Newcastle bounce back, Thomas Tuchel has takeoff, and an emotional title win in Brazil

Marcus, Jim and Vish cast their eyes over an all right weekend of football which fortunately threw in a funny named Dutch striker and some goals. Newcastle get the lift they needed with a European Cup triumph, but Bruce is already flying high with all his fan mail. Elsewhere, Tuchel bagged his first win, but can’t hug Werner into goalscoring form, while over at Leeds everyone's included in Papa Bielsa's warm embrace. Especially Kalvin Phillips, though - apparently he’s free to marry both his daughters. It seems this weekend’s Magic of The Cup™️ was all crammed into a cracking game at Old Trafford, with Man United edging out Liverpool thanks to more Bruno Fernandes wizardry. Away from the FA Cup, Newcastle maintained their alarming slide down the table and Fenerbahçe are seemingly crowdfunding Mesut Özil’s wages, because that’s just the world we live in now… Search ‘Football Ramble’ on social media to find us, and email us here: [email protected]. ***Please take the time to rate and review us on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your pods. The Preview Show: Euro 2020 happens after all, Newcastle’s takeover meets resistance and David Moyes keeps busy

In which we learn that David Moyes has been keeping busy delivering shopping to the elderly. He’s really enjoying it too! Could this eventually lead to him retiring early and becoming a village handyman? Stranger things have happened. Over at UEFA HQ they’ve made a decision about how the various domestic leagues will decide on qualification for European competition… and it’s that they’ll decide it themselves, on merit. Put more simply, they’ve said “you sort it out”. As well as all this the Saudi takeover of Newcastle United edges closer, but company man Richard Keys has some misgivings, and as ever they are purely and wholly honourable. We also hear a suggestion to help the NHS and open up the Time Tunnel, where we revisit Tim Sherwood’s lowest point. Keegan's Entertainers | #ThrowbackThursday | Planet #FPL

On this Thursday Throwback Suj & James look back at a time when Kevin Keegan took over at Newcastle United & took them from the brink of relegation to Division 3 to The Premier League's great entertainers & a 12 point lead at the summit inside 4 years. How did they get there so quickly & how did it fall apart just as quickly. Lots of nostalgia as the lads reminisce about one of the Premier League's most fondly remembered teams & those Keegan years on Tyneside. ________________________________ Web: www.planetfpl.com Twitter: @PlanetFPLPod (James) / @sujanshah (Suj) Facebook: www.facebook.com/PlanetFPL Instagram: @planetfpl You Tube: www.youtube.com/planetfpl Learn more about your ad choices. Newcastle's New Ownership

The Public Investment Fund of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has nearly completed its purchase of Newcastle United Football Club. We talk about what this means. Another ownership group in the Premier League driven not by a need to make profits but by a drive for soft power, sportwashing a reputation sullied by war crimes, murder and oppression. It’s a furious old man special! We weren’t intending to do a furious old man special but Sam Allardyce and Graeme Souness provided jibes at Rafa Benitez and Paul Pogba and who are we to pass them up? World Cup style camps. That’s the phrase that’s all the rage at the moment. The Premier League are continuing to look at ways to finish the season and good on them. Will we have a bizarre little behind-closed-doors conclusion to the season this summer? We just don’t know. In other news it looks like Newcastle United actually have a strong chance of winning the FA Cup this season, Arsenal have been engaging in a spot of espionage and Graeme Souness is still really angry about everything about Paul Pogba. 40 - VAR Carnage At Stamford Bridge

Robbie Mustoe and Robbie Earle dissect a crazy game at Stamford Bridge that saw Chelsea on the wrong side of several VAR decisions (00:45). And also recap the big moments from the weekend; Liverpool beat Norwich (18:30), Son's late winner against Aston Villa (24:45) and Arteta's attackers thrash Newcastle United (30:15).

Tottenham Planting a Trillion Trees

Leicester and Chelsea tie. Bournemouth over Villa. Sheffield over Palace. Liverpool over Southampton. Newcastle and Norwich tie. Everton comeback against Watford. United and Wolves in a scoreless draw. Tottenham slaying City. Burnley and Arse in an unwatchable 0-0 tie. Bergwijn! FA Cup schtuff. DFB Pokal. GIO REYNA GOLAZO. This is a weak ass effort for this write-up. Does anyone even read it anyway?

