikel Arteta and trust the process as the Gunners are a great example of adopting that approach. There is also reaction from both goal scorers, Ollie Watkins and John McGinn as well as Graham Potter, who felt Chelsea were second best in both boxes despite having more attempts. Unai Emery also gives his views on the result and said that securing European football for next season will be difficult, but they will try to achieve it. Having played 300 games at just 26, we discuss what Kane can do to protect the longevity of his career and wonder what José Mourinho can do to replace the injured striker as the rest of the season unfolds. Also, after some enlightening correspondence from our listeners, we discuss the mental strains placed on modern football managers. Two draws were received very differently this week. The two Mikes take a longer look at the scoreless draw at Anfield (sorry in advance), and then flip to the 1-1 result at the Etihad. They examine a few questions along the way. Can this United team win a title, or even finish in the top four with this approach? Is Daniel Sturridge a problem for LFC? Should expectations be shifting higher for Everton? And of course, the annual wave of "Is Pep a fraud?" narratives. ...