Jules & Andy: What next for Olivier Giroud, Newcastle's takeover rumours return, and office football chat

With February here, we’re taking a look at some of the fallout from a fairly lively January transfer window on today's episode of Jules & Andy! We begin with marooned striker Olivier Giroud who, after touted moves both within the Premier League and overseas never flourished, he remains stuck in the stands at Chelsea. We discuss where it's gone wrong for the Frenchman and how he may be able to squeeze himself into Frank Lampard's squad. We then take a look at the suspiciously timely rumours of a takeover at Newcastle United and run the rule over their own new loan signings. There's all of that, plus a load of correspondence – including a dramatic turn in the "Shrews" vs "Shrows"-bury debate. The Preview Show: Frank Lampard’s Chelsea Jr host West Ham, Man City visit the toon, and Jamie Vardy continues to defy all logic

It’s Friday! Football tomorrow! Yes! We look ahead to some of it, as is tradition, casting glances towards Chelsea taking on West Ham, Everton probably getting banged by Jamie “I hate the gym” Vardy and Leicester City, while Pep Guardiola takes his Man City team up to the Brucey Bowl to try and win a battle of managerial wits at Newcastle. David Moyes makes an appearance - it’s that time of year after all - while Keisuke Honda makes an interesting career decision and Watford decide to keep their inexplicable elk badge after all. The Ramble: Jubilation for Norwich, Chelsea’s youngsters impress, and Arsenal revert to type

In Daniel Farke’s voice: “A pleasing weekend of football in which many of the topics were covered, such as Norwich City’s win over Manchester City which was perhaps not expected, Liverpool asserting their sporting superiority over the struggling Newcastle United and Arsenal showing much quality in the first half of their game with Watford and then perhaps letting themselves down in the second. There is also much discussion of the parting of the Red Sea, which is slightly off of the topics, there is some controversy regarding the designated email section of the podcast and some perhaps unnecessary discussion of dog boobs.” Search ‘Football Ramble’ on social media to find us, and email us here: [email protected] ***Please take the time to rate and review us on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your pods. Puskas Award Complaints and Early Season Pondering

Did Neves just score an early favorite Puskas nominee against Manchester United in a devastating fashion? He just may have. What a goal. In the end, a tie in the Molineaux is improvement over last year and Manchester United has been fantastic in stretches of the early season. They could have easily won that game and they should have (cough::Pogba PK::cough). We dance around the Premier League beginnings, show love to Sheffield United and Norwich City (TEEEEEEMU), talk about how much Newcastle might suck, then jump into La Liga and Champions League and have a good time doing it. Then the rants get weird about the Puskas. Jimmy's daughter also makes her first appearance on the podcast at 4 weeks old.

Pie and Smash: Action from the Premier League Asia Trophy, the International Champions Cup and AFCON

With so many of the game’s biggest prizes being played at once it’s a great time to be a football fan, especially if you’re of a Geordie persuasion. Steve Bruce’s mere presence was enough to get his Newcastle United revolution under ho-way with a seismic victory over West Ham. Alongside all this there’s embarrassment and contrition from Kilmarnock, a Burnley fan with a level of commitment that’d probably be better used elsewhere and a guest appearance from Bernie Sanders. Golden Booty: Chelsea are on top in Europe, Aston Villa are back in the Premier League and the Champions League is on the horizon

What a magical night in Baku! Goals! Empty seats! An atmosphere! Of sorts! Chelsea give Arsenal a gubbing to win the Europa League and make Maurizio Sarri’s season look pretty good indeed, as Eden Hazard and his turbo-booty give Arsenal another miserable night to forget. After picking over this we take the time to congratulate Aston Villa on their promotion, rejoice at the prospect of a second season of Marcelo Bielsa and wonder if there could be a place for Alan Pardew to pick up where he left off in the sheikh-based Newcastle United revolution. I heart Hearts: Man City secure the quadruple, Kompany bows out and Wolves make Europe

As the dust and ticker tape settles on the domestic season it’s Man City that have won it all. A comprehensive gubbing of Watford leaves us equal parts impressed and terrified for the future, though it turns out that Newcastle United have also won some silverware this season, if you’re a bit sloppy with the details, which clearly we are. Peering around the rest of the game we discover that the guy with the bell is no longer the worst Portsmouth fan, that Tony Pulis’ usefulness has come to an end at Middlesbrough and that Cardiff Metropolitan University FC are a name to look out for in Europe next season.
